I hired Steve to do my 2021 Federal and State taxes. In July the VA Dept of Taxation contacted me…read moreto indicated that I owed unpaid/overdue taxes. I contacted Steve. Steve indicated that he had a problem with his software provider and didn't submit a complete tax return. Steve indicated that I should ignore the letter and the balance would go away. In September, I was contacted again by the VA Dept of Taxation indicating that I still owed money, and VA was pursuing collections and/or garnishing my wages. It was a small amount, so I just paid it. I told Steve I was upset by several errors in my state taxes (hasn't happened to me in 18 years of self-filing). Steve said he didn't understand why I was upset. He did offer to pay the small amount of overdue taxes. For me, I have 2 expectations for tax prep: file on time and accurately. Steve was 0 for 2.

To be fair, he was professional initially and would respond to our questions more promptly. However all of the sudden he started being very short and extremely rude if we asked a question about something relating to our taxes especially when we entrusted him with our personal taxes as well as and business' payroll and taxes. Sarmad messed up the Business' taxes one year so badly we are still getting letters from the IRS, and to date we've had to pay a lot of money to the IRS. Just a week ago my husband mailed the IRS a check because he didn't file the taxes correctly. We've moved to a different CPA. I DO NOT recommend him at all. He is rude, arrogant and he does NOT want to be questioned even when you have every right to. He doesn't do well when held accountable. He is just very unreliable!

I am sorry that they had such a bad experience, but let us not make prejudiced statements. Back to Liberty Tax. I have found them professional and friendly. They are knowledgeable and provide valuable advice not only for "now" but for the "future". Will continue to be a repeat customer for now.
