Alright, this H&R Block does not deserve a 1 star rating. I went here last week to file our 2023 taxes, and I had a very pleasant experience. Laurel was extremely helpful during our tax prep, and even got us all set up and prepped for my 2024 taxes next year. All the staff were very friendly, and the location wasn't busy at all. I called and talked with an agent for H & R Block. I explained that my prior accountant just made a decision to tire in part because of Covid. She was in her 80's. I was looking to H & R Block to do a Corporate Return for my business which was under an extension. Now I have several businesses that my accountant before she retired had completed plus my personal return and after she retired I noticed she forgot one when she sent me all the paperwork. I called her and I just told her I would get someone else to do it and thanked her for over 20 years of service. In talking to the agent for H & R Block in Paw Paw Michigan, she appeared to me that she was more interested in quoting me prices for the work as I explained what I wanted. The first price quoted was $500.00 and started there. I talked to one person who forwarded me to someone else. I wanted a simple consolidated C Corp return of which I had all the numbers in front of me for them to simply fill in the blanks on the forms. She told me basically she did not know how to do one like I wanted. I thought "What??". Here is one of the largest Year Ending Tax Return companies in the USA and did not know how to do a very simple consolidate C Corporation return. I now totally question this companies expertise. It seems like they were more focused on how much they were going to charge me then doing the job. That was on a Monday. Wednesday I met with H & R Blocks competition. They said to come in and they would do it. I sat down with their agent and he said "No problem we done them before." and I can do yours right now if you wish. I sat with him and gave them the numbers of which he filled in the return. He then asked if I had one or two years priors return for him to take a view as to see if I missed anything. I had three years with me. Nope I did not. One hour later my return was done, electronically filed, at a cost of $250.00..... half of the figure that H & R Block began with quoting me. I want you to understand it had nothing to do with the money it was the expertise I was looking for. Frankly based on my experience and a bit of phone rudeness on the phone, if my dog had to do a return I would not ever take it to H & R Block. This is a very honest and real review. H & R Block lost a lot of possible future business had they known how to do a simple consolidated C-Corp return as I was looking for a new home to do my year ending. Well maybe, in my view as I explained what I wanted she got a bit of a rude tone on the phone when she said "I do not think I know how to do it". In any case I found that home with the OTHER COMPANY, who was nice, very knowledgeable and realistic in their pricing in my view. They will get my future business. H & R Block may have the name behind them, but lacked the expertise in my view on this matter or so they indicated in doing my return. Needless to say I was not impressed at all. You do business with who you want, for me, H & R Block is off my list to ever do anything with my year ending. read more
