I got not even a hint of housing in 3 months I waited. I hired a social worker from outside of St. Mary's and I was brutally thrown out of "the program". There are worse things than being a homeless human being and this place is it.

Residents have to put a portion of their income away (to be held by Life Moves) in order for them to use their savings to obtain permanent housing in the Bay Area Community. They provide nutritious food and snacks, laundry privileges, bathrooms and showers, and even assigned beds (with outlets for charging devices) for their local residents. They also offer bikes that you can borrow in order to get around town, and they offer free toiletries, clothing, and shoes to residents. It's a fantastic organization that really does so much to help the community in the Bay Area. Non Profit Organizations, such as Life Moves: Julian Street Inn, truly make the world a better place. They provide so many amazing and deserving individuals with a warm, loving, caring, and comfortable place to stay, where they can go to live in peace, joy, and happiness. If you are homeless and in need, please do not give up hope. There is help for you and resources and many people why truly care about you, your life, and your health and well being! If you are homeless and looking for shelter in the Bay Area, you will need a referral from a case worker in order to stay at Life Moves: Julian Street Inn. This program and organization is unlike any other I've seen or heard of. While being very structured in many ways such as lack of outside communication for most of 11 months, this allows the individual to step out from under the burden upon them, long enough to make the personal changes needed. The facilities are excellent, and the needs of the participants are well met. Religion may not be your thing, but if accepting God into your life helps reduce the anxiety, or other inhibiting factors, why not? If participants learn to think about their actions prior to acting, they learn to avoid problems, and get help when they recognize it on the horizon. Those are much needed skills today. The support shepherds gate receives from all the churches in the tri-valley area is nothing short of amazing! It is evident by the volunteer support the organization receives. This program has attendees learning coping skills necessary to live functionally in today's world. They help them develop computer skills. They help them interview for and get employment. They have access to every resource from sponsors to doctors and therapists. Attendees of the program seem very positive. Some refuse to play by the rules and are removed from the program. In the end this is a free 11 month program. Not because insurance is covering it, they don't charge. Yes that's written correctly. This is a program that gives the time needed to move to a new lifestyle, and have stabilization. I can't imagine what this would cost otherwise. When it seems like everyone's got an angle to rob you blind, here is the purest form of love and support. I had my reservations given its structure. But the feedback is outstanding.

They welded five trellises, removed palm trees and cleared out debris, completely transforming the space. On top of that, they created a beautiful surprise succulent garden in the work area, which was such a thoughtful and creative touch. Juan clearly has a strong eye for design. He was intuitive and knowledgeable about the flow of the yard, and it showed in every decision. The team took their time to make everything look just right, from artistically arranging the rocks to carefully weaving the climbers into place. Beyond the quality of the work, the entire team was friendly, polite, and respectful throughout the process. It truly felt like they cared about the final result as much as we did. Juan understands the bigger picture of what it takes to make a backyard install work well long term. He paid attention to the full system including trenching, irrigation layout, gas line installation for the fire pit, plant placement, lighting, and more, making sure everything worked together piece by piece. What stood out most, and why we ultimately chose him, was how genuine he was about caring for our yard plans after talking with several other contractors around the valley and East Bay. I work as a creative lead and tend to be very particular about design and visual decisions, so I was honestly surprised how little feedback I had during the process. Juan's instincts and design sense were strong enough that I ended up trusting him to run with many of the decisions. Juan is extremely hands-on and proactive, and you can tell he takes real pride in his work. Throughout the project he would point out adjustments that would make the yard function better and age well as the plants grow in. I attached a couple short clips that show parts of the process and the finished result. The yard came out clean, intentional, and extremely well designed. If you're looking for someone who can handle the full scope of a backyard project from design to materials to installation and genuinely cares about the details, Juan is the man!
