Thomas Clark was extremely good. He was very knowledgeable, never seemed to rush but got through multiple complex forms quickly and always asked the right questions. The only thing is he isn't there anymore and apparently opened his own firm. His replacement not so good. To be honest we had trouble understanding him and didn't feel comfortable that he knew his stuff. The appointment also took twice as long as it was scheduled for. When you get charged premium rates you should get premium service and this was not the case. read more

Gets a 2 instead of 1 because Julie has been excellent in a previous year, but this year (2024 filing deadline for 2023 income tax) this office cancelled 2 scheduled appointments the day of the appointments, then when I finally got an appointment with a replacement guy named Mike who ended up losing my info and going awol. When I finally got an appointment with Julie much closer to the deadline, she did her usual good job with standard taxes and promised within a week she'd have an answer for a specific question about an alternative way of filing. Weeks went by with rare answered phone calls and more empty promises until I had to stop by the office to submit the payment before the deadline. Again she promised me an answer to my question within the next week. No answer, then no response to 10 or 15 attempts to reach the office for several weeks. It's now July, I had an appointment formally scheduled through the Block Advisors website. I show up on time, there's an "Open" light on the window but nobody in the office. Nobody answers phone calls and nobody has appeared 20 minutes after scheduled appointment was supposed to start. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Yvonne. It was difficult to communicate with her and understand the tax concepts she was attempting to explain to me. When I tried to tell her I did not understand, she came across irritated and frustrated--a big turn off for working with Yvonne. Her impatience and inability to try to help me understand made it quite uncomfortable to work with her. After our meeting, she didn't seem appreciative of my business, not a thank you was said. I expected more of Block Advisors, especially given the business is build on client relationships. With Yvonne, this was certainly not the case. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere where I felt welcomed by the CPA handling my tax matters and showed patience and understanding with my questions. read more

I went to Black Advisors and was helped by Julie and another man on a last minute filing of 1099's. I came late in the afternoon and waited for a while, not knowing that I was supposed to push the bell on the desk for someone to know I was there... I could see through her glass office window that Julie was with others so I did not rush her. After 20 mins, I pushed the bell and the man emerges from another room from behind. So if you do not get attended to immediately, push the bell! When filing the data electronically for my 1099's the man took a while and we had to go back and reverify some info. I would knock off one star for that, but as soon as Julie became available she checked up on us and made sure the forms were being filled correctly. This made me feel at ease. Even though the whole process took longer than I expected, I am giving them 5 stars for accommodating me last minute and for the very affordable pricing. I may come here next year for filing my 1099's again! read more

Julie Nani is a blessing to the tax world. Tell your friends! As a 20-something graduate student who didn't understand much about taxes, I really appreciated her help. I went to her last year and returned this year as well as recommended a friend. In the past, I went to 2 other West LA H&R block locations, and they had no idea what to do with my fellowships, grants, tuition, W-2 income, etc. Julie is super knowledgable of the confusing rules surrounding grad students and she is clearly up to date with the tax code changes under the Trump Administration. I only go to this particular H & R block because of the awesome customer service and attention to detail that the manager Julie has showed to us. Last year my friend and I both went to this tax branch and Julie was so super friendly and made the stress of taxes disappear , I would highly recommend her to anyone. They recently redid the inside of the building and it is really nice and modern looking with doors now for privacy. Julie is extremely smart and personable and I will definitely be visiting her next year as well. Talk about the most disgusting and unprofessional business I've ever been to. I filed my taxes with them last year and there is nothing I regret more than that. They filed my taxes and told me everything was set. A few months later I get a letter from the IRS stating that my taxes are now past due and I have to pay a penalty?!?! I rushed online and just paid it and filed it myself. I went back and asked them what went wrong? What happened? No one could give me answer. Fine, now I asked them to reimburse me for the late fees that I paid because of THEIR mistake. They put in a "investigation" and I never heard back. I followed up multiple times and nothing. Point is, they are absolutely horrible at what they do. Save your money and save your time. Go elsewhere. read more

