The list of items is staggering. Windows, doors, chandeliers, tiles, cabinets, furniture, tools of all sorts, manual and powered, massive to regular rugs, appliances. The real finds are the non standard items that show up. I have seen $5000 outdoor patio sets going for $500. $600 - Massive griddles with all the extra's for $150. It is wild what you can find here, if your timing is good. So this is why if I see the gate open, I stop and do a lap. read more

Found a whole 5 gallon bucket of white interior paint for $60! A fancy brand new shower head for $8! Quality of most of the materials here is used but in great shape, totally reusable. Value of the items I purchased for the price is 9/10, I would 100% recommend this place for someone looking for affordable material to fix up their home. To be honest i have gone here a hand full of times. The customer service is really not that good.the older guy answered questions in the most grumpy way like if your dumb or dont want your business. He must be related to someone that owns the place or thinks hes not replaceable. Never the less. I treated the person with respect. The girl who checks people out in the register. To be honest have felt uncomfortable around her. She is not too friendly. All my plan in going to that store is to buy something. My uncle and I came by here yesterday to look at an RV that was advertised on Craigslist for $800. Upon entering the store my uncle went up to the counter and kindly said " Hello sweetie, how are you" to the cashier lady. She gave him an offended look and responded with " ummmmm I'm good". Listen, just because someone calls you sweetie doesn't mean they want to in a lustful way. Don't flatter yourself! I could go further into this but I won't. Secondly we asked about the RV and if we could have look at it. We were meet with miss flattery asking " did you call to actually see the rv? We literally called 15 minutes prior to arriving and I don't see what calling has anything to do with seeing the RV. So we're told the door is open and to have a look. A little bit of kindness or a smile goes a long way but we were met with three grown people string at us as if we had 3 heads on each of our bodies. Very uninviting. After having a look at the RV we decided to see if we could buy it. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if the guy that owned the RV died in it. It was bad but fixable. My uncle asked one of the workers about the paperwork for the RV and the guy goes " we can't go lower than $800". Sir?! We asked about paperwork not price. So he gets on the phone with the owner and asks if they had the DMV paper work for the RV. Low and behold they have NO paperwork for the RV! So you basically wasted our time with driving down there! Why would I anyone buy an RV with no paperwork! Crooks! That experience as a whole was disgusting and they should be embarrassed all three in the store and the boss over the phone. . We love Habitat for Humanity Restores. It's good to support these great causes, save money and limit waste. It's hard to do in this Restore because it's just so terribly unorganized. Prices aren't marked well. I was really unimpressed when I went in and was looking at some furniture and came back the next week to find that they doubled the marked price but had signs saying "50% off"... yeah, who do they think they're fooling. No thanks. Maybe it will be better when they move and can start fresh. read more

I really think this place is great . We don't have a lot of money and it is full of things you may need when starting out in an older house . Two things though... the staff were pretty darn unfriendly to my daughter and I ( seemed like just to us and not to the men who were around so you may be treated just fine ) and two ..there was quite a bit of glass on the floor in a couple of sections, to be expected I guess. I was interested in obtaining Paint... exterior Enamel Trim (3 gallons) and Latex Wall Paint (16 gallons) and a Bonding Primer (2 gallons) with assorted Paint Brushes, Paint Rollers, Sandpaper, etc to re-paint the exterior of my house. The RESTORE Home Improvement Outlet is the drop-off point for your excess construction materials (paint, moulding, tools... whatever) and the retail outlet that provides funding for Habitat for Humanity's good works home building / restoring projects and an outlet to sell off construction excess from their Building Projects. I did not really find what I want... the Paint was a hodge-podge of retail Paint company's returns, leftovers, discontinued colors, or bad mixes and donations from local residents. I talked to a Customer Service Rep there who complained about people that dropped off their Paint because it was illegal just to dump it in their trash pickup every week. If you're just looking for a Gallon of Paint or Lacquer or Stain for that small Project... this might be the ideal place at a price that can't be beat $2 to $5 a gallon! If you are restoring an old house, this might be the first place you should go to find that particular item that hasn't been made or seen for the last fifty years or so. For that style of Ceramic Tile or Wood Moulding that you just can't find anywhere else. Besides Construction materials and tools, there is a big room in the rear with donated appliances. Blinds, Window Shades, Tools, Toilets, Sprinkler Parts... and that particular Screw or Bolt that you can't find anywhere else. Locating this place was a pain... it's obvious I was not raised or am not familiar with Modesto. Outside of the malls off of Hwy 99, this is only the third visit of mine to this city. read more

