I have short hair due to recovering from chemo. I am trying to grow my hair out and asked for a taper so that the hair on top can catch up to the hair on the back of my head. Well, she took out her scissors and literally hacked my hair off and said I was done. She didn't try to blend it or hide the cut marks that are highly visible. I don't know if it can be fixed but this is devastating for someone who hasn't had much hair in a couple of years. I thought I made the right choice in salon but I don't think I did. read more

I guess it completely depends on WHO your stylist is...but my first attempt at this place with Ann was a disaster. After trying to make an appointment with an apparently a great stylist, Amy, and couldn't for month or so, I decided to give another MASTER stylist a try. I checked in on time and waited standing since the place was packed with no place to sit. I waited, and waited, and waited for about 40 minutes and started to see some of the people who checked in after me get service. I finally asked only to be told my stylist already left for the day. REALLY?? I checked in and waited patiently for 40 frickin' minutes. But the good news is that I remembered seeing someone leaving and I thought to myself, I hope it's not her...just from the very unprofessional look and attitude. I'll take this as a blessing in disguise that I didn't fall for yet another downfall by a bad stylist/colorist to ruin my hair! I'm sure if I was able to see Amy as I was recommended, my experience would have been different... :(((( read more

My experience with this particular hair cuttery has not been so good. I feel the "young" ladies that work there always tend to have an attitude. I don't know if its bc I'm black and my hair process is longer than most but I end up getting pushed off on some newbie. It seems they cater to the military with their quick $20 in n out cuts. Oh and the prices...they try to get you with EVERY charge. "You want a shampoo AND blow dry? That's this...oh you want curls? That's this." I'm like really? Today I'm working with a "master" stylist so I'm paying out the whaazoo for this and it better be worth it! read more

I arrived when they opened at 9 a.m. They got around to my hair at 9:30. Stylist actually seemed annoyed that I was there, little conversation mostly gestures and facial expressions. The haircut was ok. But, overpriced I thought for a man @ $17. read more

I seen stylist tonji Came in with brassy blonde hair asking for it to be toned and cut and was immediately told it was too damaged to lighten anymore and the best she could do was a light burnet color i asked could i do a dark blonde or honey color and she immediately said no so she set me up with the color escape package which was 74$ and included a single color cut blow dry and redkin chemistry treatment i agreed and we proceeded when she was finished i hated the color and the cut was extremely choppy i asked her to fix it numerous times until it was all the way to my chin and i couldn't handle anymore when it was time to pay she said my total was 220$ and when i asked why she told me all of these treatments she added into my damaged hair without informing me of any charges i was extremely upset and will never be coming back ! read more

I have to say that I have the best hairdresser in all of VA. Tina Pershing is amazing. She listens and works with you to make you look your very best. When I first moved here, I thought oh no I have to find a new hairdresser and I hate chains, but I thought what the hell I'll give it a try and I haven't went anywhere else. She is professional, funny and absolutely wonderful. She is up on the latest techniques and methods and will make you look your very best. read more

I usually go to the location in Chester and take my son to get his hair cut however I happened to be in Colonial Heights area. Let's just say when I went into the Colonial Heights location I felt like I was at dmv. They called him up and the woman "couldn't do his hair style and that she was too old and didn't know about these new styles" she then proceeded to yell across the room to ask another stylist if she could and that stylist said no. Then asked another Stylist who turned her head and said yea I'll do it but they need to wait. Extremely rude. I know not all the stylist there are like that but wow. You chose to be a hair stylist and if you don't know how to do certain styles there is certainly a better way to handle it than that. Will never go back to this location. read more

Today I walked in to get a hair cut at the shop in colonial heights. Ms. Mary cut my hair, and I have never had her before. She never mentioned a price before the cut; I go to hair cuttery to save money, and I always get the 18$ shampoo and cut. So of course, I'm assuming I'm getting the services I get every time I go! Today, I asked for just a trim, so the 18$ service; I skipped the shampoo, wasn't feeling it, and got just a cut. I spent less than 12 minutes in the chair, and when I got to the register she still did not give me a price. Only after putting my card in and setting a 20% tip did I see the price. It was 33$! For less than a 15 minute cut! And when I asked Ms Mary why she didn't feel the need to disclose the price would be high, she told me she is a "master stylist" therefore it was more expensive. She did not wear a tag or give any indication she was " a master stylist," like what does that even mean? Either way, the price nor her position were mentioned before I got in the chair. As far as I am concerned, she cut my hair as same as any other employee there would. This is not professional business practices. It is absolutely unacceptable to not disclose if a service will be higher than the prices listed on the service board. So, I paid my 33$, left no tip, and walked out steaming mad. I am extremely disappointed in my experience today. I feel completely taken advantage of. This has NEVER happened to me before. I will not go back. I go to hair cuttery to SAVE money, and while 10$ or so will not break the bank for me, it could for someone else. This was just so disappointing to me, considering I always go to the shop in CH, I have always paid the same price, and I always have a good experience. I will not come back. Absolutely unacceptable. And I was still given no clear answer as to why Ms Mary did not disclose that her services would be higher. read more

I absolutely loved my stylist, she was warm and caring. However I'm giving the service a 2 due how I was made to feel by another stylist. I didn't catch her name but she was a tall heavy sack African American lady that worked at the back of the salon near the dryers. I was in the salon for hours as I watched her interact disrespectfully and rough with an older client with a language barrier. She argued with the client when the client presented her coupon at checkout telling the client she wish she would've known about the coupon because she wouldn't have done her hair. After the client left she walked through the salon raising her voice that she felt hustled and gotten because the client had a legitimate coupon. I don't know if the race or language barrier played a part but it's definit descrination when you can refuse a client that has a coupon. I love hair cuttery and have been coming for months, but I warn everyone to stay clear of the heavy sack African American older woman because she is really rude and mean! read more

HORRIBLE experience! From the start, I could tell the stylist who was going to do my highlights felt uncomfortable, I should have walked out but I gave her a chance. She didn't know how to give a consultation, I had to tell her where to part my hair and she honestly had no idea what she was doing. I specified I wanted blonde high lights and that I did not want them brassy or gold, I showed her shade I was going for and I specified stylists always use 30 vol. developer on my hair. She used 20, and my hair looked like I had orange stripes. Not to mention there was a bleed. She toned my hair 3 times and offered to dye it back to it's original color, but said that I'd still have to pay for the high lights... uhhh... why would I pay you for high lights when I left with my hair the same color as when I came in? I ended up leaving with the stripes in my hair. I didn't have to pay, but it didn't matter, my hair looked ridiculous and I had to pay another salon to do corrective color which is even more expensive.
