Just wanted to write a quick review on my experience at the Hafers gun shop in Hagerstown , started out good was talking to a salesman about a 6.5 cm rifle , he was very knowledgeable, and was asking about my price range and what I would be using it for , they didn't have one in my price range ,so we where still talking, I said I would try the falling waters hafers for one , and one of the other counter person , rudely, told his fellow salesman and me to take that stuff somewhere else , meaning the conversation! wish I knew is name , be really don't care , if he was the only one in the store I would turn around and walk out would never do business with that guy this is second time this has happened, really unprofessional, so needless to say some of your staff Mr Tim Hafer needs to show some respect, and not be so rude, but hay , it's ok , there are a lot other gun shops in the area , that would not be so rude and arrogant, o well just thought I would tell everyone my experience with Hafers guns in Hagerstown md! read more

I brought in my 44mag to get a factory sight put on. It had a leupold scope with it not attached. After months of calls and time after time promises of return phone calls that never happened., At this point I was just going to get my weapon back. When I went in, they told me they had it in the back and we're mounting my scope for free. When they brought out my 44 it had a bushnell on it. When I pointed out the mistake they argued with me treated me like I was being dishonest. I showed pics of the gun w/the leupold scope. After checking the security tape. The atmosphere changed because they knew they were the ones that were in the wrong. I was then invited to the back Gunsmithing area. It is a disaster area. It's a wonder that they can find anything in that mess! I was invited to see what a mess it was because that was the excuse for treating me like a criminal or a fraudster. In the end I did get back me original scope but it's really left me feeling violated because of their clutter and incompetence. read more

I took my fathers gun here to be serviced and to get some parts it needed. I let them know it was a birthday gift and needed it back in time. Staff said parts might not be in but they would have it put back together to present it to him. A day before his birthday i called and parts were not even ordered yet and the gun is still apart. I had nothing to give to my father. A month goes by not a word, I call and ask for an update and the gun is still apart but told it would be soon. Finally 2 months after dropping it off its done, I was quoted at less than 3 hundred. I understand how quotes work but when I get there it's 410, I'm willing to work with them so I tried negotiating down to 3, they would not budge. The owner came out and was extremely rude and hostile about it and took 10 dollars off...Really? Would not recommend anybody to this place not based off of the price and time but purely on how disrespectful the owner was treating my wife and I. read more

Hafers was recommended to me by a friend who deals with them regularly. I no longer will be taking recommendations from this person. I took my daughter in to pick out a new hand gun, but could not get waited on. After several employees walked by and could not be bothered to offer any kind of assistance at all. We left. The store only had one other customer while we were there. I can only imagine how the service would be if we had purchased something and then had a problem. This store has a great selection of everything firearm related. The staff is very nice and easy to talk to. They will help you every step of the way. I have never went in there and not found what I wanted. The only thing I can complain about is their prices it's a bit over the top but hey good work is hard to find. read more

Why would a self proclaimed "honest" businessman want to charge me to come into his store to review a security tape when I simply asked him to try to find a missing safety after my rifle was taken into his back room for inspection? I took a pistol in to be repaired and year and half later the repair was not completed. I understand due to COVID and other circumstance repairs are taking longer then normal, but a phone call once and a while to provide status or an expected date of completion would greatly improve their customer services. read more

I stopped by after visiting the range in western Maryland. Very impressive assortment of ammo and accessories. Staff very helpful.

In an area with poor customer service it should be very easy to excel. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Typical Hagerstown business. I am still waiting on an application to be submitted properly after four visits to the store. They seem to not understand. Of course it is somebody else's fault. They offer no real explanation nor do they show any real regret. And no real effort has been forthcoming. Just another quick phone call and pass the buck. I have nothing to show for the money that was spent. Be cautious. read more

Always helpful.. I like the fact that they seem to really want our business. The prices are very fair and they are always willing to special order something if they don't stock it. With that said, with the space they have I don't think they could do a better job of choosing the inventory they do stock. read more

