We had been waiting for over a month for our taxes to be done. We called and emailed multiple times and got no response. Finally, a month and a half later, we got a phone call from H&R and were scheduled for an appointment with a different tax professional. Regina was amazing! She was on time for our appointment, very knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and efficient. We finally got our taxes done with her! The only reason I'm giving H&R Block 5 stars is because of Regina! Otherwise, I would give them 1 star. If you choose to do your taxes with H&R Block, ask for Regina. read more

These people are rude and slow. I turned in my paper work for my taxes to be done by Oct 15 on September 1st and on the 12th i get a call and they said I gave them too much information and would not be able to do my taxes. Last year the lady did them and it took her well over 3 weeks. This year she wasn't there and the man who took my stuff didnt bother to call me for 12 days. He was going to scan my information to insert into the system. He said to go to a bookkeeper. Why didnt he tell me that 12 days ago. Luckily, i still have a month and I already paid them with my extension. I hate paperwork and my mind seems to clamp shut when i have to do it. It is fine that they wouldnt do them or go through my stuff, but why wait almost 2 weeks to let me know. I dreaded bringing them back there and i should have followed my gut. I was not easy money for them so they turned me away. My main complaint is their phone system, communication and lack of interest in helping. I was warned and this office in particular is very slow to do anything. No urgency or regard for the client situation and no offer of a packet or help to organize how they wanted it. I had to ask for a worksheet or something. Dont go to this branch. Or better yet, dont use them unless you are already able to do the taxes yourself for them. This is the worst experience I have had in a while. Coming from someone who works in customer service and has a lot of patience, do not come here. Whe we got there the first words said were "Jesus Christ " from the front desk bc she didn't know what she was doing. Also our tax guy Mo has not responded to us. They don't answer phones, texts, emails, they don't respond in the app. We had an appointment that they no showed for. Then they scanned our documents and told us they'd be in touch? These people have no clue what there doing, I went there to get my taxes done and the clerk begins to tell me I owe 3,000$ to the state. I said there is no way I have no idea how that could be, so I said I'd reach back out if I needed more help. This was my first time using H&R Block to prepare my taxes and it will be my last! I went to the one located on Farmers lane in Santa Rosa. From the beginning my preparer was incompetent . He asked me the same questions over and over in the same conversation. Then forgot what we discussed the next conversation. It was frustrating. He finished my return and I mailed in my taxes( I owed a large amount which I expected). 2 weeks later, I received a refund from the State AND Federal government because his calculations were incorrect!!! Nice and easy. I have never had my taxes finished this quick. They entered in everything from our W2 and asked estimations on medical expenses, student expenses, donations, etc. I am now getting more back then before using turbo tax. $140 for 2 people to file and I'm getting my return deposited into our checking account. I am thoroughly irate from deciding to go with HR Block for my tax needs. This January (it's now September) I brought my taxes for 2010 & 2012 in to Mr. Fredrick Brouse. He was the man with the most experience according to the bios and was also the guy who handled trust/investment taxes. I normally do my own taxes without a hitch but these two particular years were a lot different than I had ever done so I thought I'd have a "pro" do them. Long story short... I was charged nearly $700 for these two years and this was after he "discounted" one of the years significantly. (Did I mention I didn't even work in 2012, hence I didn't have a lot of income nor did I expect a large return if anything). Though the price tag irritated me I knew it was necessary and just went with it. For that price I expected my taxes back quickly without any problems. Boy, was I wrong! After Mr. Brouse put the wrong address on the paperwork, which I had pointed out multiple times, he also ended up filing my taxes for 2012 twice. With that being said it's SEPTEMBER and I still have not received a tax return! I have left Mr. Brouse several emails to which he's either taken his time returning and then made about why it wasn't received, or has now just taken to ignoring me. I have spent approximately 5-6 hours on hold with the IRS trying to resolve the issues he would not do for me. I also learned that because he didn't do some of the paperwork right I am now getting $350 less than I had expected back. I've had to file more paperwork on my own. As for my 2010 tax return that took me almost 6 months to get back as well. Needless to say I would NEVER return to HR Block. I would NEVER recommend Mr. Fredrick Brouse. I needed help from an enrolled agent to take care of some tax business as part of an estate for which I am administrator. Michael Hannan at the Farmer's Lane office was very helpful and knowledgeable. He patiently helped me complete forms, made copies for me, and completed the transaction online. He was very resourceful and efficient, making a difficult, complicated process much easier than if I had tried to complete the task on my own. During tax season for the past few years, I have also been impressed with the competence and friendliness of another tax associate in the same office named Susan Malin, who happened to be on vacation when I needed help with the estate. I was referred to Michael, who also proved to be very capable. I appreciate their help and competence. read more

