Haig has been cutting, blow-drying and styling my hair for more than 30 years and I have never had anyone do a better job! I travel 45 min. (each way) for his services, and am always amazed how he makes my wavy and unruly hair look red carpet ready. And the absolute best part is that every blowout lasts until I need to wash my hair next. I even convinced my husband to have his hair cut by Haig and he, too, is now a loyal client who is impressed by the time Haig takes with him and the precision of the haircut. Dottie is the best blonde colorist in Philadelphia. Hands down. I went to Bobby Mack before, which is trendier, but the color was just terrible - dull and brassy. Dottie is truly a pro who understands how to transform dark hair into a bright, beautiful blonde without damaging it. read more

Christie Caruso (Bonetti) has been doing my hair for years, I have followed her from many a salon before she found a nice comfortable place in Haig & Co. I'm giving Christie 5 stars, I have not had any other service performed at Haig. I go for Christie, she is THE BEST. I have sent several people to her, they all love her. Her Great Lengths are AMAZING. She does fantastic color and is very creative. If Christie left Haig I would follow her. The salon itself is nice enough, but like another review said, it does seem like its always "under construction" again, I go for Christie ONLY. I love chatting with her about makeup and all things beauty, she can do some beautiful makeup too...5 stars for Christie! 3.5 for the Salon. read more

I went to Alex at Haig salon for Japanese Hair Straightening. Here are the highlights: -The straightening was done very well. My hair went from frizzy & curly to poker straight. -Very expensive: $780 which was non-negotiable (I tried) -Nice, professional atmosphere. -Alex knows what he is doing, but is very blunt. ex."Any hair color is better than the one you have now." This review is for Alex Baraz at HAIG salon for the Japanese straightening. If you want someone who is rude and extremely manipulative, then this is the guy you can hand over almost $1000 dollars to. Alex had the nerve to basically give me an ultimatum that he would not straighten my hair if I had my hair color done elsewhere. It's not even like I came in with a bad color, was contemplating starting color. I get this is a delicate process but customers should not be given an ultimatum. This place seemed kind of hip so I thought I would try it. I went there for a year. During that time I learned that it is a salon that went bad and revamped itself. The inside is pretty cool however it always seems to be under construction. It isn't that hip though. OMG in Gladwyne is hipper. The staff at Haig although nice at times is laid back and sometimes unprofessional: using cell phones, doing their hair, doing their make up, and just hanging out. If you do choose to go ask for Mr. Haig (owner) to do your hair only. He does a quality job, although pricy. As the others are too busy hanging out and may either miss your appointment or overprocess your hair because they are too busy with their personal lives. Cheers! Ann read more

I've been going to owner Haig and his salon off of City Line Avenue, in its different iterations, for more than 10 years. I began going to him after tiring of traveling to NYC (AKS, Warren Tricomi, etc.) for haircuts and he's the only stylist in the Philadelphia area I've found who consistently is of the same or better quality as I've had in NY. He charges NY prices, but at least I don't have to travel as far to look good! ;-) The best thing about Haig's cuts is that they grow out beautifully so you don't HAVE to constantly return for trims. Haig still gives the best cut in Philly. He is great, laid back and gives a wonderful cut. He doesn't rush - always spending an hour with me for a cut. I read the other review and wanted to provide some context. I have been coming here for nearly 15 years. The salon split up its professionals a few years ago, but I think it's better than it used to be - less stuffy. GIve Haig a shot for a cut. Everyone always stops and asks where I get my hair cut. Alex Baraz did my Japanese hair straightening. And I was waiting to write a review for some time to see how it will be in a long run. So the procedure took 4 hours, my hair is a shoulder length. After 4 hours hair was immediately straight and absolutely amazing. I didn't know what to expect later, but it has been 4 months since the procedure and it is still straight. I know my hair will grow curly at the roots, and I will need a straightening done on my roots in a few months. If your hair grows quickly you need to do a touch up more often, my hair grows slowly, so I don't need it that often. Anyway, I'm very happy with this straightening and love my hair. read more

