Turned me away during open hours with an appointment I booked on ClassPass. Refused to refund me

I first visited this salon a few weeks ago for a mani & pedi. I wasn't thrilled with the service then because the tech left streaks, and my nails weren't shaped evenly. I decided to give it a second try with a different tech this week to see if my experience would improve. Not at all! The tech was inexperienced and lacked customer service skills. She had a hard time removing my gel and cut my cuticles until I bled. She cut my nails without confirming the length and became upset when I asked her if she could fill the streaks. Now I'm POSITIVE that I will not be returning. read more

Today I got a fill for $78!!! The worst manicure I've ever gotten. I get fills every two weeks back at home (I am visiting and needed a quick fix) so very familiar with how they work. First off, it took over 1.5 hours and took over an hour to just file and remove the gel (mind you it was painful--repeatedly ran the drill over my skin cutting it; pushed my cuticles way deeper than needed scrapping skin; the shape was jagged and not smooth; the nail shapes didn't match each other). I also had cuticles/skin tags on the edge of my nails as you can in the pic that I had to cut off myself at home. I also had to reshape when I got home. Icing on the cake--the person demanded a higher gratuity. Never had someone ask me for more tip after that experience anddddd overcharging in the first place (again, $78?!!!). One day I was Downtown Brooklyn on Lawrence Street and wanted to get a Pedicure during my lunch break. Walking into a specific nail salon and being told that the wait would be incredibly long, I decided to check for alternate places on Yelp. The Nail Gallery popped up and immediately sold me on the idea of going there because the pictures looked lovely. Calling to book an appointment w/ staff over the phone for the same day took about 5 minutes to complete and was much appreciated. After work, I headed there via the G train and Nail Gallery is a few minutes walk from the train station. Nail Gallery is as pristine as it looks in its pictures. The waiting area and overall salon has comfortable cushioned seats. Relaxing in a soft chair from the beginning of the process (waitng area), during the actual services (Manicure, Pedicure, Massages, etc) and at the end while drying your nails adds to the already heavenly experience. Nail Gallery is extremely tidy/organized with a white/gray color scheme in the manicure section and different color seating in the pedicure section. There are various colors to choose from and they are located along the front wall across from the receptionist desk. It was great to see polishes sectioned in different groups based on gel vs. regular polish, basic/neutral polish vs. brighter colored polishes, etc. Clearly seeing all of the options as they were set up in an organized manner helped me to select one quickly. Pedicurist Bella was friendly, courteous, kind, etc. She was thorough and gentle as she gave me my pedicure. My feel felt like they were floating on air once it was done and I had to walk over to the drying machines. Owner Shooki walked around the establishment, engaged in conversation w/customers and took time to speak w / me for a few minutes. The staff's tone, demeanor etc. add to the already calming atmosphere. When I Check-In on Yelp as a 1st time customer, I received a 10% discount. In addition, Nail Gallery gives first time customers a gift which is a piece of jewelry selected from their jewelry section on a left side wall. I didn't get the name of my nail tech. She was meticulous and did a good job on my SNS powder nails but she was very rough on my cuticles. My big toe is still hurting and red because she pushed the cuticles too hard with the metal tools. It stung a lot when she was putting on the polish. She also plucked the hang nail on my thumb and the skin is exposed and raw. She didn't notice it until she was buffing and filing my nails and saw the abrasion. She accidentally buffed over it and I flinched. I feel like nail techs usually "cut" the cuticles off gently instead of plucking them with the metal tool. The place looked very bright and clean and initially I don't mind paying a little more. but my nail tech used the metal cuticle tool to stir the SNS powder after she used it on me. I've been client of this place for 3 years. Always happy but what I've got today is a disaster. I mentioned the lady who did my pedi (her name was Yalanda, or something like that) I don't like she didn't closed the color of the edges of my nails. She said she doesn't see it. So I showed her 7 of 10 my toes like that and she said "oh, it's only one". She didn't even offer to fix it. I have nail polish on my toes but not on the nails. The only thing she did was playing stupid and charged me. I like place because it's clean, but I'll not leave the place next time without fixing until my nails will be perfect, and I'm sorry but no tip ‍ if you treat client like that you don't deserve even one penny. read more