I had: Brian Milinsky. You can tell right off the bat that he has been doing this for a very long time and that he really knows his stuff. I had a fantastic experience and was in and out fairly quickly. I was employed by a company for only one month in the tax year and was independent contractor the rest of that year, so I had a lot of forms and write offs to take care of. It was a piece of cake for Brian and I really appreciated his help and expertise. I also really enjoyed this location. Everyone was really nice and the inside and outside of the building was clean and nicer than some of the other H&R Blocks that I've been too. There is neighborhood parking where you can park. JULIE NANI is the most helpful, generous, and kind accountant there is. She waited 3 HOURS on the phone with the IRS on hold with me just to help. This is my second experience coming to her for help. She helped me obtain my IRS Non-Filer Verification form in two ways. She was willing to try both ways to assure quality service and outcome. I decided to file my taxes here due to the close proximity to my office and because it was recommended by a colleague. While the person who assisted me was professional and nice, I will never return and I wouldn't suggest filing taxes here. 1. Their cost varies way too much. I was charged $235 only to find out two other friends of mine only paid $50 and $85. When I asked about the price difference they told me it was due to me having a student loan form. I regret going here and cheating on my regular tax guy, who charges a flat fee of $100 and always does a great job. Also, I was ready to walk out when he (HR) told me $235 because I knew I was going to owe back in taxes and wanted to save the $135 towards that. HR's guy told me "oh, I can tell you're going to get a refund just by looking at these forms. You're not going to owe" so I decided to file with them. You can only imagine my annoyance when he tells me "you owe XX to state of CA, and XX to federal". I wish I wouldn't of fallen for his misleading confidence. Oh, I also stated my frustration to the manager of the branch (regarding price variations) and told her I was going to share my experience on yelp so others try to find a cheaper alternative (UCLA is nearby and I'm sure students with student loan forms may file here). She told me I shouldn't slander her business. FYI, sharing my personal experience is not slander. read more

First and foremost, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Julie Nani!!! We first met Julie last year to help us on our tax issues way back 2010 up to the current year. We told her situation and she was all ear and sympathetic. Julie made sure we were comfortable dealing with her. And she did it with much care and understanding. She assured us that she will help us get things straightened up and in order. She stayed late to wok on our taxes, reviewed it to make sure we get the best option when filing. She personally called and IRS & the State tax FTB and represented us so well, they gave us the best payment plan we could ever imagine. I am a very outspoken person and tell it as it is. If my wife & I did not get a less satisfactory experience, they will be the first one to know and make sure the whole world hears it too. But I also believe, if someone did a good job that I would let everyone know how well they did and would highly recommend that person or entity. I cannot recommend Julie Nani highly enough! She is incredibly kind, intelligent, efficient and and true professional. Julie had prepared several of my returns in the past; and last year, I made the mistake of going to the wrong HR Block location (further down on Westwood Blvd) thinking i had booked with her again, only to find out the woman there was NOT Julie, and lied to me saying that Julie wasn't with the company anymore. My experience there horrible, lengthy and way over priced. Thankfully I did my research and found Julie again. I had my appointment today and she did my complicated tax return in under 30 min, making it so that I owe $0, at a very fair price. Cannot recommend them to anyone. I set an appointment with Gordon to have both my corporate taxes and individual taxes filed in late February. It involved a 1031 exchange into multiple properties and was informed that it would not be a problem, as they can handle the most complicated taxes. A month goes by and Gordon had still not started working on the corporate return. Not to mention he literally never returns phone calls. You just need to keep calling him and hope that he picks up. I finally got through to him in the last week of March and he told me that he cannot complete the return due to some software issues. I then spoke to whom I presume was his manager , Linda. She reassured me that the issue would be resolved and that they would complete both my corporate tax return and my personal by April 15th. Then she goes into the dark and doesn't return phone calls. Finally 12 days before my taxes are due, I got a hold of Linda who explains that they cannot file my return. End of story. No recommendation on where to go, just a good luck. Don't use them. It's a very unprofessional office - one of the worst experiences I have had in professional services. read more

Went in to get my taxes amended from Julie Nani. She was very nice and didn't charge me for the service because it was only to add one additional return to my account. Julie told me that I was going to get a few hundred back from California. THEN I got a notice from the state of California saying that I owed $400. By this time, I was in Atlanta for the summer. When I went to another representative, she reached out to Julie to try to get her to pay for the mistake, and Julie won't return her calls. She is also not taking responsibility for her mistake. H&R Block won't pay for it unless Julie claims fault because it's an amendment. This is terrible customer service. I wouldn't go to Julie or this location, unless you want false hope about money you are getting back. I hope that Julie reads this and corrects this error, but until then, this bad review will remain on this page. read more

This "place of business" deserves my first review. I wish I had looked them up on yelp before booking my appointment online. Unfortunately for me, I opened yelp while sitting with Gordon as he tried to file my taxes. This place is absolutely TERRIBLE. If you have an appointment, cancel it. I have an extremely simple tax filing, all Gordon needed to do was enter my W-2 (no dependents, not self employed, ect). He never asked me questions to help increase my return and after 30 mins- which was mostly in part because he only types with one hand he charged me $250!!!! This should not be legal. Never again will I use H & R Block, I feel like I was just robbed. read more

Julie Ann Nani is literally the best business person I have ever dealt with in my life. I've been around business and deal with vendors and service providers on a daily basis but have never had the experience that Julie Ann provided. We waited until the last minute to finish our taxes for our company which Julie Ann and her team were very helpful with. I then had to leave for a business trip and couldn't make it back on time to sign them. I called Julie Ann and was freaking out a bit but she calmed me down and assured me that if there was a way to make it happen, she would make it happen. Long story short, she over-nighted everything and checked with us to make sure everything was here. We have a lot of investors that we have to report back to, she literally saved us a LOT of time and MONEY by being the BEST service provider ever.
