Let me tell you something. It's a small place in a small neighborhood in Queens. No, it is not chic or sophisticated and it doesn't look like the beautiful fancy salons in the city. To be quite honest, the variety is moderate at best in terms of color. However...for the quality and the price...absolutely nothing beats it. NO ONE does better nails than Judy. Silk wrap, acrylic, SNS, tips...that woman has blessed hands and her shape? Knocks all those professional $200+ manicures out the ballpark. It's gorgeous and she hits the nail on the head every time. There's no one I trust to do my nails other than her. She can also do fantastic nails with rapid speed. What I love about Judy's is the family like environment there as well. The moment you walk in it's like a reunion. She and her employees are always so genuinely happy to see you. I'm astounded that with the number of customers they get on a weekly basis they still remember every detail about you--whatever you tell they'll remember. I love the relationship I enjoy with everyone at Judy's. Their pedicures are also awesome. This is my favorite story to tell BUT last summer my toe got hit by a heavy hotel door and THE ENTIRE NAIL came off. There was literally nothing there. One of the nail technicians (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten!) blew my mind when she was able to PAINT ON AN ENTIRE FAKE NAIL WITH JUST ESSIE NAIL POLISH. Like...what?!?!? AND that nail polish somehow last a whole six weeks. It didn't even CHIP. No one ever knew I was missing a whole toe nail. I love this place and the people. I went in and picked a color the lady basically told me no because my nails are "too small, this color is better" it wasn't that much different so I said sure. But i was thrown off by that. Then as they did my toes they also worked on my hands, not so relaxing PLUS it was empty so i don't understand the rush. The lady left my big toe nail with a large glop, i made a comment and it was ignored. Either way I would have had to pay for a nail to get fixed (their policy). When doing my nails i also mentioned that i saw bubbles on one of my finger nails and she said it will go away when it dries up... it didn't. Lastly my nails didn't last at all, Gel is supposed to last atleast two weeks. She left a large gap on the top so my nails looked like they have grown long and then chipped away at the bottom within less than a week. read more

I went to get my nails done there was no one there, another customer went in to get a wax the lady stopped what she was doing to go attend her instead of finishing up my nails. Then she rushed through my nails because someone else came in. My nails came out extremely sloppy, she messed up on three nails with the nail polish, the shaping of the nails were off, and she didn't want to fixed the nail polish. I kept insisting and she fixed one. By the time she was finished my nails looked like I had them on for a week already. By the third day they were already chipping. One of the thumbs she did something weird and the nail had bumps all over it. Also it wasn't even the design I showed her, she made a comment of I didn't them differently and said oh well. I'm in Queens for work, Im from the West Coast. I found Lee's Nails on Yelp, they had great reviews and prices. It was in walking distance from my Airbnb and off I went. I was greeted with half head nod in my direction, fine. I sit down in a broken massage chair for my pedicure. Mind you there are working chairs to the left and right of me that are empty, they dont move me. Fine, I have to be a work soon let's get this over with. Fast forward the pedicure was fine(I think I got the new girl). The manicure a complete disaster, I allow her to half do my nails as far as prepping, filing etc. The paint job though..............she laid the nail polish on so thick. I thought this is never going to dry before I leave. They dry enough for me to leave and head to work, by the time they completely dry it looked like I had rocks under the polish is was so bumpy from air bubbles it looked HORRIBLE! I had to go back to Lee's Nails after work, they treated me as if I wronged them and then they had the SAME girl redo my nails????? I believe that they are prejudice and have preconceived notions of people of different races. I noticed that there was major tension between the Asian owner and the three Latinas that work there. I am a person of color and the only person of color that walked in the door both times that I was there. I definitely was treated different and as if I didn't have any money when I paid I tipped 23% on my card, my total was $23. Then gave the woman that did my nails her tip in cash, just in case she didn't get her tip or if she had to share tips, I wanted to put the money in her