I returned this year to June at H& R Block because she has done an excellent job in years past. She is thorough, explains things clearly, and is also a kind person to talk with. Every year that I've been to this H&R Block (many years - two agents have retired while I've been a client!) -- I have always been greeted and checked in. The waiting area is basic, but pleasant, and since I've made an appointment ahead of time, I never have more than a few minutes of waiting. In all those years, I have only had one instance of needing to correct something on my tax form - and it was an oversight on my part and easily handled. I have a simple tax return. It's a no brainer, truly! Cecelia, who is a Tax Analyst and not an Enrolled Agent, prepared my 1040 last year no problem, no charge. So, I was in their system. I made an appointment this year with Cecelia, but it was a different story. She explained that it was 'free" last year, due to the pandemic. Duh! Aren't we still in the throes of the pandemic, worst than ever?? Therefore, she wanted to charge me a whopper fee, even though I wouldn't owe any tax! That fee included a document that didn't count under their policy! I noted other non-verbal cues about Cecelia's demeanor that made me uncomfortable. She is not service-oriented, she is not there to help, and if she can get you to pay more, or leave the office, she will. I didn't get a good impression of this office in general. My first & last visit to H&R Block. This was the worst possible situation I could have imagined. An agent told me that they knew how to help with my tax situation but was booked and gave me to another agent and would help that agent with my taxes. Well, turns out she did not know how to help me and without apology for misleading me simply ignored me. Ended up I owed THOUSANDS in taxes and they charged me almost $300. I went home, did my own research, checked with the IRS and found out I did NOT owe the money. I called the agent back, she said she'd research it but never called me back for over a week. I called and called and called every number I could find and was told over and over "so and so" would call me. No one ever did. The agent who did my taxes, June, never bothered to call me back nor did the agent, Nancy, who told me she knew how to do my taxes and referred me to June. I finally got the office manager, Cecelia, to file an amendment with only a few days left before the deadline and AFTER I did all the research with the IRS and online. Horrible experience and frankly they are basically tax hacks and not professional & knowledgeable tax preparers. Yet they charge you a lot to do your taxes. Beware, do you own taxes (it's easy online), for seniors there are free entities to do your simple taxes or just go to a real, professional tax preparer. P.S. It was basically my fault for going back to this office and agent. Nancy had done a family member's taxes, told him he owed thousands of dollars in taxes! I came to this office to have my taxes done by someone for the first time (usually I do them myself on turbotax), and Nancy was the agent that did them. It has been almost a year and I have not received any tax refund at all (federal or state), so I thought I might call and see what's going on. It has been almost a year and Nancy will not return my phone calls. So I decided to go down to the office, but she seemed to be busy every time I would go in (multiple times a week). I left my name and phone number for her to call my back every time I came in, but she still will not contact me. I currently am at H&R block AGAIN to see if I can get in touch with her and she pretty much acted like it was not her problem and walked away from me. Worst tax service and not worth the money they charge to do them for you. I still have not received a dime, let alone a call back. do not file taxes with this company, you will lose money and pay high fees. my refund came back short due to a lack of information given to the irs (by the tax agent). i turned in all the forms the irs mailed me and gave it to the h&r branch so they can fix the issue. i was told h&r will reach back out by april 20, april 25 rolls around and nothing. i called and no one had any updates. i lost money and paid over $200 for this!! read more

I've been to H&R block in the past and am way familiar with your bizarrely high fees, but usually don't mind paying to avoid screwing up my taxes by doing them myself. Diana completed my 2013 taxes plus two years of taxes I was late filing, but felt no need to tell me my 2013 taxes ALONE would be $161, an absolutely outrageous amount that roughly equals what I was planning to pay for all three years. In addition I was charged $80 for each previous year, both of which took longer to complete than 2013?! What?? So, $300 or so later, here we are, and I'm never going to use your services again! I will tell all of my friends and family to use Turbotax and/or get help from a tax savvy friend because your company and your business practices (at least at this location) are a JOKE. Why would no one in the office let me know that filing for this year would be so expensive, why did my service person wait until AFTER THE JOB WAS COMPLETED to tell me? Who does that? How is $161 fair for 15 minutes of work for something that I could do myself for FREE? I don't expect the sum I ended up paying to be adjusted to something reasonable, this is a franchised business of course, but I am convinced you do not care how your employees treat their customers and you therefore don't deserve my money. I had gotten my taxes done here by June on Feb 2022 and during the whole process she was rushing and did not check my direct deposit info so I never got my refund. Luckily I got the check from the IRS and I am also lucky it wasnt deposited to another persons account.  