This review is for Francis Soriano. He barely replies to emails, does not do what he says he's going to do when he says he will. He repeatedly lied saying he's sending me returns to approve etc for literal weeks while never actually sending the link until yesterday. & wouldn't reply when I said I didn't receive it for weeks prior. I believe he also lied about sending in an extension for my business return by March 16th which will cost me hundreds if not thousands in penalties. & I did not want nor need an extension- I came in February 20th for a tax appt- so there was plenty of time- no need for an extension. & I had a call With him around March 6th to finalize my numbers. Then- he actually emailed me that he wanted to file an extension for my personal return too! Why? No need. I came in EARLY. He also more than doubled the price of his services from $434 I paid him last year for my personal Return to $1099 this year (with not much of a change in my income from last year). I believe he is fudging the numbers on how much time he spent on my return & taking advantage of me. He also doesn't reply in a timely manner. I texted him at 7am today & he hasn't gotten back to me almost 12 hours later. He said it's normal for him to take 2 days to reply. I went to another location today & they helped me on the spot & answered all my questions Francis can't be bothered to reply to yet charges me like he does communicate. Horrible, stressful service from him. I want a refund. He also didn't even print or send me the vouchers for who I mail my tax checks to & for how much. I have already filed 2 complaints: # 279-859-84 and 27-943-153. On 3/25/26 I brought all documents & my 2025 return & my documents were scanned in. I was to return 4/2/26 at 1:00. At 12:50p I was called to come in at 1:30p. When I got there Ms. Shenker told me she had NOT EVEN STARTED MY RETURN! She said she would call to arrange for a new appointment. She never called. At 11:28p I received a text saying the appointment was for 4/7/26 at 2pm. I called on 4/3/26 to object and spoke to the manage Anna. I also received an email the same day from Ms. Shenker saying that she was missing documents. I was not able to access the what was missing. Anna told me she would do my return & to come in on 4/4/26. However, I came in on 4/5/26 with all the documents. Anna said my 2025 return had not been scanned but she took care of it. The next day Anna gave me the return signed by Ms. Shenker although Anna told me she would do the return. Anna said to send all 1099s which is not true. read more

Absolutely Poor Customer Service I scheduled an appointment with H&R Block on Olympic in DTLA as it's in my neighborhood and offered me great service the year prior. Unfortunately, the gentleman who prepared my 2020 taxes was unavailable so I opted to schedule with another tax professional in the office. I scheduled the appointment over 24 hours prior to the appointment time and arranged time off from work to walk over and get my taxes done. I arrived to the office 15 minutes early and was immediately confronted in a rude tone "You! You have an appointment?" by one of the tax preparers. I told him yes and he asked, "with who?" Again, in a rude tone. I told him my tax prepares name and he says "She's busy, you'll need to come back." I told him it's fine, but I asked kindly "May I use your copy machine to print a few tax forms?" He replies, yet again, in a rude tone "we don't offer printing services here." I didn't want to have a situation with this guy, so I walked to Fedex to print my docs. Printed my documents and returned to the office right at my appointment time. The receptionist checked me in and told me to wait a second. She went to the back and spoke to the same guy who was now sitting in his cubicle. He tells her in a load and rude tone "I don't have time for him" tell him to leave his stuff and someone else will call him. For me, this was the last straw and I told him, in my loud tone, that he didn't have to be an asshole and he could've told me that when I first walked in. I said a few more things to him out of anger. I then apologize to the receptionist and let her know my anger isn't directed towards her, then I left. I don't know where the lady went who was suppose to do my taxes and I don't know what was up with this guys unprofessional attitude. But none of this is the way to handle a customer, especially one with an appointment. Absolutely disrespectful and a waste of my time. My advice to you, do your taxes yourself or find someone else to do it. Just stay clear of this office. read more

