The IRS sent us a colorful letter that we had been audited, and needed to pay several thousand dollars within a month. The office was clean and tidy. We called to make an appointment and were greeted almost instantly. Mei-mei W. was punctual for our appointment and happily helped us correct what 200$ of turbo tax could not. She was careful with the details of our medical insurance forms and helped us make sense of the critical details. She was very knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommended! read more

No dedicated parking area and no disabled parking spaces. Took 15 minutes to find an on-street parking space. I am senior citizen and use a walker. This H&R Block office is in a new modern building, but their front door has no handicapped access button! To enter or exit this office, you need someone to open the door for you! Staff was nice, but the accessibility to this office is absolutely terrible. I will not use them again. read more

No malicious intent from the business, but in the end I'm out nearly $400 without the actual piece of the service I asked for. My tax situation was a bit more complicated this year, and I decided to have professionals take care of it. Had a great experience w/ the HR Block on Hawthorne some years ago, so brought my return business to a NE location. I specifically asked if HR Block could handle a certain tax situation, and they assured me yes. 1) Scheduled me for an online appt. about two weeks out. That morning, I go to the online portal, leave the accountant a message, and he calls me saying there's no evidence I have an appointment. He says he'll fit me in, but it'll take more weeks. OK fine, there was a miscommunication somewhere. 2) Schedule for an in-person pickup. I show up, they think it's online, despite my double-confirming, and my taxes weren't ready. OK fine, it's COVID times, I understand, things happen twice sometimes. 3) Finally, I show up to pick up my taxes. Huzzah! Except I sit down with the accountant and find my original request wasn't even something their software could handle. So now I'm in an awkward situation for the next few months. If Block had just told me their software couldn't handle the request, I would've thanked them and moved on with my day. Instead, I'm out $400. Buyer beware, I guess? (Oh, and the receptionist seemed very mask-optional on this particular afternoon.) read more

Got an invite by mail to upload my tax documents to H&R Block for tax preparation. What a laugh! I will NEVER use them again. My very simple tax return of last year and such an over charge...Almost $550! My tax preparer delivered the amount of charge with a smile on her face! An outrage! read more

I should have trusted my gut. My partner and I went in and brought all of our documents/forms ahead of time and were ready for preparation. An older CPA came out and got us from a row of cubicles and spent very little time with us, in the meantime using microaggressions to never address me (Indian). Seemingly he didn't know more than me about Portland's crazy SHS Tax or PreShool for All tax. Finally I asked if we should be paying for this (he finally said, yes he can manually file it for us). Before leaving Thomas Curtis (from the Sandy location) guaranteed, after re-asking, that he would file both the SHD and PreSchool tax manually. My partner and I left feeling semi confident that it would happen as they said. 1 week later we recieved a notice int he mail that not only were we "late" but we also recived an interest fee. My parnter called in outrage and H&R Block basically said "Oh Thomas, he doesn't work in the office full year, so he doesnt' understand the deadlines." - Don't trust them. HR & Block do better! We paid $390 for filing fees and it was absolutely worthless. WILL 100% never recommend. read more

I had an appointment that I needed to change to a later date, I called to do that. The person I was speaking to found my original appt and in mid process of changing I was disconnected. My info was on her computer but she didn't call back, so I did. In the midst of changing appt again (different person this time) I was disconnected AGAIN! I called back again, asked for supervisor. Was told she had just stepped out and she would call me back. That was s week ago. No one bothered to call me. VERY VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

This review is for the TSA Pre-Check appointment only. It took me a long time to come around applying for the TSA Pre-Check and I'm not sure why. When you go one the site, it gives you the next appointment available, and they were either during my work hours or months ahead, which psyched me out. Then I said, "Screw it, let me just walk in." I got there right after work and expected to wait forever and ever. IT. TOOK. A. TOTAL. OF. TEN. MINUTES. What the hell? I walk in, they let me know if someone is scheduled ahead of me with an appointment, they'll take that person first. No problem, I sit down and 30 seconds later, they call me. Ask a few questions, make sure everything looked good, and they take your fingerprints. She asked when my next flight was and I said in about a month. She advised it usually takes a few days to get my number, and she was right! Literally four days later, I was assigned my number. Man, I'm so used to government agencies screwing the pooch, but they made it so damn painless, I feel a bit embarrassed for not doing this sooner. Keep in mind that it'll probably get busier with the summer months coming up, so do it rather than later. read more

