I am a first time customer and Elena completely blew my expectations. I found her after seeing so many positive reviews on Facebook and she did not disappoint. She was incredibly friendly and made me feel comfortable and welcome from the moment she introduced herself. I went in with dull, previously coloured hair and asked for a balayage. She got right into it. The entire time she was colouring she carried on a great conversation that made the time pass easily and comfortably. The outcome was fantastic and I was so surprised how light she was able to lift my hair without damaging it. It feels soft and light and I've received so many complements. The salon is a cute little space that is cozy and nicely decorated. Good atmosphere to wind down in and relax while getting pampered. No harsh lights, just nice soft lighting and comfy chairs! Very disappointed in this service. I was pleased after exchanging emails with the owner on my hair and the service I was looking for. I arrived to find that the owner who I had an appointment with was applying foils and consulting on how much hair the other client wanted trimmed. She told me 5 minutes as she mixed new product. In no way would it take 5 mins to even take out the foils and rinse, let alone cut and dry/style. She didn't explain that she was running late and abandoned me in the darkens waiting room. There were no jr stylists or students to even set me up. She called and left an aggressive and defensive vm. I called her back and she yelled loudly enough that my partner could hear her from four feet away. She said she was running behind and was rushing to finish. I have no interest in a rush job on my hair. She said she finished just as a left, but didn't call me until later. She wanted to put the other client on the phone to defend her. She was unprofessional in the extreme, and I dodged a huge bullet. I'm grateful this happened before I let her anywhere near me with scissors. read more

I wanted a change from my dark hair now that I am older and seeing a lot more grey hair. I found Hair affair by a quick Google search, read the reviews and decided this was the one! Elena was so much fun to talk to and she listened to what I was looking for which was Carmel Blonde highlights with my natural brown base. She looked at my hair, offered her professional advice and away she went creating a look that far exceeded my expectations! I love my hair the cut perfectly suits me features and the colour is beautiful the tones are something I have asked numerous salons to attempt to create in the past and none of them have succeeded until now! Owner was so rude just because I cancelled my appointment a few times and requested to change it through email as she has no other employees to answer calls. She literally yelled at me via email, blocked me on Instagram (because I wrote a comment under a photo that I need an appointment) and cried about me not saying "thank you and sorry". Please woman, hire some employees if you are so worked up that you are going to whine about petty things and treat people like crap. read more

I was beginning to lose my hair from cancer treatment and my usual stylist was away. I found this gem by chance and will forever be grateful for the kindness and professionalism that Elena showed to me. Not only did she give me an amazing cut (even though it only lasted a week before I lost my hair), she refused to accept payment. She knew the cut was an in between cut (in between long hair and needing to shave it) but she still took a lot of care and time to make sure it was just right. I booked my appointment here because of the 79 reviews and 4.9 star rating. I thought it was a low risk, given I'm new to the area and needed a new hairdresser. Boy, was I ever wrong. I have the utmost respect for women in business, and look for reasons to boost them up. This business owner has been in the location for 5 years - but I have no idea how she's managed this. I booked my apt 10 days in advance. Upon arriving, it was just her and I. She explained it's extremely difficult to hire in the area, so she does not have any employees. I was understanding at this time because it was 1:1, and didn't make sense to have multiple people there to wash, cut and highlight when it was just her and I. I came for a full head of highlights, wash/cut/style. When she was nearing the end of my highlights, I had made a comment about how quickly she was able to get through my thick hair... about 2 minutes later, another apt walked in. I still had 2/3 of my apt left with her. She had no staff, which meant I had to sit alone with my highlights in, until I felt a burning sensation. She came over, leaving the other woman alone in the midst of a cut. She washed the colour out of my hair, soaking my sweater in the process, whilst commenting how 'my hair colours more quickly than others'. She then left me with soaking wet hair sitting at the sink, cold in my wet sweater for an HOUR. When she finished with the other client, I had told her that since I had been there for more than 3 hours already, I had to leave and had another commitment to attend to, and need my hair dried. I expressed that I didn't feel it was proper to charge me full price for a cut / colour and style when I only received the colour. I told her I'd like to only pay for the colour. She refused, and said it was a package. She told me all hair dressers double book and she wouldn't be able to stay open if she didn't do this. I disagreed with this given my experience, this is NOT a normal or proper way to treat your client. She didn't even get me a towel when my shirt was soaking wet, let alone the time of day to cut my hair. She did offer if I came back the haircut (which I already paid for now) would be eligible to redeem. Thanks a lot... I ended up going to another salon, receiving better service and getting the cut complete. It is one thing to have a sub par customer experience, but when I provided her the opportunity to make it right and not charge me for services I did not get, she was very adamant I had to pay for this entire package. I walked out VERY upset that I waited 10 days, spent more than 3 hours, and did not get even close to the full services that I was forced to pay for. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a salon, and with a business owner in general. Following this experience, she messaged me on facebook messenger to encourage me to come back and do the cut - after she had already raised her voice to me when she refused to only charge me for the colour. I will not support this business owner's poor choices and bad business. I cannot believe she had the audacity to raise her voice to me, argue and force me to pay for services I did not get. read more
