After doing some research we found Go Ride A Wave. After easily booking online we arrived at the shop and met the staff. They were happy and friendly and made me feel comfortable. Becky took us out with 2 others and taught us about the beach, currents and etiquette. After a short and educational instruction on the shore we headed out. Becky was amazing and helped us catch our first waves. She pointed out what to look for and taught us what to do. I caught so many great waves and had a blast. I would definitely go back again. Thanks for great memories and encouragement. I always felt safe in the water with Becky around.
Want to learn to surf in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment? Look no further!…read more I'm not even sure where to begin! The shop is easy to find in Torquay and street parking is easy. The staff are relaxed and nice, and will help you find a good wetsuit (if the water's a bit cold like when I went.) It is an easy stroll to the beach from HQ, and the on-sand demos and instructions make sense. Once in the water the instructors spend good time with you in a group lesson and make sure it's not frightening. It wasn't scary at all, and I met some nice girls in my group who I'm now friends with in Melbourne. I've been to other surf schools where it felt competitive and I was afraid to ask questions, and I didn't get that here at all. I felt encouraged, and even when I was tired staff kept me motivated. Initially I felt like a fish out of water, by the end I felt like a fish flying over the water. I became a lot more comfortable in the ocean and loved the feeling of riding a wave (okay, it was whitewater- but still, it was a beginning!!) Rad place to go- get the stoke with this crew in Torquay!

Someone told me about Bumps a while ago but it was only last winter that I decided to venture here. Since I'm just a beginner on the slopes, it really didn't make sense for me to buy my own ski's so renting has been the only option. Even though they were really crowded and busy the day I went in, the sales staff were really attentive and helped us choose ski's, ski boots and gear, while helping us save some money by suggesting alternatives. They also gave us really good advice about layering and keeping warm (and cool indoors) which cam in really useful when we actually got to the slopes. All I can say is, with Bumps, I can't wait for next winter!

I was all set to go for the duck, when I saw an English Parma on the menu; which came topped with mash, bacon, cheese and gravy. It was one of those days, so I went the Parma. And what a delight it was. My partner uncharacteristically ordered a beef burger. She did not stop talking about it the entire time! I tried it and it was very tasty. The wait staff were friendly, the food was quick, and the atmosphere great. There was a range of meals too. They catered for those "pub" meals, and but also had a great selection of classier meals and great desserts. I've eaten at a lot of over priced pubs/clubs that I'd never go back too. This place had a good range of prices and was great. Neither of us could finish half our meals, so we asked the waiter and we took the rest home. No reason to over eat! I'd go back in a heart beat.

Tucked in beside the Jan Juc shops, The Beach Hotel is a pretty good quick-stop for lunch or dinner. Their parmas are enormous, and tasty... and they have a number of different types to keep things interesting. The kids menu is not very expensive, and they will also make a point of getting the kids food out first so they can then go for a run and play in the kids room with the sides and stuff. Not too shabby for a local. Not the best, but pretty consistent. Worth a look-see if you're in the area.

Well you guessed it, the scrambled eggs were delivered not as ordered but on top of the fruit toast. Who in their right mind would put the scrambled eggs on top of fruit toast? Ever after it was specified on the side. Well you might think that mistakes happen, and you would be right, so my wife went up to the counter to point out the error and spoke to a senior employee, pointing out the error, she huffed and snatched the plate without even apologizing. Well eventually her breakfast came out, the same senior staff member huffed and said "Is everything alright now?" We said yes, and would you believe it she then said "Thank God". How incredibly rude, when travelling you really don't need such an attitude, plenty of pleasant places to eat without an attitude. Won't be going there again.

Someone has taken some serious time out to design the feel of this place. Loving rolling ceiling, soft lights and lots of natural light flowing in. The service here is fairly hispter. Lots of casual, well sun bathed staff who are generally rather helpful and happy. The cafe is spilt into three sections. Large seating, small foodstore and a deli style display cabinet/juice bar. The foodstore doesn't hold much. Usual coffee, tea, sweets, vegan prepackaged food and fresh veges. The menu here is short and sweet. Boasting a bountiful brunch style menu. The burgers are huge. Ridiculously large. One member of our party couldn't finish her vegetarian burger. There's no fries on the side, and all for good reason. I was mildly sadden by my chorizo and bean dish. It was tasty and had a perfectly poached egg on top. It was rather on the bean dry side of life. I'm not sure were the capsicum/tomato sauce was meant to be. If it hadn't been for this small sadness it would have easily been a 5 star venue! Drinks wise I was super impressed. The mango frappe I had was utterly divine. The OG beans used in the coffee equally as impressive.