Yesterday I dropped in for my appointment for TSA pre check with my husband and daughter. It was easy to find street parking. Ian took us back to a cubicle and review our online applications, scanned our passports and took our fingerprints. He was very clear and informed us well on how the whole process works- which I appreciated. As a bonus the appointment was pretty quick and painless. We were there 15 minutes early and he came to grab us right away. Great overall experience. read more

I found out he finished my amend return because the IRS send me a letter I called this office and Robert was not there because he only works during tax season . Martha is my hero! I stupidly let a friend do my taxes in 2009. Long story short, the friend screwed up, and Martha was able to fix it this year and find me a bunch of money by doing a Second Look. I've never dealt with any other tax professionals at H&R Block, but if you need help with your taxes, call them up and ask for Martha. She's friendly, fast, and totally knowledgeable. You won't regret letting her do your taxes. read more

I actually can't get my taxes done because there's only one h and r block per state apparently that's open these days. H and r block deliberately closed down buildings during a pandemic to ensure difficulty filing. I now have to file an extension because there are so few h and r blocks and they're all booked for months. Even after the black extension into October I'm positive I won't have my taxes done. I get to wait a year for a tax return. read more

Terrible experience filing my taxes for last year. Representatives are not knowledgeable. Service is atrocious - it's very difficult to get a straight answer. Seems very disorganized and apathetic. We came here for our TSA pre-check appointments. Pre-check is totally worth it - the headaches, the price, everything - but there were headaches. Our helper had difficulty in scanning in our documents, and couldn't get ahold of anyone for a long while, as it was after regular business hours. There are no supervisors onsite, and it became super frustrating. At least the fingerprinting was pain-free. Finding street parking was a bear during rush-hour, people were zooming past us like maniacs. I suppose you don't have too many options for this service, so grin and bear it, and thank god for precheck. read more

The guy was ok, not real personable and I didn't feel confident that my money was in good hands. After about an hour he told me my total would be $250! I would never ever pay more than $150 for my taxes to be prepared. I know people with quality accountants that charge $150 per hour to do their taxes and it only took an hour! So why in the heck would I pay $250 per hour for a wannabe accountant? I asked if I was obligated to pay, he said no and I high tailed it out of there. I'll never use H&R Block again. read more

I have had some issues with this company and in specific this location. After almost a month of phone calls and follow up I have gotten to the bottom of my problems. Wayne who is a a Tax prep person helped me from the beginning to the end. The problem didn't start with Wayne it was previous to Wayne and unfortunately he got pulled into it, but took initiative and seen my problem through and got it corrected and taken care of! I appreciated the energy he put forth to get my situation resolved. If you need tax work done I would recommend Wayne! read more

I have no idea how the other CPAs are at this location but I believe that the experience at a business should be stellar no matter who you see. My experience here, I'm sorry to say, was terrible. I will never use an H&R Block again, unfortunately. The representative I was assigned to worked extremely fast and never once warned me what my total cost would be for her services and it turned out to be well over $400 for one year's tax return! That is atrocious. And that didn't even include all the taxes I had to pay! And my taxes weren't even that complicated! But all of the work had already been done and filed and so there wasn't any going back. I dislike confrontation so I didn't complain as much as I should have, but looking back now, I should have refused to pay. I just really wanted to pay and get out of there. While she was doing my taxes, there were very little questions asked of me and the interaction was in no way personable, which is something that I would look for since my money is being handled. I want to feel confident in the financial professional that I am working with and if the person doesn't dig deep into your habits and whatnot, there are probably some missed deductions. On top of that, I received a couple of letters from the IRS asking for all of my tax information for the past 5 years and I had to speak to another representative to get some real clarity. I'm still not sure why they were asking for this but I was told not to worry about it!!! I very rarely leave bad reviews on here because I want to give businesses the benefit of the doubt and just because I had one bad experience shouldn't color the whole business. This place is a complete waste of time. It took weeks to get an appointment. I spent at least 4 hours going over my tax situation over 2 meetings. During the meetings, the agent raised a lot of anxiety unnecessarily by not being very knowledgeable about tax law. The agent did not respond to emails or return ANY phone calls. The only correspondence I every received from them was a phone call letting me know they were not going to handle my taxes. I was flabbergasted. I wish Yelp had negative stars.
