Even though it was in a weird place it was very delicious. I got the brisket tacos and the brisket was so tender and juicy! The beans had good flavor and the rice was not hard like most places. We were here for a softball tournament and wanted to try it out since it had 4.2 stars. They give you complimentary chips and salsa. The green salsa had a kick but was good and the red was good for the kids to enjoy! Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

Small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving some of the most authentic Mexican food I have eaten outside of Mexico. Overall, service is slow, but food is good. Chips and salsa are AWESOME. I think the chips are house made. Hubby had the asada and it was delicious, albeit, very spicy. And he LIKES spicy...so interpret that as you will. I had the mole burrito. Very good. Rice had a weird taste to it and the beans were soupy and bland, but I would definitely eat here again. We are guests of the hotel, so, tomorrow I will let you know what breakfast is like. Good morning! As guests of the hotel we were given small green sheets of paper where we circle/Mark our breakfast choices. There are 2 breakfasts: oatmeal or eggs. They are served with either coffee or orange juice. Not tea, coffee. I hate coffee. I think the orange juice is actually Orangina...a lightly sparkling orange flavored beverage. Artificial creamer powder for the coffee. We ordered the eggs/sausage/hash browns/pancakes. Not bad, but miffed about the lack of tea. read more

We are visiting Hobbs and decided we wanted some good mexican food. We checked out reviews and decided where to go. The first choice was closed for remodeling. The 2 down the block from there got bad reviews. So based on high reviews, we headed to El Caballero. I have a pretty high tolerance for run down "hole in the wall" restaurants as long as the food is good. But when we pulled up, I asked my husband if he was sure we wanted to eat here. It seriously looks unsafe. The restaurant is in a dilapidated old motel (think 50's motor court but not kept up). It's in the front building right up at the road next to the office (which looks completely closed). We decided to brave it, mostly because we had already been driving around a while and we are fine with marginal neighborhoods as long as the food is good and authentic. There are 2 parking spots in front. We turned in beside it and there are parking places in front of the motel rooms but we didn't want to take up anyone's space (although I'm thinking now that most people staying there don't own cars). So we turned around and backed out and parked behind the motel, where I wasn't certain that our car was safe or that we were safe walking back after dark. But I had high hopes for the food based on the reviews. The inside is just old run down diner, but clean. So we ordered. While waiting on our food, we got chips and 2 types of salsa. The green salsa was very good. The chips were not what I was used to. I think they were homemade but they tasted a bit stale. The food came looking like most Mexican restaurant dinner plates, Rice, beans, and an entree. The rice was decent. The beans tasted like they had been in a refrigerator for several days. I ordered guisada based on a review that raved about it being the best ever. I've never had it before but it was not good. It tasted like Hormel canned roast beef and gravy with a little spice and way too much salt added. With less salt it would have been edible but not good. Just chunks of canned roast beef and gravy. (And maybe they made it homemade but it was not something worth ordering since there is a cheap canned product that tastes pretty much the same.) My husband ordered chicken mole. He's never had mole before but we were trying new things tonight. It was ok, not something either of us would order again. And like mine, his mole was almost too salty to eat. Everyone raves about the service. The waitress was ok. She took our order without a lot of chatter. She brought our food. She refilled our drinks once. But that is the bare minimum that you expect from a waitress. There is nothing about the service to rave about. Just adequate. Initially we planned to return for breakfast since that also got good reviews but we'll just have something at the hotel instead. Everything was so salty that it was barely edible but even without the extra salt I think it would have just been mediocre food in a run down scary setting. I'd advise everyone to avoid it. read more

Absolute BEST barbacoa I've had. Hubby said the Chile relleno was amazing. My son, who usually orders a burger anywhere we go, left zero food on his plate. He also had barbacoa. Authentic small town Mexican food hidden inside a hotel. The place was filled with locals, filled to the point of stressing the service. Although it took a little extra time to get served it was worth the wait. The prices were great and the food was good for a small town cafe type restaurant. read more

This place is whole in the wall. It's located in the middle of an small apartment day or week rental. it's right next to what looks like the office. But if you can get over the location you'll enjoy great whole in the wall food. Homemade flour tortillas and large servings made me glad I came here. But why didn't I give them a five star rating? Because the two cute sisters / waitresses were not very friendly and could smile a little more. Here's a second tip for the girls. Learn to be a bit more customer friendly. PS. I always go for the Chicharron plate no need to go anywhere else as it is hands down one of the best tasting and spicy enough plate that I don't have too. Just a hole in the wall as far as looks are concerned and to be honest I've only had a few of the plates the menu has to offer but ever since I tried the chicharrones I didn't eant to try anything else this is my go to place for such and if I could afford to eat out on a daily basis this would be the place but that not being the case I go as often as I can which isn't much but always the same. I rate the plate 5 stars maybe it's just me but it reminds me of when I was growing up in the countryside long ago and these types of foods were the ones prepared. If you like spicy and porkskins then this is the place for you. read more

Salsa tasted bitter like it had been out for over a day without refrigeration. The food was terrible the chicken enchiladas I ordered tasted like they had been frozen for months prior to being defrosted and served. I took maybe two bites and paid the ticket and left. Me and my wife both felt sick for the rest of the night. Turns out we had mild food poisoning from this sorry excuse for a restaurant. Please don't waste your time I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Was recommended by a local and I highly recommend it. It's in a hotel. They bring out chips and two dips - green and red. The chips were really good. I ordered the carne asada tacos (#12). Whatever they marinated the meat in or however they seasoned it, it was wonderful, a little greasy, but full of flavor. The staff were very friendly and service was fast. The bathrooms are in a hallway between the hotel and restaurant and are not the cleanest. read more
