Absolutely horrible. I had called them over 12 different times waiting for my check had sent them a different routing and account number to send to a different bank over three different times they never once updated it. My dog was supposed to get surgery and has been sitting here suffering with a huge abscess on his neck because they couldn't be capable of doing their job. I thought my consultant, Erik Falk, did a great job handling my return. I was surprised, after having done my own taxes these past 40 years, how quickly he got it done. I suppose since I had all the paperwork ready at our final, in person review his expertise allowed him to execute quickly. So we dont have 5 stars here because the HR Block 'process' is far less than clear, especially for a noob like me. There are no directions on how to submit paperwork (aside from the very dumb suggestion that I submit everything thru my smartphone on their app - i mean, who keeps their important financial info on their phone?) I arrived at my first appt with everything on a USB stick, and they said 'no can do' (this was a 90min round trip drive for me). Erik gave me his email address to send to. After doing that, at my second in-person appt he had it done in 45 mins. I thought the fee was reasonable, and was glad to have a pro handle my return given all the complexities i had this year (selling house, some stock and bond sales, etc). The front staff was great. The office charming and inviting. Easy local street parking. They submit the return, and give you the envelope and voucher to mail in payment. I thought, for $400, they could've put a stamp on it :) If my taxes get complicated again, I'd come back here. read more

Had the worst experience with Chris H. We were treated rudely and he would not give us five minutes to explain why the cost of our tax preparation went up $160 from last year. He told us to go some place else. It is disturbing that someone/anyone who operates a business can get away with such disrespect. Never again. read more

I am 77 and I was having difficulty getting to an HRBlock in Portland, so I had a friend take it in to an office in Astoria. He gave all my paperwork to Christi. She said she could do it. Towards the end of the year she still hadn't completed the work. I called and she said it was fine. She could delay it until the end of January. But my Pers said that was not true and she was suppose to get the taxes in by the first of the year. They then deducted over $200 from my Pers check, each month, for the entire year of 2021. Every time I call Cristi to talk to her about all of this, she doesn't return my calls. Her negligence has cost me over $2000. It's an outrage. She still hasn't mailed my Oregon taxes in. I can't believe this office is getting by with this!!!!! I wish I had the number of a general manager...! read more

Made an appointment to have tax prep done for a small business for which I am bookkeeper. I was very clear while making the appointment that this would be tax preparation for a business. I dropped off the materials they needed and was told by the agent that she was expecting to be doing personal tax prep, and that the manager was the only one authorized to work on business tax. Over the next 2 months I repeatedly asked for the manager to call me with an update. Neither he, nor anyone else ever did. Today I called several times, getting the message (rather rudely stated) that their phone does not accept messages, so don't even try leaving one. When someone finally picked up several tries later, I told him to discontinue any work done on our taxes, and told him the name of the business. He simply said, "Okay, thank you". I asked him to repeat the name of the business back to me, and he could not. I will never do business with Astoria's H&R Block again, nor will I recommend them in any way. read more

STAY AWAY! STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AS YOU CAN!!! I would give this place a negative star review if I could. Took my tax papers to them way ahead of schedule. They told me that it should be ready in time. They then lost my papers and I had to scramble to find replacement documents. They never did find my sensitive documents. They then called my wife saying the tax return is ready to pick up ON APRIL 15 WHILE WE ARE AT WORK! They said they would file an extension for us since the return would be late. I go and try to call the next business day and their business listing says the place is closed. I keep trying to call for several weeks not knowing their new hours only to find that there is no one there to answer a phone. After finally getting a hold of someone I find out that they never filed an extension because it was prepared "on time" just not at a time that was convenient for me to file them. They do NOT have clear business hours after 3/15 and they should be able to take calls regardless of day of the week right after tax season. They then blamed me for not filing on time and wanted ME to pay for THEIR MISTAKE of having a late filing because I didn't pick up on time even though I COULD NOT PHYSICALLY MAKE IT TO THEM BECAUSE I WAS AT WORK! Very unprofessional in how they're handling this. Never gonna use them again. I have heard around I am not the only one who's had bad experiences with this branch. So stay away! HORRIBLE. Literally the absolute worst. This Astoria Oregon branch has to have the epitome of the worst customer service I have ever had in my entire life, and that's definitely saying something. DO NOT even bother. Gave them all of my documents and information and was told I would get a call back "next week" but 2 months later and 3 days before the tax deadline, when I finally got someone on the line I was told they'd take my number and "call me back." Absolutely useless waste of my time. Seems like they take on more work then they can handle and have NO communication with you until it's too late to go anywhere else. It's amazing how we give vital information to these people (Chris) and it gets used / or not used properly. I had specific instructions on my W-4 which Chris ignored. When I called and spoke with him he tried to put it off on my employer didn't tell him but how was he doing my paystubs? Must have been a good question because he hung up on me. My husband called this office back to speak to a supervisor and guess what Chris was on the other end and he hung up on my husband also when questioned. I had overtime hours and because my employer didn't want to pay me the over time Chris manipulated my hours to other days as regular time and pay. So thank you Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would NEVER EVER recommend anyone to this office. This office would be better off if it was just an empty space. read more

My consultant (Christie) had a family emergency and did not make it to our appointment. I get family emergency, but I do not get why no one called to reschedule, especially since I drove 30 minutes (one way, an hour round trip) from another state (Washington) for the appointment. I left my materials. Someone other than my chosen consultant did my tax return, and I made a second trip to Astoria to sign the paperwork. That return was in error, costing me more than $500 in taxes I didn't owe. I contacted H&R again, and they prepared an amended return. I made another appointment with a gentleman named Chris to sign the new paperwork, and about 20 minutes into the drive to Astoria thought "don't be a fool, call and confirm the appointment." Chris was not there - he also had a family emergency, and my paperwork was nowhere to be found. Again, no one called to reschedule and no one seemed capable of handling his work load. So, half of the 3rd trip was wasted. They found the paperwork, I made a 4th trip to sign that paperwork and was told amendments took a few weeks to process. I realize that H&R Block is not responsible for the IRS, but they are responsible for giving accurate information. It has been nearly six weeks since I signed the amended return, and no word on status, let alone my refund. I called H&R Block on Wednesday of this week and was told someone would call me by end of business. Not surprising, that simple task seems too difficult for them to handle. It's Friday, and no one has called. I'd love for them to do my taxes, which they have done for years, but I'd be an idiot to go back there. I got burned by this office. Without going into huge details (which my interaction with them would require) I can say that the tax preparer I had to deal with was unethical, dishonest and totally unbusiness-like. I would NEVER return to this office, nor would I recommend any one else give it a try. Sad, because my other experiences with H&R Block in other locations have been very good. read more
