On arrival we were ushered into the restaurant without a pleasant greeting to a tiny table in the middle of the room. We started with a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini. Very well made and perfect to start of our meal. We ordered char-grilled South African style Lamb Sosates on a skewers, served with sour cream & chilli. These were delicious and were exactly how I remembered them! Next came our main dish of Cafe Americain 'Tajine De Poulet' - a Moroccan tajine of chicken, orange and honey with apricots. This was also delicious served with couscous and rice. Now to the most expensive dish on the menu, the Mozambiquan Tiger Prawns Piri Piri. What a disappointment! The tiniest prawns that were chargrilled and tossed of the plate with chips and a few strands of greenery. For the cost this dish was terrible. To finish our dinner we're ordered the Chocolate Cake (Torte de Negro). This was moist and very rich served with edible rose petals and ice cream. The food was good except for the prawns. What spoilt the night was the lack of service given and the old Radio Cairo atmosphere is gone.

I might have felt better if I was being sponsored to eat it with some of the bill going to charity! Don't get me wrong the restaurant is quirky and exotic; dragging influences from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean which is a truly refreshing change in the land of the ubiquitous Thai but if you're veggie or fish and chicken only this could be a tricky place to dine. A large bar centres the room and there's lots happening in the restaurant and the curious décor to keep bean eaters entertained though. Double dessert might be the way forward.

Mussaman curry is to die for, red duck curry is unbelievably smooth and rich, whilst the mixed seafood pad thai is always a favourite. They even have my favourite stoner food - deep fried banana and ice cream! I know Australians love Thai food, hard to see why not when restaurants such as Thai Tucka are around for us to enjoy!