hand. I saw owner(Ann) looking at the receipt and shook her head, then when she saw me looking at her she gave me a fake smile. I am so over this place!! The crazy thing is they don't know I am actually here on business with nine other people, majority of them were going to go over there and get their nails done. We are far from broke, lol! This is the BEST nail salon! It's not your fancy spa salon but this place is awesome! All the nail techs do amazing jobs! They do a good job at shaping nails and removing cuticles. Their prices are soooo reasonable! I got a shellac manicure for $20! Yes $20! After spending + $40 in the city for shellac this price blew my mind! And the best part they don't charge to remove shellac like other places $8! And they use the CND approved way of removal. Sorry ladies but cotton balls wrapped in aluminum foil isn't the approved way. Other places do it the wrong way and charge you for it! My favorite nail technician from Charming Nails in Clinton Hill bought this salon in September! I've been here three times since she reopened New Sunny Nails as New Sunny Judy Nails. Judy is great! She does gel, designs, acrylic and is so nice! She gives great massages, too. I've been seeing her for my nails since 2009--6 years! The pricing here is standard for a small shop in Bushwick/Ridgewood border. $6 manicure, $20 gel manicure, $12 pedicure. I think they are way under charging for the service you get! I also know if Judy inches up the price it will be to improve the looks of the shop she bought from the previous owner and expand the services offered. Judy brought in all the best Essie and OPI colors brand new when she took over. Tons of gel colors and glitter, which I love. I love supporting small women of color owned businesses and will be a devoted follower of Judy. It's worth the 20 minute drive from home in Crown Heights. Yesterday went to Lee's for the first time. Did a walk in as soon as they opened, and they filled up quickly business-wise so I was thankful I was seen right away. You can't beat $15 for a Spa Manicure! I cannot remember the name of the person who did my nails (an older woman who initiated conversation with me, asked for my name, and was very pleasant and easy to converse with). She also gave me an impromptu shoulder massage while waiting for the wax to dry on my hands (part of the Spa Manicure is having your entire hands dipped in sweet-smelling wax and then placed in heated mittens---leading to very soft skin). Based on the free 5 minute shoulder massage alone, I'm considering paying just for a longer massage during my next visit---she was THAT good. The manicure was not rushed in any way, and she suggested the perfect color for my nails as well---Very Cranberry by Essie. The only thing that threw me a bit was that my fingers were not soaked in warm water before my cuticles were cut to soften them...never seen that before, but maybe it's not always needed? Right infront of me she opened up clean manicure tools, which I appreciated since cleanliness of a salon is always in the forefront of my mind. It was great how I noticed ALL of the manicurists talking to their clients instead of just each other----very friendly place, very warm, and very personable. Will definitely be returning for a Spa Pedicure in the next two weeks---and maybe a massage too! read more

I don't go in for a manicure or a pedicure on a regular basis. However, every once in a while, my feet resemble a mess. Luckily for me, this nail salon isn't too far from my apartment. It's five dollars cheaper during the week, Monday through Thursday than on the weekends for your basic medi and pedi. What the place lacks in atmosphere they make up for it with the staff. They're majorly nice. The woman who did my toes last time wouldn't let me leave unless the polish was applied perfectly. This is my to-go place in this neighborhood. No, staff isn't what I would complain about. It's the other female customers. I was so shocked. The second time I used this place, most of the customers were just outright mean. First of all, these ladies forget that they're using a basic nail salon in Ridgewood, not in Beverly Hills. Second, if you're in a hurry, then why did you show up to a nail salon late Friday afternoon? Don't you know on payday, many hit the salons? Duh! Seriously, take your prescribed chill pill, or whatever your psych doc recommended. Otherwise sip your Nuvo, or whatever tacky drink you're hitting at the moment. Then relax, and come back on a day when you're not so stressed. It's not the end of the world. This is why many guys don't like "high maintenance women." Third...no matter how much you try to look pretty, remember this. Beauty does not only come from the outside, but from the inside as well. Which means your bitchy