Located off Sepulveda and Crenshaw in Torrance. Got my taxes done here. My ex coworker is at this location and another one she is a very smart efficient lady. So I made an appointment with her. Even when we were working together she always answered my questions I had about taxes. Normally my dad always did my taxes but since he passed last Oct I had to find someone to do my taxes. Also the one my mom goes to wasn't taking any new clients so I couldn't go that route. This is a small place so they have to be at 25% so basically no more than 7 people including the employees. So I dropped off my paperwork and she worked on them while I waited in my car. She was done pretty fast within a hour and took care of everything. I will be having her do my taxes from now unless she stops doing it. Overall it went smooth and efficiently. read more

In general in my opinion there are some areas where HR Block falls short of what their advertising gives the impression they are capable of: 1. Dealing with problems that arise after taxes are filed. When we needed 5329 filed we approached Block first. They didn't want to handle the issue and we had to enlist a private CPA. We were told Block has no CPAs. 2. An unwillingness to deal with crypto reporting. Had this problem with two different Block offices over multiple years. 3. Generally maybe not staffed adequately in off season. We were told to call and make an appointment. When we tried we were told the manager was too busy. 4. At regular tax preparation time we requested a print out to check for any errors prior to filing. We were told we could not see a print out until we paid and then any errors that required an amendment we would owe more money for because the taxes are filed right away. This isn't right in my opinion. read more

submitted my forms in April and had a video appt. scheduled that was cancelled. NEVER received more contact as promised after that. Messaged Lisa Garcia on 5/9/23 and still waiting for a response. Escalated this with customer service and then was told a supervisor was not replying and that Lisa said if she has time she can get to them. This is the 2nd year this has happened to me. Had a bad experience with Block Advisors (on line appt did not show up in their system even though I had two confirmations and front desk was meh) so came back to the traditional old H&R Block and all went very well at the Palm Plaza location. Turns out I got in for about an hour from the time I called. The person I saw, Aleczia Cabral was lovely and very competent. The front office staff was very nice and I paid just over $400 to get my fairly complicated taxes done in an hour and a half of personalized time. Her office manager even took the extra step of restapling my donation receipts after scanning the way I had brought them in which I thought was a nice touch. As a manager of people and business in the past I was always very protective of my people and appreciate when someone also looks out for their team and locations. I posted a very negative review for what I thought was the H&R Block Advisors on the wrong location and the District Manager for H&R Block in the South Bay, Manuel Alvarez reached out to me to let me know his location was not the Block Advisors so I could repost to the right location. Good on you Manuel, I totally like to give credit where credit is due and you obviously take care of your people to ensure that. People are what it is all about and I imagine you are very involved with them based on the ambience of your Palm Plaza location. Thanks for that! read more

The worst ever! In today's world, businesses tend to forget that they would not have anything if they didn't have clients! The attitude of the Senior Tax Consultant, was very condescending and made sure that she was going to try and get my taxes done, but she had other clients to follow me! Unfortunately I walked out and will find another tax company to work with. Update: I ended up going to the H and R Block on PCH where they welcomed me with amazing customer service. Katie was attentive and "wanted" to do whatever it took to accommodate me. And not once did I mention my experience at the Crenshaw location. What a HUGE difference! Came here a few weeks ago to get my taxes done and was charged over $300 for my 1099-INT and DIV + W2. I was also Charged an extra $120 for having "Complex income". Came here on Friday had an appointment and they kept me waiting until I asked 30min in whats was going on . I was told the tax preparer was having software issues and I thought that was strange cause the other preparers didt have that issue. Anyways I was offered to come back or drop off my documents but since that was a lie(looked like she was making corrections with another customer) and they didnt tell me about the issues I refused. Don't go here if you can contact a different office. There are many in nearby communities. Especially, don't call them on a Sunday, even during tax season with a simple question about their service. You'll get someone who isn't a tax preparer and can't answer your questions. They transfer you to a tax preparer who also can't answer the question. They don't tell you they don't know the answer to your question....they just make you repeat over and over again until you hang up in exasperation! Yes, these are easy non-specific questions about their "downloadable" software. They should be able to answer them in the English language. Life in this pandemic world is full of anomalies, disruptions, and unpredictable changes. Find a different location. read more

I have used various H&R Block offices for over 20 years. This is by far the worst. They prepared an unnecessary CA return even though we questioned the need for it. I discovered the mistake through my own investigation. They had to file an amendment. Now I'm trying to get refund from H&R Block for the preparation of an unnecessary document. CA made us pay tax and penalty even though an amendment was filed. Waiting for refund now. No return calls, no updates, no one available to answer questions. All around poor customer service from H&R Block Do not waste your money on Peace of Mind Guarantee. Even though we purchased coverage, it was denied because they said we did not provide all necessary information. Total BS. The only additional information I gave them was a copy of the CA publication that proved they prepared our taxes improperly. Had our taxes been prepared by a competent agent, she could have found the information herself with minimal effort. Have had to file two separate complaints with H&R Block customer service. It is now August and this is still unresolved. read more