If I could rate zero stars I would I have been having my taxes done by H & R Block for approx 8 years. My taxes are SIMPLE. I am a 1. Single person 2. One source of income 3. Own one home 4. Donate total approx 1,500 per year 5. PMI 6. No children As you can see, I COULD do my taxes MYSELF via turbo tax for a FRACTION of the cost! I have chosen to have H and R Block complete my taxes because I trust the preparer and ASSUMED your software was up to date ! WELL imagine my surprise when I received a call, from H and R Block towards the end of November 2015, advising me that your system had a "glitch" and I was owed $75.00 from my 2013 tax filing Not only did I get the UN enjoyable experience of 1. Losing interest on $75.00 for 2 years 2. Was deprived of $75.00 for 2 years 3. Had to get in my car, drive to an office (that was not near me since MY office is seasonal) 4. WAIT in the office for someone to become available to help me 5. I was handed a stack of papers, told to sign and then TOLD THAT I HAD TO MAIL THEM AND PAY THE POSTAGE MYSELF! 6. Was told that they could not be filed electronically 7. Had to then drive to the post office to assure that they were mailed correctly ! I would have just left things as they were BUT I did want to contact H and R Block and advise your company, as a service DUE TO YOUR ERROR, you may at LEAST MAIL the documents for any future issues. I called the Santa Rosa office on December 1, 2015 and was advised that I would need to speak to the manager, Julie Williams but she was currently at lunch. A message was taken and I was ASSURED that I would receive a call back that afternoon.......................... enter December 9, 2015 NO CALL BACK YET ! so I called AGAIN, and left a message with another representative was advised "that it was a very busy time, Julie had multiple meetings" and was ASSURED again that she would call me no later than December 10,. 2015. I advised that I took lunch at 12pm and I would appreciate a call at that time ...................... Today is December 22, 2015 and GUESS WHAT NO CALL !!! Since the MANAGER could not be bothered to return my call after several messages were left and I have had to waste about an hour online to just locate AN EMAIL ADDRESS for H and R Block (whom I emailed yesterday.... With you guessed it NO RESPONSE! And as I tried calling but this does not seem to work ) I just don't know what I am paying $300.00 a year for !! My taxes take approximately 30 minutes to do at A WHOOPING $150.00 an hour!) I do not plan on using H and R Block for my taxes any longer. I It is a pity as I REALLY LIKE the preparer I have worked with from day one. It's a shame that I have to leave due to a simple mistake that is the lesser of the issue. I would advise anyone and everyone to do anything in their power to steer clear of this company and branch. I have been wrestling back and forth with them for three weeks, and here is my story: When I went in, I told them that I wanted to get my return as fast as possible, so they recommended the "tax return advance loan" option; where they load the amount of your tax return onto a prepaid card and you can use it within 48 hours. They gave me the card but not the loan (I wasn't disqualified, they just hit the wrong option). So I had to wait just as long for my taxes to get here. When I called to try to straighten it out, they hung up on me. When I called again, they told me that they would fix my issue (after I spoke to the regional manager). It was not fixed for another week or so. When I finally got the funds loaded on my emerald card, it worked great for a week, and then started getting denied everywhere (Safeway, Gas stations). When I called customer service (after spending 15 minutes navigating their automated phone system), the first customer service representative hung up on me after I told them that I wanted to file a complaint. I called again and, after jumping through the same hoops, got to another customer service representative. They were unable to provide any useful information as to why the card was getting denied. When I asked to file a complaint and request a refund, they said "I don't understand". I am absolutely sick of this company. It seems that this company is full of inadequacy at all levels, they the employees locally, regionally, and nationally have no idea how to use the systems that they're supposed to be trained to use. All that I want now is a refund and to be finished with this useless company. read more

If I could give a negative rating I would. H&R Block had to re-do my taxes. The Cotati forgot to have me fill out a form the first time and I owed over $2000.00 because of it. I had the Santa Rosa location re-do my taxes to correct the problem and sent the correct paperwork in. Over the weekend I get another letter that I didn't pay enough taxes and I owe $700.00 more! This is so upsetting to me. Now I have to call them again and hope they can do my taxes properly for a third time. Please don't have H&R block do your taxes!!!! read more

Now I find that not all of my papers were even filed, so now I need to basically become an accountant myself to fill out papers which might as well be written in Chinese. No stars. Late filing (2009) of my parents' taxes for 2007 with H&R Block's help...and it was consistently rejected by the IRS. H&R Block failed to include (even with the income transcripts from the IRS in their hands) my father's pension, and did not use the correct forms for POA when one parent was unable to sign. When completing the 2008 returns (also late), they failed again to include my father's pension (even with the proper income transcripts in their hands), and while the IRS accepted that return, my parents lost their customary refund (due to high withholding rates). In 2009, H&R Block came up with a pension for my father that exceeded his actual income by $30,000, and the refund was too high. Both parents were ailing when we started this process of trying to catch up with taxes, but they would not accept help from family regarding their finances. My parents trusted H&R Block to know what they were doing. It took nearly 10 months for H&R Block to initially sort through my parents' income and expense statements, and they never, never, never returned phone calls. When my parents died in 2011, I was left with this tax mess, and it took $3000 of CPA efforts to untangle things and file the more recent taxes. All in all, there was a loss of $8,000 in legitimate refunds from the IRS, an expense of $1,500 to pay H&R Block to make a mess of things, and another $3,000 to pay someone to repair what could/should be repaired. No stars for H&R Block. read more
