We wanted a photographer who was very familiar with civil ceremonies at City Hall and was able to capture the day in a classic and genuine way to capture the joy of the big day. Katherine sent frequent emails with updates and tips on how to prep for the day and we had a preliminary call where we were able to make a schedule and plan out the day since we also had a wedding photoshoot afterwards in Golden Gate Park afterwards. During the day of, Katherine was on-time, flexible with when the other people in our group arrived, and guided us through the whole morning with when to check in, where to take photos, etc. She gave us some prompts of how to pose but overall she let us be natural and encouraged to be comfortable in front of the camera. The ceremony was captured beautifully by her and she took great group photos. We then went to Golden Gate Park, and she helped us take some cute coffeeshop and park photos, even with some bonus tennis court and piano pics (two of our favorite hobbies!). After the day, we received a sneak peek very promptly with an awesome of photos (~100 of them!) and a huge full gallery in about a month with lots of gorgeous film photos. There was a huge heat wave that weekend in San Francisco, and Katherine made the whole experience so pleasant and working with her felt like working with an old friend. We met with Jocelyn Voo over Zoom before moving forward with working with her for our special day as our photographer and our witness. Jocelyn was absolutely outstanding for more reasons than one. Firstly, we felt that she really "GOT" us, from start to finish. She listened to our vision (dark, moody, candid, casual, gritty) and as wild as some of our ideas were, she totally leaned in and delivered exactly what we were looking for! Secondly, when you're eloping just the two of you, having a third person present is intimidating; what if it's awkward? What if the vibes are weird? But Jocelyn was an absolute joy to spend time with! I'd go so far as to say that her presence made the day even more special. She asked us about our love story, she joked around with us, and seemed genuinely interested in who we were as people. This also impacted the photos, as you can see how comfortable we are and how much fun we're having. Third, Jocelyn is an expert at her craft, although not pretentiously so. Her website offers so much guidance on how the elopement process works. Her emails with us gave us contacts for who to reach out to for certain steps (We took pictures in the lobby of the Beekman and had to have permission granted; something we certainly wouldn't have known!) Not only did we consider Jocelyn our photographer, but our guide in the process of eloping. She also is an expert in that her photo-taking does not appear obvious! I was worried about having professional pictures taken of me in public, but onlookers barely noticed as Jocelyn very naturally pulled her camera out and snapped pictures. If you are eloping in NYC, there is simply no contest; Jocelyn at Everly Studios is your photographer. I loved the representation of their work on their website and felt like they would be able to capture the types of images my husband and I were interested in. I put in a request online for information and heard back within 24 hours from Trina. She called me to answer questions and explain their packages. This phone call immediately set her apart from the other photographers I had reached out and I appreciated the phone call as opposed to a form email or the reiteration of website language into an email. Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, we weren't able to work with her for the maternity shoot but as my due date approached I made sure to contact Trina and schedule our newborn session. This is where she won me over all over again. In our conversation, Trina explained to me in detail how the shoot would work and what to expect. I felt immediately at ease when she explained that sometimes the shoots are challenging and if we faced any challenges with the baby, not to panic, she would reschedule to come back on another day. I thought this was amazing and showed her understanding of how to work with her subjects as well as how to manage new parents. She booked two dates with me in accordance to my due date and we planned to be in touch when I delivered. For the shoot, Trina came to our apartment (her suggestion and no extra cost) which helped us tremendously since the baby was only 6 days old! She was just as lovely in person as over the phone - very professional, careful, respectful and so gentle with the baby. She brought with her some props and a backdrop so once we decided on our set ups, we were able to start the shoot. I can't express enough what a pleasure she was to work with. My husband and I both felt totally comfortable with her energy - her skill set was obvious in her handling of the baby and when we needed breaks, she almost seemed to disappear to give us privacy and time to soothe the baby. I knew as the shoot was happening that the photos would be phenomenal because of how relaxed we all felt. Our proofs came exactly 2 weeks after the shoot (as promised) and they did not disappoint. Trina captured some of the most amazing images of our family. I truly loved them all. We are beyond thrilled with our experience as well as the results. WOW! Wow! Wow!…read more There are a LOT of maternity and baby photographers out there, but so much of what is offered is pretty cookie cutter. Monkey's and Peas really stood out! And boy are we glad we went with them. What they managed to capture of our family and our daughter was a really intimate view into our lives and her tiny magical world. All of the photos are just drenched in lovely ambient light and have a really dreamy cast to them that qualifies this time of our lives and our baby's. " of course she is then a little sad that she is fighting with her man, but they made up again and I joke that they need to have some photograph taken so they feel all mushy and good inside as well.