Took a Firearm in for repair for a ejection problem. Not sure what's happening here but i get the rifle back and it doesn't even feed a bullet into the chamber. Why wouldn't a gunsmith tell his customer before he gives his firearm back that there's issues. Went in for a ejection problem comes back out and the rifle don't feed a single round. I know for a fact that they couldn't feed a round to even look at the ejection problem. I received no phone call to say, hey we found additional issue here just your bills $100. They just gave me back a non workin rifle, where's the customer service? I also know I gave them 6 rounds to start with because you can't find them anywhere and I only got 5 back. Hum I wonder if it's because they tried to feed a round in and the bullet went back into the casing???? this is what happened to me at home when I tried to feed it. I paid $100 for them to rebend the extractor when a new one online was $9.00 and in stock. I went I and spend $400 on a compensator to be put on my rifle and try to sell it after and they say hey your Headspace isn't good and it's not good. WTH you just put a compensator on the end And know your saying the rifle chamber is garbage. The customer service is just not there. If you do get anything fixed don't expect anything more than exactly what you say and don't expect them to look at anything. it's just crazy that the rifle don't feed and they say nothing about it and i pay for something I assume is fixed. Trust me find another gunsmith. read more

Great place. Found it while driving through one day. Now I drive 20 miles passing a dozen gun shops on the way to shop there. They are straight forward. They dont push opinions like some places when you want something different then most people. they just sell good products. As a veteran with a lot of firearm training it pisses me off at these other gunshops when some 20 year old with his 5.11 pants and hiking tacticool shoes trys to educate me on things. I come to spend money on what I want to buy and not someones unrequested opinion. Hafers rocks. They ask you one time if they can help you find something and get it for you or order it. Best experience shopping at a gunstore. I requested an uncommon item. They gave me a decent price but said it would have to be located. I got a call back 8 days later. They found it after two other shops said the item is rare and I would have to just check back. This is a good place to get what you need at a decent price. read more

Slow service on gunsmithing. Was given a 3 week time frame. Stopped in 5 weeks later and was told 2 more weeks. That was 4 weeks ago and still not finished. They might be nice guys and knowledgeable about guns but their gunsmithing service has a lot to be desired. read more

These guys may have experience building guns, but certainly not in running a business. I went to Hafers to buy a buffer tube assembly kit and when I got home, it was missing the castle nut and the end plate sling mount. I called and was told to come in and they would give me the missing parts. I used to live in hagerstown but now live in Pasadena so it was not a short trip. I drove back up and instead of giving me the missing parts, they told me they could only refund my money because I was "undercharged" anyway. How is that my fault? All I wanted to do was finishing putting my AR together. When they refunded my money and I checked my account, they did not add I the taxes so I was shorted $5 on the refund. I would strongly suggest finding another gun smithing store to do business with! read more

On 5/27/2017 my wife purchased a Sig Sauer MPX Handgun for my 61st Birthday. Due to her linited knowledge of firearms she made the purchase though a reputable on-line retailer with good reviews. The next day she received an e-mail stating her order would be delivered to the closest participating dealer of Sig Sauer Products (Hafer's Gunsmithing) where I could go, Complete the required paperwork and take delivery of the handgun. On Monday May 29th she received a phone call from Tim Hafer President of Hafer's Guns. He informed her that he had that specific Handgun in stock and could sell it to her at a reduced price from what she had paid on line. He said he could facilitate a full refund of her deposit (500.67) from The Shooting Store where she had purchased the handgun but would need a deposit on the handgun he had in stock if she wished to purchase it (A deposit of 1000.00 was taken by Mr Hafer over the phone. On June 5th my wife and I visited Hafer's Guns to complete the transaction. It had been many years since I last Purchased a handgun and I was surprised to learn I not only had to pass the Federal Background check but also posess a permit from the Maryland State Police. The Salesman said the State Permit could be secured in about a month and provided instructions on how to proceed. He then said the balance of the purchase would have to be paid before we left (1014.00) My wife paid the balance in cash and we went home. When we arrived at home I asked my wife for the copy of the reciept for the payment she had made. She then informed me that she was not provided with a receipt from the original 1000.00 deposit or the 1014.00 payment she had just made on the handgun. I submitted my application to the Maryland State Police for my HQL (Handgun Qualification License) and waited. On June 13th my wife reached out to Mr. Hafer about the status of her original 500.00 deposit that she had made initially to order the handgun from The Shooting Store that Mr. Hafer said he would have returned (no response) On July 5th my wife e-mailed Mr. Hafer to request a copy of her receipt. (no response). After 2 months waiting for my Handgun Qualification License I reaches out to the Maryland State Police about it's status. I was told they had no record of my application or my fingerprint admission although my application fee had been charged. (They said re-apply) Dismayed by this I decided not to purchase the handgun. I then requested a refund of my deposit was informed that all sales are final as stated on the receipt. (never provided) and I would be subject to a 25% re-stocking fee. I contend that the practices of Hafer's Guns are Un-Lawful, Preditory and Deceptive as I was denide a copy of the receipt and charged for a product I never ordered or took delivery of. read more