I never leave bad Yelp reviews but this was truly the worst manicure I've ever received. I went in for Chromes and not only did it take over an hour to do but it looks awful and I have to go to a new salon this week to have fixed. Color all over my cuticles and fingers, patchy top coat, black undercoat poking through, the WRONG color from what I chose, to quote my husband when I got home "it looks like you did it yourself." I get powder nails every 6 weeks like clockwork. This time, I skipped one session and came into this salon for the first time with short, sturdy nails. After giving me the most condescending attitude throughout the manicure and commenting to the other tech about my cuticles, my nail tech was extremely proud of her work and made sure I knew it. She had shaped my short (barely there) nails very nicely and the result of the work was cute. Pros: - the salon is clean and modern - they hand-file rather than using a dremel so you keep more of your nail. - the manicure work is beautiful Cons: - their powder doesn't last -extreme attitude. However, I noticed the first chip on my thumb two days later. I wasn't using my hands for any real work, not even washing dishes. By the third day, half of my thumb's polish had chipped off and three other nails had minor chips from normal activities. This never happened to me before and I was horrified. Powder nails grow out, they don't break, in my experience. My previous salon used to give me nails that could handle anything. So I can only assume that this did not work out because the work wasn't as good. I agree with one of the other reviewers who had a similar experience with their powder manicure: They should not offer a service they cannot do well. read more

I had an amazing experience with Kim at the salon. I got the Green Tea Spa pedicure and a manicure. Kim was so attentive and detailed through the whole process. I went in with a wrist brace and injured knee and she made sure I was comfortable the entire time I was there. I really appreciated that. My nail and feet look amazing! She really put the work it to slough off all the dead skin on my feet. Her foot and leg massage felt so great! I can't recommend it enough. Can't wait to go back and try the Blueberry Spa Pedicure. I'm VERY picky with my nails and I was ready to stop using SNS and try gel again I walked in after work at around 5:20 on a Tuesday they took me right away. Sunny listened to exactly what I wanted. It's been 2 weeks and my gel manicure still looks great! It is a little pricey-er but I always say you get what you pay for! I found my new nail home. I like this place usually but last time I got a manicure here, I left with my nails looking like they'd been growing out for two weeks, so many hang nails and dirt under my nails still. I make jewlery so I'm definitely rough on my hands so I know they're in bad shape, but I asked a few times for the hang nails and dirt to be addressed and it never was. There was so much space on my nail that was unpainted. I was told I couldn't have three coats because it would peel and then both people on me each side of me got three coats. Now I understand the mixed reviews. After sifting through many mixed reviews of people who either loved or hated this place, I decided to visit for myself. Upon first encounter, this salon is BEAUTIFUL! I needed to get a mani / pedi for a wedding, so I headed in on a Tuesday and the place had about two people inside. After choosing my color I got my pedicure done by a sweet woman, Sunny. She did a nice job, SUPER quick, and the massage wasn't good, but nonetheless- I was happy. For my manicure I decided to go ahead and get SNS (dip) French manicure because I knew it stayed longer. I also chose a design which she informed me would cost + $5. She got started and I realized what a difficult task I had put her up to. SNS French manicure is extremely hard to do and requires mostly eye-balling it on the part of the manicurist to see if it is correct. I watched her affect change throughout the manicure. It seemed she suddenly got hurried, I noticed my nails starting to look really bad and the French manicure was terribly crooked. She went to place the design and was in such a hurry we went back and forth for 10 minutes trying to agree upon the right placement. I started to become frustrated because I felt like she wasn't listening and taking the time to get my very expensive manicure right. There were two big cherry's on top. 1. Every manicure comes with a massage, I read it here. She skipped mine even after I asked. She instead told me that my manicure didn't come with it. Of course it does, how does a $25 manicure come with it and a $45 manicure doesn't? 2. Upon checkout I reminded her that I could check in on yelp for a discount and she said, 'only with a review! You can write it and use it next time' - but I proceeded to check-in and there was the coupon- clear as day. Kind of confused By my experience, but definitely left with a bad taste in my mouth. I so badly want to love this place and let me say this first. The staff here is absolutely wonderful, especially the owner. And that's probably why I keep coming back and why I'm giving them 4 stars. But I am a bit disappointed, I went once for gel nails with a design and they never mentioned the nail design would be extra so I paid $70 for a few lines on my nails. It looked great but I would have liked that communicated (maybe this is my bad), because for $70 I could have gotten a pedicure too (lol). I also just went for a gel mani and less than a week it chipped, which has never happened to me. Overall this place is super expensive but it's clean, the staff is amazing and sweet and they have a lot of colors available for your nails. *** just an update I was really mostly upset about not being told about the extra charge and wanted to make note of that for future customers. I called ahead before walking in to ensure that they would have time/ ability to do a dipping powder manicure. I get my nails done every 4-5 weeks, but had been traveling and figured New York's services would be up to par with what I've gotten elsewhere. My nail tech kept getting up to help other customers in the middle of my service.. and overall I had 3 nail techs during my 2 hour time there. I've never had my service take that long, so it started to make me think that maybe they didn't know what they were doing. (Half of that window was spent removing my polish) I had broken 2 nails and needed tips in order to match the length of my other nails, but also noticed that this wasn't a typical tip process (they use cloth that hardens) - even though I had them cut my nails down, I didn't realize that each "extension" would be an additional $10/ea?! I've attached a picture, to show just how short and unshaped they are (see pinky)... deeply disappointed. When I brought up how surprising the price was, I was told, "well we didn't charge to remove your polish," to which I replied, "well I sure hope not!" I still tipped, of course.. but I would not come back here nor recommend to anyone. read more