I spoke to management about it and the lady still wanted me to see her to try to "fix " it and had the nerve to blame me for not checking . A - if I did it wouldnt have happened ,B- she was rushing so I didnt have the chance ,C- Its your her/your job to check,D- you dont put a unhappy customer with someone who screwed him over.  You guys charged me 400 bucks I would expect better and funny thing is I paid 120 using taxslayer and never had a problem and the software doesnt act like a @-hole.  I am still waiting on the state taxes and another employee gave me the same thats your problem treatment when I asked.  I gave the 1 star rating because when I call the companies help number they actually try to help and they arent rude jerks about it. Waste of time we always pay insurance with H&R Block so they can fix any problems that we might encounter in the future with our taxes which we did this year and they said we had to pretty much take care of it ourselves. We than ask if they can help us with claiming previous child tax credit and we were told that the government isn't allowing that anymore witch is BS because I just went in the irs website and it clearly says we are still able to do it. If I could I would rate this experience a negative.....I made my appt. online. I received a phone call to confirm my appt. while I was in the shower. Trying to get 2 kids ready for school, I forgot to call back and confirm. Even though I didn't call back to confirm I still showed up to my set appt time. Only to walk in to a rude receptionist. She was on the phone with a personal call, after ending her call she asked if I needed help. I told her I had an appt with whoever I was scheduled with. First impression was great. Did my taxes online with H&R Block. Made couple mistakes so made an appointment with this office. They did second look found me some extra money great. Experience was great until I went and paid. Cecilia I believe the ladies name was ran my card for payment entered my pin done. Then she told me there was a clutch in the computer. Asked for my card again entered my pin. So I thought fine. Cecilia said oh we double charged you then laughed said I am just kidding. Next day I checked my bank statement and she wasn't kidding they did charge me twice. So I called and Cecilia answered told her what happened she laughed said no problem I will have office manager call you to fix. So I waited a day no call back. So I called next day asking for the office manager she wasn't in. Left my name and number again. Almost week later still no call back. Just don't feel they really care. Sad because the experience started out great. So I called my bank and they are going to take care of it. Advice to the so called office manager. Yes, taxes are super frustrating and H&R Block probably has a lot of branches that aren't so hot, but there is one shining star at this branch that I NEED to say thank you too. Diana was amazing! I walked in for my 2015 taxes and she explained everything was doing and what I should keep track of for a better return next year. She thought something might have been done wrong the previous year ( by another H&R block lady) and asked me to drop off the file I had on the previous year for her to go through. Needless to say, she got me a great return on 2015 AND went over 2014 again in great detail. She called me up and asked me to schedule an appointment to go over an amendment she made to my 2014 taxes. She refunded my money for the fees I paid to have them done ($190), didn't make me pay the fee to submit the amendment paperwork ($290) and got me another couple K towards my school loans. Had a few questions I wanted to ask regarding my tax return and a few changes I needed to make, and JASON KIM was nothing but rude. I have been using Minh Tran at the H&R block office on Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance to do my taxes for at least 10 years now. She has always done a great job. By a great job, I mean she is professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She exhausts all possible questions to ensure the most refund or in some cases, the least amount of tax owed. This year I have been unemployed. Minh and her manager, Richard Tippet were especially helpful in that they made it easy for me to file under difficult circumstances. Absolutely horrible service and deserve no stars at all. So-called knowledgeable tax professionals could not explain anything about my taxes. I owed the IRS and while I was paying them the IRS came after me for additional money. I had to go to H&R Block on 18537 Hawthorne Blvd for an explanation and neither the so-called tax expert or the so-called individual in charge could justify why the IRS was demanding additional money from me. She acted as if she was going to call the IRS to get to the bottom of it but all she did was call some fake number then hung up the phone and said I owed the IRS more money but could not explain why. Just a whole bunch of fake tax preparers that got the job through some ridiculous online training. The so-called tax professionals don't even know anything about the IRS so in this case they should not attempt to do taxes especially since they cannot explain anything on the taxes.