Its a huge place with 2 different buildings(for appliances/furniture and for other Home Depot Type Stuff). The Home Depot is my favorite. They have so much in there. This location is rather dark and ominous inside, but there's a lot of stuff waiting for you. They have a separate building across the street which has lots of used furniture. The main building has lots of building materials. We go searching for tile for mosaic projects and have found different colors on more than one occasion. As with all ReStores, go there to look and hopefully you'll find something. If you go to look for something in particular, you probably won't find it. read more

I had no idea this place existed until my Dad told me about the Sonora location. I looked online and whoo-hoo found one in Modesto! We are re-doing our master bath so I've been living in the likes of Home Depot and Lowes. First off--the staff was very friendly and answered all my questions. Second...I just loved the hodge podge of different items....laid out very orderly considering the volume. The 'furniture/appliance' room was a bonus---was not expecting that at all. Fun stuff! BEST OF ALL....I needed some wood stain for a cabinet I had done 5 years ago. I love this place but I came in with my dad in good faith to donate some flooring and a white old man named Gary gave us the rudest customer service and make me want to look for a different place to donate all the extra materials I have.. keep in mind this place is we're we donate and give this place free stuff to be treated with such an attitude is very unpleasant and did not even offer to give us a receipted and to top it off he's super rude to all the employees and os ripping off customers charging them more for the products. Love this place! I thought it was only building supplies but they have so much more! I picked up some organic pest spray for a fraction of what it sells for at the hardware store. Lots of tile and things for small projects. It's a little dusty inside, but I think that makes it feel more like bargain hunting. The furniture store next door looks enticing... have not ventured that far yet. read more

This is the second time I have bought windows here. With just a little bit of searching through their large stock we found almost exactly what we were looking for. For 1/4 of the price of new stuff. One star for all the employees, or volunteers, who work hard, and are friendly and helpful. One star for finding that little gem that's useful/needed, and not priced at a million$$$$$, even though it's used and DONATED! I regularly donate good, re-sale items I no longer need/use, in hopes it will go to a household that could really use it, instead of piling up in Habitat's junk heap, making it nearly impossible for anyone to shop in their furniture/appliance annex. (I'm NOT referring to their original hardware store across the way)...I paid $125 bucks for a wood desk, used, beat up, at Habitat's furniture annex. They refused to come down on the price so I just bought the bullet, so to speak. Who prices the crap anyways???? I Quit shopping there, but still donate stuff just trying to be a good person... TRUE STORY: I saw an old headboard in the pile, NO price.....I was scared to ask, so I left it there. Returned months, maybe a year later, and the same headboard was under a huge pile of headboards, so I asked the price.....$75 bucks!!. They lost a $30 sale that day, and can keep piling up the crap for all I care! How does that place make any money ?? I called to complain, had to leave a message, no answer, no return call, same old BS down there. Again, I give two stars for all that works there, as I know it's difficult, but the powers that be need people in charge who know business and how to make revenue, not create a garbage dump! At the end of Feb. I visited the Modesto store on McHenry Avenue . I purchased two light fixtures and one ceiling fan with a light kit. I paid $150.00 for the three pieces together. Last week, my electrician who is a licensed electrical contractor arrived to install them. He started with the ceiling fan. He informed me that there was no mounting bracket in the box and it could not be installed. I said I would run down and buy a new fan while he put in the other two fixtures... When I returned with a new fan the electrician told me that neither one of the other fixtures worked either. Every time he tried to turn it on, the circuit would blow. When he put the old fixtures back, everything was fine!!! I took the 3 fixtures back today and they would not give me my money back... Out $150 and had to buy new fan and fixtures... I will never spend another dime there!!! Never ever!! Please beware!!! read more

We really liked this place when we discovered it well over a year ago. We found items at excellent prices... But the last three visits have been awful!! Their prices are ridiculous now... And these items are donated!!! We shop around for the best prices, we don't just wander into ReStore and assume they are giving us a deal. They were selling used cabinets for the same prices as new ones at Home Depot. I bought cabinet knobs there a few months ago for a project for about 25 cents a piece- cool, right? But when I returned for more for a new project I didn't think to ask if the prices went up. Imagine my surprise when the cashier rang me up for 2 dollars a piece! I said no thanks and went back to Home Depot for new knobs, which were 98 cents and $1.19. Don't assume you are getting a deal here! They are asking way too much. I would gladly come back if they rethink their pricing.. Come on ReStore, you can't price used, donated items for the same price or more than new items in commercial hardware stores! read more