STAY AWAY I made an appointment for this morning at 9:00 a.m. I receive a call (AN HOUR BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT) from a gentleman telling me that my appointment needs to be rescheduled because the employee isn't coming to work today. He doesn't apologize and demands to know when I am available later during the day so that I can come in for my "appointment". Actually, the office in Venice and Vermont. This year, a woman Ana P. Ramos charged my tax preparation terrible. As when I calculate, the tax preparation is 57% of tax refund! Can you believe? Whatever the reason she based on, how can she charge me so expensive tax fee like that. I also realized I'm a little crazy because after she estimated the tax fee, I could deny to file tax and leave. One thing is about I'm nervous. My sister also called me crazy. And even last year when I file tax in the office at Olympic and Alvarado, my tax fee is also not cheap, 30% of tax refund! Loved Glenn Edejer! Hate H&R Block! Glenn helped receive my stimulus check in April 2021 and he even gave me an awesome discount. He was so friendly and so helpful. Especially when his system flagged him about a debt on my Emerald Advance account. The thing is I have never had an Emerald card. This was my 1st (and last) time utilizing H&R Block Tax Services. Glenn helped me get more information about this alleged debt and according to Emerald's service rep. I owed them over $500 from an advance I received after filing in 2005. What makes this all outrageous is that I WAS 11 YEARS OLD IN 2005!!! Yeah... the 5th grade. What fifth grader pays taxes? Glenn agreed that this was an absurdity and did his best to take care of it for me. He somehow managed to close the sale that was being stifled by his systems demand for $556. H&R Block threatened to take it out of my return. So here I am all stressed out about my return being garnished when my deposit finally hit my account. My return was in full. I recently had to pull my credit report for a tenant leasing application in May and low and behold, guess what's on my credit report? This FRAUDULENT ass debt now sitting with a collection agency. Why? because H&R Block is shady and just wants money. They refused to resolve this matter on the phone with Glenn because the only way this debt could have possibly occurred is if an H&R Block tax preparer stole my information from my mother's files when she was getting her taxes done with them. Guess when the last time that was? 2005!!! My mother and I spent an hour on the phone being transferred back and forth to 5 different service reps. who all kept asking the same questions and they all ended with "I'm sorry but I'm going to transfer you to the "________" dept because we don't take care of Fraud in this dept. That isn't the weird part though. I expect this bologna business to try and give us the run around. The part that gets me is that someone had been making payments on this debt in the past. Do not ever do your taxes with Josie Martinez. She could be nice when she file your taxes (when you pay her). If you get any troubles after you filed your taxes, she won't be with you. I called her and sent her emails because City of Los Angeles sent me a letter that I have a penalty for non-paid tax. She picked up the phone in the beginning and she promised me to check the letter and call me back. After then, she's been ignoring me. I had to find a different accountant to take care of the matter. You wouldn't want to have this kind of experience, especially when you decide to pay for filing your taxes. read more

Some of you might think it's a waste of money to pay someone to do your taxes, but for me it's worth it for the peace of mind. I've screwed up on taxes before, and trust me - it's not a nice feeling to get a letter in the mail telling you you owe hundreds of dollars months after you thought you had taken care of everything. That's why I decided that going forward, I'm going to just throw some money at the problem and have a professional take care of it. I'd heard some horror stories about other H&R Block locations, how most of the people working were not certified CPAs and didn't seem to know what they were talking about, so I'd always steered clear. But last year I was in a bind and basically just pulled into the first location that had an open appointment. I sure am glad I did because I learned that this is one of the few locations where they do have CPAs working in the office, so that can give you some peace of mind. These folks work on these things year round so chances are your income taxes are a piece of cake for them. This year I met with Crystal Kim, who was super nice and really seemed to know what she was talking about. This spot is kind of in the middle of a random area downtown/near Koreatown, but don't worry - they're totally competent and can communicate with you even if you don't speak Korean! Anyway, she went through my relatively simple taxes in a jiffy and didn't seem rushed at all. I will say the price point is high. I had very basic forms and I ended up paying around $130, and I know that others have tax guys that will do them for $75. But I've been to those guys and I have to say I trust this location more, and it's worth the $60 or so difference. They have an option to take their fee out of your refund, but I think they charge you an extra $30 or so. If you're in the area and need some tax help, I'd definitely recommend these folks! Just know that you'll pay a bit of a premium... figure out if your time and sanity is worth it! read more

