I really wanted to give it 3.5 stars. I'm going to keep it simple because the only bang here is the food. Good portions & fresh food. My son loves their griot, however, he prefers with rice & beans only, ordering can be a hassle. If your looking for service, use Ubereats to order fast service & great food. I ordered the large griot w/rice n beans. It is served with green plantains and a salad. This food was delicious I couldn't make it home to eat the plantains so they're missing from the photos. I asked for some fatty griot and it was so flavorful and the meaty portions were crisp on the outside but tender and moist inside. I wish I knew how to make the rice cause geesus it was good. The cashier Ashley was super nice and the restaurant is very clean and spacious. I will definitely be going back soon. 9/12 called in my order for a small griot that's on here/menu for $7.50 and a macaroni au gratin (mac n cheese). When I picked it up the young lady at the counter told me $16.04. I asked her why and showed her the price on the internet and she says oh no that's old and it's $11 for griot. Since I was on my break I couldn't really stay and have her correct the LARGE griot for $11 and she wasn't going to make her wrong into a right because she ran to the back as I was talking I guess to get the patrons food that were sitting at the tables. I tried calling a few times so I could let the manager/owner know what has just happened but the phone continued to have the busy signal. The griot was good as the first time but the rice was gummy and the beans were dried out. What can I say, this place is a hidden gem. I've been several times. The staff is friendly, the food is full of flavor and the seating area looks cozy although I've never actually dined in. The legume and Tasso cabrit are my go-to. Their rice is always cooked to perfection, especially the diri djon djon. The macaroni au gratin is just ok but everything else is fire. A gentleman who was sitting right across the counter proceeds to explain to me that he was busy and i should wait... the guy was sitting on his phone texting.. i said at the very least he should greet me as a customer ask for a few minutes to get to me. I was visually impressed via Instagram but my taste buds were not. My parents are Haitian so I'm pretty used to Haitian food so I had rather high expectations. As expected, there was no customer service. I said good evening in creole and I got a rather dry response so I'm diverted back to English. I got the Tassot Turkey Simp and Lemon Pepper Wings. The Tassot Turkey was nothing special to be honest and it I didn't really taste the seasoning. One thing Haitian food is know for is heavy seasonings so I was pretty shocked at the lack of flavor. There this thing called "epiz" and I think they need to use more of it. The plantation were good though, it's kind of hard to mess that up. The Lemon Pepper Wings were simply too salty. The wings were tossed in some dry rub but sitting in a pool of salted butter. All in all, it wasn't that bad. But try for yourselves. read more

After a long flight I was craving Haitian food and we decided to come here. We were not impressed with their customer service or food. Their griot was dry and their patties are possibly the worst patties I have ever tasted. They were NOT flaky with layers like traditional patties. They were crumbling like some kind of butter cookies the meat was food though. I'm from NYC and Haitian, so I like to think I know my people's food. On top of all that the customer service wasn't good. We spent around 66 dollars on food, eye contact would be nice. None the less we won't be back, keep your crumbling patties. read more

Every time I head to sunrise I stop here. It's very clean inside. There is a great dining space. The music is mellow as well. As far as food. No disappointment so far. The food is a little heavy on the salt but I eat low sodium as always. I've ordered stew, and fried items and always yummy. Will definitely return and recommend as wel. read more

The signs are posted in several locations in the restaurant. The service, while polite, isn't anything to write home about. The diner-style breakfast is decent, but nothing special. They have--on a separate menu that they bring out when asked--a Haitian menu as well. They were out of fried chicken when we ordered it, but we were offered griot. Came back here again to try out the Caribbean side of their menu and WOW was I impressed! I am not a Caribbean food connoisseur by any means. This may have been one of the handful of times I've had it, BUT it was phenomenal. It was the definition of comfort food. I got chicken in sauce with rice and beans. It came with a huge plate of rice and beans (the kind that is mixed together, not the kind where it's rice with beans in sauce on top, but you could have that as an option as well) and my favorite fried plantains. The chicken in sauce is hard to describe, but it had a delicious spice to it. I was warned that it was spicy, but it wasn't at all to me. The chicken comes on the bone and I got 4 pieces. Granted, I did get the large because it was dinner time and they only offer large at that time, but for $10 you really can't beat the huge portions. This place is like the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Haitian Food. I usually go to Au Bon Gout when I'm in the mood for some good haitian food and Au Bon Gout never disappoints but it's all the way in Miami. Now the problem that I have with this restaurant is that they're not consistent. Some days the Pikliz is spicy and good but other days it tastes like lime juice and some sprinkles of Cayenne pepper. So far I've Ate the Griot and the Tassot (Turkey) from here and it's Meh, just alright. If I want Haitian food next time I'll just drive down to Miami for it. read more

Great Breakfast & lunch in Sunrise!!! I am writing this because whenever I discover a good non-corporate place to eat I want to get the word out. This place is in a very quiet plaza, the only way it will survive is by word of mouth!!!! Please try it and tell everyone! I just discovered a brand new restaurant in Sunrise that is fantastic for breakfast, lunch or dinner. H & R Grill is located on the NW Corner of Pine Island & Oakland Park next to the Lobster House. We were enticed by the $2.49 breakfast special advertised outside the establishment. For $2.49 you get 2 eggs, home fries, grits or oatmeal & toast. I of course opted for the very reasonably priced corned beef hash & eggs with hash browns & toast ($6.49). The corned beef hash was perfectly fresh and crispy exactly how I requested it, the eggs were also a perfect over easy with plenty of yoke (which is rare) and last but not least the hash browns were delicious!!! We also tried the french toast which was finished off with powdered sugar & cinnamon, yummy! Since it was after 12 noon my husband opted for lunch instead of breakfast - he chose the steak & cheese with french fries. The sandwich was over-filled with fresh and very flavorful meat, (I would guess it is a shaved rib-eye, but that is just a guess) with melted cheese, mushrooms & onions. It was really good & I believe the french fries were hand cut but I can't tell for sure!! When we walked in we were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and decor. I think they really did a good job with the atmosphere. It seems this place has a Spanish influence because some of the specialties were meals incorporate rice,beans & plantains but it has something for everyone. They serve breakfast until 3 pm 7 days per week, have a large variety of burgers and various other items. This is my favorite place to have lunch from! They deliver which is convenient, sometimes there is a wait but they let you know ahead of time. I never mind though, it is worth it. I always order the same two things, either the Breakfast egg wrap with jalapeño, onion, bacon and cheese or the Greek Salad with Cajun Chicken. It is always strange and unnerving to walk into a restaurant that is completely empty of customers. This was the case last Sunday lunch. However it was immaculately clean. The decor is sparse and you can tell it's all about the food. Which was actually pretty good. We had the chicken griot, a burger and a steak sub to go. Portions huge. Burger very thick and fresh tasting. I loved the french fries - crispy without being greasy, I took them home (couldn't eat them all) and to my surprise they all reheated fine over the next couple days. Which almost never happens. The service was also good - quick and friendly. The only issue I have is that I had an amazon voucher which I intended to use. Should have shown it right away, but since I had gotten a reminder email from amazon two days before to use before expiration I thought all was fine. This was not the case. I was told they were no longer accepting it. No rhyme or reason and the manager did not come out to talk to me about it. Had I known I would not have gone up to the $20. Partly my fault, but I wish they had had a sign on the door informing people of this. That would have been simple enough. It's ok - amazon worked with me but it was not pleasant. Food 3 stars. Service 2.5. Overall experience brought it down to 2. In a nutshell, the food and service was good - I just have mixed feelings about returning. Although I probably will. read more
