Excellent tailoring. We've used Hage for decades and always found them to be experienced, careful, and pleasant to deal with.

The tailor is excellent. Recently she's worked on everything from a chair cover with a very thin material, and fixed it with material on a matching pillow to a pink jacket that had started unraveling when I caught it on a door screen. read more

DO NOT COME TO THIS TAILOR SHOP! RACIST, RUDE, and KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT TAILORING This tailor shop is one of the worst I've been to in my life. The person who owns and tailors the place is extremely rude when you walk in and doesn't measure you for alterations. When giving her 2 of my suits and one coat I asked for a sleeves reduction and a waist release. The turnaround time was quick however the job that was done was extremely bad. The waist was released too far to the point where my pants are sagging. the hem on my pants were don't poorly because she didn't even mark where to cut. The sleeves were the worst part. She cut from the bottom instead of the top therefore the buttons were right against the edge. It was one of the dumbest thing a tailor can do to a suit. I would've expected her to at least know what a suit should look like. I attached pictures for the poor stitching and hems. read more

I would give these people zero stars if I could. Extremely rude and condescending attitude. Pants over 1 inch too long, suit pants tight despite plenty of fabric to let out, both the suit jacket and blazer were too long in the sleeve. All this and very expensive, on top of it. The best thing about this place was the beautiful Akita that was present. I couldn't have done any worse if I'd asked the dog to do the work for me instead of the person I dealt with. read more

A dying breed, this long running family business is a great asset in our community. These people are hardworking and reliable and have a tough manual job. I have been using Both Cortland and Ithaca locations for over 2 decades and have never had anything less than satisfactory service and great craftsmanship. Are they always cheery and offering you a cup of tea while you wait? I don't really care about that. They are busy people trying to make a living the hard way with a skill that's been in their family for generations. I want great work at a fair price and that's what I consistently get from them. If I could I would give this place ZERO stars. I needed to get a bridesmaid dress taken in about two sizes. I go in for a fitting and the tailor charges me $65--but all he did was take in about an inch under the armpits, hem it, and attach the straps! and what he did take in wasn't even done well! I tried to tell him that this wasn't what I wanted--that I wanted the dress fitted, and he then proceeded to yell at me about not knowing what I want and being a pain in the ass and that he can't fit the dress to me bc it's too big. I nearly left in tears I was so furious. I ended up going to a tailor/dry cleaners in Staten Island where my dress was tailored perfectly to my body--for $30!! Try one of the places on State Street if you need something tailored; just steer clear of this place! read more

So unbelievably angry. I paid $125 for a hem and now the dress is too short! And, there's a stain on the bottom. Terrible, terrible job. I took this dress in as a desperate last resort. Stick to other places in town. Hours might not be as consistent, but cheaper and MUCH better quality. read more

Wow. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I ever had. I dropped off a suit which was going to cost me $80 to tailor (lengthening sleeves is an expensive job) and expected to get what I paid for. When I returned to pick up the suit, she had not tapered the pants like we had discussed and had made the break far lower than what we had agreed upon. She proceeded to explain that we never discussed tapering the pants and then yelled at me when I showed her that she had charged me for tapering on the receipt. I ended up having to wear the suit to an interview with baggy, untapered pants only returning to her to fix them because I convinced her to do it free of charge (she tried to charge me an ADDITIONAL $20). When I finally got the pants fixed, she still did a poor job! I can't believe I wasted so much time and money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Poor quality work, worse customer service...this lady inspired me to join yelp just to give her a bad review. read more

Poor quality, worse service. Dropped off three coats to be repaired and was told they would be ready by the following Tuesday. Arrived Tuesday afternoon and one item was completed, one was incomplete (but returned to me as though it were finished), and the third was 'still at the cleaners'. When I came back for the third coat, it had been shoddily repaired (the new stitching was uneven and poorly finished) and I had to take it back in to get the work redone. They blamed their own destruction of part of the jacket's lining on the cleaners (who they picked and who also did a poor job). The work on the other two jackets was similarly amateurish. And the prices were ridiculous. I was charged $50 to shorten (admittedly heavy) coat sleeves that took three returns to the shop to complete. I was charged $20 to repair a pocket that was also completed poorly. On top of this, the customer service could be described as brusque at best; I assume that the person who helped me is an owner--she was rude, unapologetic, and unhelpful. Avoid this place. read more