My first time I came in as a walk in and was seen within 10 minutes- it wasn't too crowded, so I was lucky. But I made it a habit to make an appointment, and I was always seen on my appointment time or within 5 minutes of my arrival. I can only comment on the basic pedicure, which lasts, and love that couple of minutes of foot massage. My gel manicure has lasted 3 weeks with no chips. I recently came here to get my nails done and it's such a lovely salon - beautiful and super clean inside. what really makes this place stand out is their attention to detail - for example, the chairs have hooks on the side to hang your bag from, and they have charging outlets between the stations for you to charge your phone. First time here and I regret it. I'm used to going to Blue Bell Nail Nail Spa just 20 minutes away. I'm literally sitting in the pedicure chair right now writing this review. When shaping my nails, she did not ask and automatically assume- I let it go. Then when cutting the extra skin , I felt nothing as if she was not cutting anything. I had to ask her to do it four times! When filing my nail she kept hitting my other toes leaving a bruising sensation. When she put the warm towel she did not let it cool and put it directly on me. I was initially going to get a massage but even that may be half-done. I'm a nurse and i'm literally on my feet all day. As the new nail salon in Greenpoint, I couldn't wait to check this place out. For me to give this place the best review possible, I decided to check it out on an Monday (*we all know weekends at any salon are crazy and kryptonite to book). I wandered in first customer of the day, sometime after 11 am and four staff buzzed around me trying to make me comfortable and answer my questions. One of the manicurists recommended a new brand of polish that lasts up to two weeks (would you believe Not a gel*). At this point, as I sat down at the first cubicle and one of them got started on my nails and the other told me, "I give you a massage." I thought as my lids closed and the knots uncurled in my shoulders that I had found my new haven. No other customer arrived, you could hear a pin drop. After the first ten minutes of the massage, she said "your muscles in your shoulder are so tight, we'd better do 15 minutes" so she reset the alarm for 15 minutes later all the while the manicurist is flying by with doing my manicure. And as I dipped into a state of deep relaxation, it occurred to me so I asked, "How much?" So as the manager sailed in ironically at the exact moment setting down her bag at the counter, she stated, "Total of $38." Well, a little pricier than I anticipated, but my shoulders and back of neck had been bothering me for a while so I thought, why not? So they proceeded to put me in a massage chair, working on my shoulder knots and then I hear the same questions slightly personal as you would in a hair salon (What do you do for a living? Do you have kids? How old are you?) put to me to a newly arrived customer. They also informed her it was $5 extra to use the jets for her pedicure. Keep in mind, none of the pricing is on the wall, its only on a lamented card on the counter as you settle up prior to leaving. So as the manager starts tapping on the screen, the massage $38.00 is listed as separate from the manicure $15.00 and I was taken a back. I said, "I was told the total was $38.00." and she gives me a hard appraising look, "That's just for the massage." OKay. Upon paying, the masseuse and the manager start speaking fluently in their language prompting the latter to directly ask me, "Did you TIP them?" I couldn't get over it. I had only brought a certain amount, not anticipating how pricey they were, nor how as they get you relaxed is when they administer other services without making it clear about what is included and what is not included. Complete bait and switch ending with the gall of demanding a tip for both manicurist and masseuse when NONE of her prices is laid out for customers to view. Yes, the massage was amazing five stars but they over-charge. I think I will stick with Wisdom Spa nearby because they are affordable and never bait and switch on you. They offer massages while treating you to manicures without secretly running up a tab they assume you know about. No, because each nail spa is different. I was forced to TIP her because she did this IN FRONT of her. No tact. read more