attitude towards the staff makes you look even older and uglier than before. Sex and The City was a fantasy - but in real life, your attitude isn't cute. I've been coming here for fourteen years and have not really gone anywhere else since. I like that no matter what, it is pretty much always the same staff since I they opened. They have remodeled a handful of times since then, but they keep everything in tip top shape. If you want consistency and kindness, you come here, because the prices can't be beat, who can really beat a $6.00 manicure!? The French manicure I got recently lasted me a week and a day before it started to chip. I work a lot with my hands, so I'm actually surprised it lasted that long. This is a Korean run business. It's sad and funny how some of the older women that have been coming here for years assume they are Chinese. Lee and Annie (Business Partners) are a great team. Beware, Lee is the original Owner since opening and it is highly difficult to get your nails done by her. She does a phenomenal job. Getting a pedicure by her is out of the question. Maybe if you asked 25 years ago, she would of shrugged her shoulders and said 'let's go' but she is older now and doesn't really to be dealing with our feet. Sometimes there's a wait but if you make an appointment they're mostly good about keeping to your time. Just got home from here for a full leg wax and I couldn't wait to give them a good review. What they lack in extravagant decor they make up for in service. When I went in they already had a full house but the manager lady took me in right away. She was very nice and diligent. After waxing the area, she went over it with a magnifying glass and tweezers to get all the little hairs out. Then she rubbed oil and baby powder over the area. The full leg wax was only $28! That's a bargain from what I saw on there salon websites. Definitely will come back to try their pedi and mani specials mon-thurs for $14.99. read more

I've been going here to get my nails done for over a year now, so looks like it's time for a review :) I've always been able to come here and receive a well- priced mani and pedi and they always do a great job. The owner and his wife are usually always there to make sure all customers are happy. To the people complaining about wait time... Call ahead to schedule an appointment if you are going during prime time (weekends and evenings). It's a business and they get busy. It's your job to make sure you actually have the time for service or not. I've hardly had an issue with this. P.s. Make sure to tip your nail techs!!! The prices are cheap so show your appreciation! This is probably the ideal spot to go if you live along the Bushwick/Ridgewood border. No frills, just good service -- all you really need for a good, comfortable mani-pedi experience. I just got my first gel manicure there and I'm really happy with it. I just cleaned my entire house and packed for vacation, but it still hasn't chipped. The staff seemed very nice and friendly. There is actually a sign that says "quality comes first" and asks customers to notify workers if they are in a rush. I think that's pretty considerate. read more

Usually this place is pretty good, i've been going for years, and when i've have issues from the early days of gel mani's they would fix them. I've since moved away and haven't been as frequently, but one day I decided I needed to go to a reliable place since my new area is pretty bad. Unfortunately I got one of the worst finishes from them i've ever had. my gel nails started to break within two days. My toe polish chipped within four days! Both of these usually last up to two weeks w the toenails often lasting a lot longer even. It was really unfortunate, I had to get a new mani within a WEEK! that's really really terrible for gel mani's, and unfortunate. I'm not going out of my way for that again. I did my nails for New Years Eve last year & I loved them. I even showed her a picture of the pointed almond shape tip that I wanted. She literally matched the picture. She was very nice I believe I had the main lady in charge. I felt really comfortable with her and the way it came out. How refreshing to finally find a truly friendly nail salon on Metropolitan Ave. I walked in without an appointment for a manicure/pedicure and was seen by Maricella. She was quiet but very friendly and accommodating. She did a great job and it was the cleanest French manicure I've had in a long time. The owner was very sweet, I didn't catch her name but she did ask mine and made sure she used it as we spoke. You can tell that she respects her employees as well. If you're looking for a personal touch, this is the place. Are you tired of snide attitudes from other salons that don't deliver the quality they should?