I have never written a review before but have never had such a bad experience as I had with Alex Baraz's japanese hair straigtening. I am aware that i have a very complex style of hair to straighten because i have brown hair with blonde highlights and there are many different colors in my hair. When i went to see Alex he explained to me that because of this he could not guarantee that my hair would be 100% straight in the highlighted spots; that it may only be 60-80% straighter. He also said the minimum it would be would be $985.00. I explained to him that i had the same hair color and would get the japanese hair straightening done by Tommy Manness in Salon Oggi in Ft Lauderdale Fl when i lived in Fl and the results were always extremely satisfactory and i was able to reduce my styling time by not having to use a flat iron and i could even let my hair dry as i did not need it to be as flat as it would be when blow dried. It was also only $600. He arrogantly said to me that it could not have been japanese straightening that i had done before and it was keratin and that i could choose to leave but only himself and one other man in california would be able to take on straightening hair like mine and i would also be wasting his whole day if i left. I explained my whole purpose of getting the straightening done is to reduce my styling time and he said it would reduce the time but def not be able to be air dried. I also said how much more than $985 could it be because that is already ridiculously expensive and he said just a drop more, whatever that means. I decided to do it bc i read such good reviews about him but the end result was i am extremely unhappy, and he charged me $1080.00. He also cut my hair which i made clear i did not want unless he absolutely had to. He said i should put layers in my hair which i def did not want but he went ahead and did anyway. Now i have frizzy ends that are way frizzier than before the treatment with layers that i hate and so now i have to blowdry my hair, flat iron it, and then put it up in a bun bc i hate the way it looks down. He told me i should have short hair when ive had long hair my entire life and i like it that way. He criticized my highlights saying no one has done foils in ten years. Well guess what, i liked my hair the way it was, just wanted it to be less frizzy when it dried. If you want to be told what to do with ur hair then go to him bc he only likes to do what he wants, not what u want. In his opinion, he is more knowledgeable about hair and so he knows best. I dont think he realizes it is an opinion, and the clients opinion is what matters. He is condescending, arrogant, rude and overpriced. If you want a good hair straightening, pay for a plane ticket to florida and go to Tommy Manness. You will save yourself money and the trouble. read more

I had the worse experience at Haig & Co hair salon today. I called a couple of weeks ago to schedule an appointment for a hair cut. (I have short hair). On their website they have a number to call for pricing and appointments. I asked the associate who made my appointment the price for a regular hair cut and blow dry. She told me it was $150.00 with this particular operator. I agree and made the appointment. I went today, I met the man, I brought pictures of how I wanted my hair. He told he did not like one of the pictures, he cut my hair the way he wanted. My hair was short so it was not much to cut but he shaped it nicely and soon I was ready to go. It was not what I asked for but I figure I'll work with it. Then, he went to speak with the receptionist and when I got to the desk to pay she said it was $180.00. Of course, I also gave a $20.00 tip to the girl that wash my hear (for all 3 minutes) she was nice though. However, I was speechless! what made it $30.00 more than what they quoted? And why would they quote prices if they are not going to honor them? I felt scammed by this salon. I will tell everyone and report it to the appropriate consumer agencies. It sounds like they have arbitrary prices depending on whether they like the customer. To top it off, when he walked away from the chair, he told me that my lipstick was the wrong color. Could he possibly have been more rude. As anyone can see, I pay high prices for hair cuts, I agree to the $150.00 but I certainly did not appreciated being taken advantage of, Mr. Anatoly Farber. read more

If there was a zero star option I would've given it. So, let me explain why. My sister and I went to this salon quite a few years back to get japanese hair straightening treatments with Alex Baraz after hearing many good things about the salon. Boy, were we mislead! The treatment itself came out fine but it ended up costing much more than what was originally agreed upon. But the real problem was with the stylist. Alex was rude, condescending and arrogant. When we were asked to fill out paperwork for the start of the process Alex criticized my name saying that "it was too confusing" and that I should change it. Then, to make things even worse he became livid and yelled at my 15 year old sister because she forgot to mention that she had gotten a hair treatment earlier in the year, which is apparently bad for your hair. Lastly, when my mom came to pay for our treatments he insulted my mom's haircut and recommended that she straighten her hair. It was RIDICULOUS! To this day I still cannot believe how people as terrible as Alex Baraz survive in a customer-oriented business. It was the worst experience I've ever had in a salon in my life, and I hope I can prevent this situation from happening to others. read more

I had gotten a Japanese Straightening with Alex Baraz, first off he ended doing a very good job with it .... but he is the most arrogant man I have ever come in contact with. He is very bossy and hypes himself up WAY too much acting like he is the only person in the world that can straighten hair.(Wouldnt stop talking about how difficult my hair was/made me feel like a p.o.s) At the time of my appointment he was doing another girls straightening and kept me waiting multiple times for over 30 minutes each time(Didnt get into chair and started the process until atleast 40 minutes after my appointment was scheduled for), worst experience ever would not recommend overall due to his attutude and ignorance. ***Refer to review by Amy S. from 2013 becuase I wish I could have seen it beofre I went to him becuase I can very easily relate. read more
