Its only been an hour or so since having it done but i am already looking at my diary for when i can book in again (around 4-5 weeks time). Believe me any embarrassment has now gone and I'm assured that if I keep up with it then it will be easier, quicker and slightly less painful (Hayley didn't mind my swearing). I will add tge pain is no reflection on Hayley, but it was my first time and my hair down there wasn't as trimmed as it could have been. Can't rate HRM enough!!

I arrived in my pumpkin carriage (better known as the Northern Line) and strolled down a very busy Long Acre which was jam packed with Christmas shoppers and tourists and found refuge from the madness in Rose Street. A quaint, quiet wee street with a slight Dickensian air to it. The small, independently run salon was a breath of fresh air from the faceless anonymity of the big chain salons I've patronised in the past. It was obvious from the outset that Rick knows about hair and he took a good look at mine and had good chat with me before whipping out the scissors. The result is that I'm now delighted that my hair no longer makes me look like Tina Turner circa 1990 and is very pretty, and I'm ever so pleased. Moreover I feel confident that should I ever have any further hair disasters or even small queries; I know exactly where to go. I will certainly be recommending the Rose & Crown to whomever shall listen and I will definitely be returning whether for a new do, colour, manicure or massage (yes, they do all that in one cosy wee place! Not in the same room, there are different rooms, obviously.) Staunchly recommended for those who find it difficult to trust hairdressers and for any hair catastrophes the personal touch here is hugely reassuring.

As an idiot student, I was looking to get my hair dyed a wacky colour. Popped in to the salon to ask advice and Rick took one look at me and said I'd need a better hair cut if I was going to dye it. Got to admire the honesty! From that point on and for the next 10+ years, Rick handled cutting my hair better than anyone else. I have quite curly and awkward hair (as a guy) and Rick managed to cut it in ways that didn't make me look like a complete idiot. This was something that previous hairdressers had somehow failed to accomplish. Even over the course of 10 years, I never felt that Rick got lazy or complacent when cutting my hair. He'd always be willing to discuss different styles as my hair changed over the years. His prices are reasonable, considering the central london location, and Rick himself is a top bloke. If you're looking for a recommendation for a good quality, unpretentious haircut in Central London, then I have no hesitation in recommending Rick and the Rose & Crown salon.

Strongly suggest that women/ men of colour steer clear of this place. I had arranged to have a pamper package treatment at this location. I arrived 25 mins early to my appointment. This is common in all of the professional spas I've been to, in arriving earlier that your set time to fill out paper work, have a tea and unwind. The receptionist was at her desk, and then opened the door. I explained I had a pre booked treatment. She asked me if I could leave and come back as it would be unsafe to leave me in the reception area as something could get stolen if I "let a stranger in" and she had to return to the treatment room. I asked if there was CCTV cameras, she said yes. At this point we had been going back and fourth and it was about 15 mins prior to my treatment. Her manager came out and explained it's there policy (although this was not highlighted in any of the documentation prior to my booking) and asked me to come back ten mins prior. I explained my battery had died on my phone to which the receptionist said it was not her problem. With almost 10 mins to my appointment it made no sense to me. I asked for and received a full refund. I could only attribute it to the fact that I'm a woman of colour and leaving me in the reception area for 10-15 mins could result in an arm robbery or me letting in a bunch of hooligans to steal there goods. I suggest if this is their policy to make it clear in each booking to arrive at their designated start time. It's all about tone and how you come across to people when it comes to customer service and the receptionist was extremely rude.

Everyone is very friendly and attentive. I had my hair cut by a lady called Erika and she made a fantastic job of my hair and has very gentle hands when washing and blowdrying. She really listened to what I wanted and made suggestions that looked great. I am so pleased with my hair cut. The other thing that I liked is that although there was a steady stream of customers, it did not feel loud, brash or crowded like many salons do and the ladies are interested in making sure you get a cut that you are happy with. Then halfway through filling it in it was snatched from over my shoulder by a lady with red hair saying "NO NO NO Don't do that anymore" and pointed to a side room. We went into the room together where I explained I would like to know some more about the IPL hair removal for my bikini line. She quickly rushed through everything told me to get changed and meet her outside. NO talk about price, No talk about what shape or exactly how much I like taken off, No talk general chit chat, NO manners. Just literally a test section and out. I felt like cattle. Such an awful experience. Going to a salon is meant to be relaxing and a treat, I felt worse after my visit then when I first arrived there.