I'll tell you right away this place is great. If you need more proof, check Yelp's filtered reviews. I tried a few tailors/alterers in Ithaca and none wowed me, until I met Cathy. She's going to be direct with you about what can and can't be done and how long it's going to take, but she and her family at Hage Tailor will follow through with their promises and make you happy at a good price. Now I've had three suits and six jackets fitted -- some in need of serious alterations -- and I regularly get compliments on how well they fit. I prefer a bit of a shorter cut on the jackets than Cathy does but she performs as a professional and alters them beautifully. The fact that I can also get excellent dry cleaning at the same place is a terrific bonus! I'm officially a huge fan and highly recommend Hage Tailors to all of my friends. read more

As stated before, 0 stars better rating. They can not do a fitting to save their lives. I got a bad fitting tux for my wedding, was able to find another tux to be overnighted and they still charged me for the tux I never used. I am glad to say I have convinced 3 wedding parties use other places. read more

I googled for a shop that could handle leather alterations and Hage came up. I took my new leather jacket there to have the sleeves shortened. Cathy rushed me through a fitting and told me to come back on the following Monday. When I came back on Monday the jacket had not been done and Cathy asked me to come the following day. I returned the next day and was surprised to find the poor job she had done on my jacket. The new stitching line wandered back and forth over the original stitching line and in a couple of places the stitching wasn't finished. When I questioned her about this, she replied that the problems could not even be seen from where she was standing (6 feet away). My personal opinion of quality is that if it doesn't look professional from close examination, it isn't. Her's is apparently that is was good enough. Hopeful that the damage could be repaired, I asked around for another place that does leather work and took my jacket to Angelo's where a lady comes every Saturday to pick up leather work. She told me that because of the unconventional way the cuff had been cut before reattaching it, nothing could be done to repair it without risking making it worse. The bottom line is that my $500 jacket has been ruined. I would not recommend Hage Tailor Shop for leather alterations and given the rush job and good-enough attitude, I don't think I would trust any other kind of work to them either. read more

After all of my years of shopping, having clothing made and crying about it, Hage Tailor has finally made me love the way I look. Their craftsmanship is fabulous. I've had several items made and I am very pleased. All were of top quality and the workmanship and detailing is par excellent. The fit was so custom I felt like I was wearing Couture clothing. I probably won't ever go into a store to look for that special something as long as Hage Tailor is around. Kathy is the best and she understands me as a person. My wedding is just under a year away, but I wanted to make sure that my dress was ready to go. After calling around, I was barked at by other tailors who told me to "call back in May!". However, Hage Tailor brought me in and made a point of working on my dress in a timely fashion. The dress was my mother's, but I needed it to be let out a bit. There was no fabric to be let out! Hage made it happen with a few pieces of matching material. Now I get to wear my mom's dress next June! The job was done beautifully and for a reasonable price. I would give this place zero stars if I could! My son was measured here for a custom suit to be made for his brother's wedding. When the suit arrived, it was too small! I remeasured my son, and the measurements given to us were off by 4-5 inches!!! I called to complain, and person was very rude, told me next time to do the measurements myself if I thought I could do it better, and to not come back again! Now I paid for a custom suit that is not returnable and does not fit! If you are smart, you will stay far away! Wish I had read the other reviews here first! read more

I discovered Hage Tailor Shop after a bad experience with another tailor in Ithaca. I had brought my dress to this other tailor about a month before the wedding. When I finally was able to pick it up, it was only a week before the wedding, so you can imagine the stress I felt when I tried on the dress and found that the silhouette of my dress was no longer symmetrical and would certainly stick out in pictures with the other bridesmaids. It was horrible and I had to scramble to find someone who could fix the dress in only 4 -5 days. Luckily, I found Hage Tailor Shop!! They were able to fix my dress and did it in time for the wedding. I had a wonderful experience there and I highly recommend Hage Tailor Shop to anyone looking to get alterations done in Ithaca. read more