This review is for the INCOME TAX COURSE taken the night of 8/14/12 between the hours of 6 to 9 pm. First of all, let me disclose that I've passed the CPA. The reason I'm taking a tax prep course is because my husband expects me to know taxes. And I do, the theory. But I fail miserably trying to pull numbers from those 1099's and W2's. So I thought why not? Well here's a list of WHY NOTs: 1) LOCATION: First of all, they charge more than other locations because supposedly, they are at a PRIME LOCATION, in Midwilshire area. Well, let me tell you where they are specifically, they are across from Macarthur Park. (You know, that infamous place where you can buy fake greencards, drugs, etc.) When you enroll they said that there's parking and it's free. The class was between 6-9 pm. Parking is fenced off at 7 pm. So the instructor said that she'll give us a break at 7 pm so we can find street parking. Have fun getting murdered. 2) LACK OF COMPUTERS: So this space is maybe about 200 sq feet. Yeah, it's as big as your cubicle (assuming you're not a manager). Guess how many ppl they cramp in there? Should be at most.. 6. But nope, the greedy franchise owner opens enrollment for up to 22 ppl! Nevermind that there's only 5 computers available only between 5:30 to 6 pm two days a week. That's 30 minutes before class. The instructor said "you have to do your exercises and quizzes in groups of three." So that's 10 minutes per person. Do know that you can only use their computers to complete about an hour worth of exercises before each class. Your computers are useless because the H&R Block TPS software is only installed on these computers. 3) LACK OF AC: Yup, no air conditioner after business hours. That's 5 pm. Class starts at 6. It was August, the instructor let us out early because it was inhumane to make us stay in that small space where they pack susceptible ppl who paid PREMIUM like sardines. 4) LACK OF ENGLISH SPEAKING INSTRUCTOR: Not kidding you, for the first hour I was trying for the life of me to figure out what the instructor meant when she said "beder tax". Finally, I was listening in context.. oh.my.gawd. she meant.. Federal TAX! She was sweet and patient.. But seriously, even with simple questions (like someone asked a stupid question: if you file jointly, can someone else file you as their dependent?" She had to think about that. Seriously??) she had to Pause to think for a long time. A Long Time. So it's not just an english proficiency Thing, it's a tax proficiency thing as well. Also, let me disclose that I too am NOT a native English speaker. Schools stuck me at ESL classes to meet quote even after I knew English, so I know how to understand broken english after having grown up in that environment. But this sweet lady, she should not be teaching an "English Only" class. Do Not Enroll Here. I can't even believe that H&R Block let this operation be associated with their name. Go to the La Cienega one instead, the Temple City one. I visited the Temple City location, and from the outside there are at least 20 computers. But I'm going to the La Cienega one now, that branch is pretty good. The teacher Ricardo Cautinho is good, very firm, provides structure, and doesn't entertain stupid questions so much. I like him. I went to this particular branch of HR Block this year because it was close to where I work and because I was not particularly impressed by the branch I went to on Sunset last year. Desiree Sebastian-Abad was very thorough and took her time to show me what she was inputting and how it affected whether I would pay or get a return. We actually ended up paying a bit this year but our income had gone up and both me and my husband were claiming the kids as dependants. I trust the work Desiree did this year much more than what our accountant did last year. I am witholding one star just because we had to pay more for HR Block forms this year but Desiree gets five stars for customer service. read more

(See last paragraph for the name of a great tax agent) I dropped in on a Wednesday during the off-season and was handled by an Asian woman whose name I don't remember. I explained to her my situation and what I needed help with, and she was very slow to grasp everything. I wanted her to call the IRS and sort out a problem on my behalf, and she told me that I should call them myself and that it would be a complicated process for her to do it. But I've had a different H & R Block agent do this for me- it's a standard procedure and it's not difficult. She then explained to me that she had an appointment in a half hour and wouldn't call the IRS for me. I was stunned at her poor service. If she was too busy to help me, she could have told me in the beginning of our meeting when I told her that I wanted her to call the IRS. Instead she wasted a half hour of my time fumbling with the computers in an effort to print out a prior return. Yes, it took her a half hour to print a return and tell me that she didn't have time to help me. After leaving that office, I was fortunate enough to stumble across Faye Ammar at the 4929 Wilshire Blvd H & R Block, 15 minutes west. She is super nice and was very savvy. She immediately called the IRS as I requested, asked great questions that I didn't think of, and gave me a "plan of action" after we hung up the phone. Go find her. read more

Very disappointed. When my taxes were being prepared I caught the preparer had overlooked the withholding of my unemployment and initially mis-stated my liability. After I filed IRS contacted me that Form 8962 regarding my health care subsidy hadn't been submitted. I returned to talk to the woman who prepared my return. She admitted that not submitting the form was an oversight and upon re-opening my account claimed my liability was much larger than she originally told me. And all she offered was a vague "sorry" for unprofessional/incompetent service. I told her I had no trust in what she was saying and would seek help elsewhere. The IRS has given me contact information for VITA free tax services that they train/certify to help figure out what my situation is. I will never use H&R Block again and deeply angry at their CPA's substandard handling of my return! I should get a refund of what I paid them to handle my taxes! read more

my story might be common because it involved uncertainty on my part but here it is. I went to H&R block in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and I never had an issue. for 2013 and 2014 I decided to go to another company because I was promised more money. Indeed, in 2013 I did receive more money but 2014 is when the problems began. The IRS called me saying I owed money because my 2013 taxes were not done properly and I was going to be penalized for 2014 also. In 2016 I decided to go back to the experts. not only did the employee at H&R block help me, she had no problem calling the IRS and helping me get my situation fixed (we were on the phone for more than hour) she made me feel like someone actually cared and that it wasn't just about them making money. now I don't owe the IRS money and my 2015 taxes are filed smoothly and I am proud to say my son will be born in 2016 and I know H&R block will help me when it comes to claiming my little man. thank you for everything and this particular H&R block will have my business for a long time. read more