On Tuesday I made an appointment to have a manicure/pedicure at the Nail Gallery. Kim met me, when I walked in, and showed me to the massage chair for my pedicure. The salon is very bright and very clean which gave me a very good feeling right from the start. I'm 78 years old,, and at this age nails very hard to cut. I asked Kim if she could soak my feet in hot water to soften the nails, since cutting them dry, I've always felt being a painful experience. Kim was extremely accommodating. She checked the temperature of the water for my approval, and had me soak my feet. While my feet were soaking, she set up a manicure station, on the arm of the massage chair, for her to be able to begin the manicure while my nails were softening. When she told me that she was Korean, I told her that I have been making Korean scallion pancakes. I also showed her a picture of my organic vegetable garden which definitely impressed her. She knew the vegetables just from their leaves. We spoke about not wasting any part of the vegetables. When she saw the garlic in my garden, she explained that the leaves are also edible, and to just cut them very finely. Thus, I had a wonderful manicure and pedicure, as well as a delightful conversation with Kim, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. One more thing I must mention is how peacefully quiet the atmosphere is in the Nail Gallery. Nowadays, it is hard to escape the inescapable blasting of music everywhere one goes. Taking care of our nails and body is very important, but, giving our brains some rest and relaxation from all the noise pollution around us is just as important. read more

I had been to the Nail Gallery once or twice when I lived in the neighborhood and I remember the nail techs were good, so I made an appointment for a gel mani and pedi. The salon's owner greeted me and helped me pick out a good pinky nude for my mani and set me up in a spa chair. A nail tech named Kim did my pedi and Jay did my mani. They were both so sweet and kind, on top of making my nails look extraordinary. They both shaped my nails after I had foolishly clipped them super short a few days ago, and Jay really took her time to save my cuticles and layer my gel color so it would look great. I had such a great time chatting with them both, and they told me that clients have been respectful regarding the salon's COVID policies--which is great to hear. So I went yesterday to get a powder gel because my regular place was closed. I had already soaked off the previous set but had a bit left who the lady didn't bother to clean up, she also didn't clean my cuticles at all so the edges are wonky. I do powder gel myself if I don't have time so am very familiar with the process. I told her to seal my nails before final shaping and she said she did but I know she didn't use the right bottle.