Don't even bother with this place or any H&R Block if you have complex taxes i.e. more than one W-2 and 1099 MISC with itemized deductions. I went to an actual Tax Professional with a degree and they said H&R Block screwed up on my taxes last year loosing me $1000 but luckily I can get it back this year in a refund. This place might be helpful if you don't know how to use a computer or Turbotax. They literally sit there and crunch numbers into a software similiar to Turbotax that they barely even know how to use. They quickly run through and assume they are inputting things correctly without even asking you questions. My suggestion is research Yelp and find a better tax professional than H&R block, you'll end up saving on your taxes while paying the same amount to get them done. read more

Please don't waste your time on this place. With busy schedules, time is the most valuable service you can provide you customers and this place has reached new levels of wasting my families time. First we called to make an appointment on Monday. We explained we're a multi-state return since my husband was an Active Duty service member. We explained very specifically that we needed our returns done for California and New York State. They set up and appointment for Thursday, so I proceed to take the day off from work to get my taxes done (my husband works weekends so it was the only way.) So they call on Wednesday and say that the military specialist who was going to help us do our taxes can no longer do so, they reschedule for Friday and explain that I don't have to be there since I can't take another day off. Come to Friday, where my husband goes in and is told that our taxes won't be processed until next Wednesday. Reason why? Because the person who did our taxes isn't certified to do New York State taxes so she needs the weekend to get certified and push through our taxes. Then, I now have to be in the office to sign the papers, which is not what we were told before. At this point I have to ask, Why not be honest with us from the start on Monday and tell us that they didn't have anyone who could process our taxes. They have now wasted 2 days of our valuable time. Your business is a tax processing. If you can't provide the service why not be upfront and let us find someone else. They decided to hold onto our paperwork until the person helping him could get certified and finish processing our paperwork. I made him go back and get our paperwork. This is ridiculous. next Wednesday... so from start to finish 10 days to complete our taxes when we have brought in all the required paperwork? We asked to be called back by the manager but she is apparently to busy to get back to us, despite the issue being theirs, so now we'll have to waste another day looking for somewhere to do our taxes. So if you value your time, look elsewhere or you'll get wasting many days trying to get your taxes done with no results. read more

I went in with one W-2 and one 1099, and walked out with a $320.00 bill for tax preparation.

I've been doing my taxes with Turbotax for the last 5 years, but just out of curiosity, I went down to H and R Block in Torrance to see if they could get me more on my return. Turns out that they basically use a program very similar to Turbotax and just punch in numbers. I'm not going to name the guy who "helped" me, but here's how NOT to induce confidence in your clients. 1. Don't ask the client if you spelled "Torrance" correctly. It's one thing if this office was in Los Angeles, or even somewhere else in the South Bay. But this office is IN Torrance! 2. Don't hand the customer your calculator and say, "You're a teacher- you're probably better at using this than I am." If there's just ONE piece of equipment an accountant would be great at using, it would be the calculator! The only way I knew this wasn't a practical joke was at the end he made sure to charge me for the return! I'll just leave with this- if when you schedule your appointment and the guy helping you looks like a B-movie mad scientist- choose another branch. read more

The Tax Professionals here are Excellent!! So much experience! Of course there are newer Tax Pro's, everyone has to start somewhere, but H&R Block requires a lot of education hours from their employees, so I'd trust them before any of those "other" posers. CPA's are Certified Public Accountants and not all of them expand their actual knowledge to more than 10% taxation, H&R Block has Tax Professionals, you know, the type who specializes in TAXATION. This branch even has several Enrolled Agents, top Tax Pro's who can do just about any return & even represent in front of the IRS! The office is very nice, new location from previous years, but just around the parking lot. There's a bank where the old office was, but I'm happy to report that the awesome Tax Pro's are STILL around & the office is still offering COOKIES to their clients (they are "guilt-free!" Of course). They are now right next to 31 Flavors ice cream, behind Subway. read more

Customer service is inept. They talk down to their customers. The fee for preparing taxes is over the moon and close to $1000. Please save yourself a migraine and have taxes done anywhere else but H&RB. I've learned my lesson and should have trusted my instincts. Even headquarters doesn't have this office in their directory. Never, never, never ever come to this location. I've been to HR Block in the past but this location has been a horrible experience. It's like everyone there is doing taxes for their first time. I had to come back after letting Mayu work on my stuff over the weekend. She seemed like she was confused the whole time...as if shes brand new to the tax business. Came back the following Monday, they couldn't find my materials. They finally found them but still missing stuff. Had sit for another hour while another guy fixed stuff. Seriously, my taxes aren't that complicated. It's never taken this long ever. The only reason I'm still sitting here waiting is because I've already invested so much time and don't want to have to start over at another place. It's seriously the most aggrivating, annoying, frustrating experience ever. So frustrated!!! I'm so close to walking out. Argh!!! Not worth the money at all.
