I got my haircut here yesterday by a woman named Raj. I showed her TWO pictures where I had the same cut. Then I went on to tell her twice that I Comb my hair up in the front Amma want it a little longer so I can do so. She said, "yes yes, I know..." then proceeded to be more interested in asking me how much money I make at work and completely disregarded what I showed her and asked. I was in a rush to go pick up my girl that was calling me towards the end of the cut and I didn't really notice before I left. I was charged 30 for the cut and gave 30 as a tip. I have been to Yasni multiple times now and never had a huge issue. When I arrive on time I usually have to wait 20-30 minutes after my appointment time for my turn to begin but I'm very understanding and wait patiently. I went in today asking for 2 inches off and long layers. Was only a wash and cut so I left with wet hair and was not able to see how the hair cut actually looked (my hair is curly when wet). I came home to brush and dry my hair. I immediately noticed a huge difference in layers so I decided to straighten to see what was really going on. The left side of my hair has a huge gap! The downfall was she didn't let me know how much the hair dye was and I got a bald head which was $30 and I didn't know the dye was $76.00 until Kay the register and I am very upset because I never expected that and didn't have the opportunity to turn the service down. I would not only never pay for that expensive service but couldn't afford to spend that kind of money. Secondly I have no hair whatsoever and why would I be charged $76.00 for dye when it doesn't take that much on a bald head. I want my money back or I will have to sue and have you all pay my lawyer fees and all. I am beyond upset. I went in to get a hairstyle called "scene hair" where you get your hair cut into a lot of layers with a razorblade. I wanted this style as I have very flat LONG HAIR (down to my butt) so I thought this style would compliment me. I even brought pictures to show. my stylist told me I should get long layers, but I didn't see the point to them as my hair would still look flat and its not what I wanted. she then said it would be hard for her to work for some reason and suggested I get a blow dry package and said It would cost 44$ for some reason ( which I was previously told 30). Again, not what I wanted as I like to go home and blow-dry/flat iron my hair myself as they never style it to my liking. Also I do not have the money for this. she began to divide my hair into sections and began at the bottom. I thought she was just cutting the split ends off to begin with...no she had taken a razor blade to my hair. the part of the hair that is supposed to be long. she began to show me and asked me how it looked and kept saying it looked to short. she took a very long time and I knew something was VERY wrong. but I tried to stay positive. She then walked away to get someone and told me not to worry as it was not a mistake.... another women came over and looked at my hair. my stylist began talkin to another Asian stylist in their language and I knew they were saying how horrid my hair was. my stylist began to tell the women that it was "to short, she thought it was to short" the women said nothing, only giving her a wide eyed glance . You know the "sht up glance". I began breathing exercises at this point as I felt like vomiting and was super anxious. the other women began razor blading my hair. she told me that everything was ok and my hair was fine. yada yada yada, I finally went home to go fix my hair- to my HORROR. NOTHING like in the pictures id shown. They didn't even give me the bangs I asked for. I basically had 2 layers. a bottom layer that was about 6 inches below the second. The longest layer had very little hair to it,it was super thin. my mother could not even hide the horror on her face. we went back. the person who seemed to be the manager, who had taken over for the first stylist was gone. The place was almost empty at this point. What pissed me off the most is how most of the staff acted towards me. when I walked in they kept saying that my hair was "not that bad" and how "my hair was still long" and that "hair grows back" then one Spanish women said she'd fix it once she was done with the person she was with. so I decided to wait. me and my mother sat in silence. then one women came over to check out my hair,she was the only one who admitted to the horrendous mistake and didn't try to sugar coat it with "well hair grows back" which seemed to be every stylist fix for the situation. like I've said above.MY HAIR WAS DOWN TO MY BUTT. after finally being done with her client. I showed the women the pictures I had shown the previous stylist. Pretty much every stylist in the salon sat around looking at me like a circus freak... she asked me if I wanted the same bangs in the picture as well. I said no, that my hair did not part that way,nor did I want it that way. but that I did want bangs. For some reason she stupidly decided to go on a little rant about how next time I need to bring a picture with the exact same bangs I wanted because it apparently confuses the shit out of stylist if you want to keep the bangs you have..... after she decided to shut up. I told her I wanted that hair style with lots of layers. she said she would give me that style and warned that id have a lot of shrt layers. YA OK I KNOW. she then proceeded to cut about 7 inches of my long thin hair layer because their was just no coming back from that mistake. when she was done she had given me this ridiculous choppy long layer cut.so the 2nd layer was about one inch above. no short layers ,nothing.it wasn't even a straight cut! the top layer was curved up for some reason?! she said that "it look like in the picture" I told her it was nothing like the picture?!? it looked horrendous!!!! and how I wanted what was in the picture. she said "oh okay I can cut it like in the picture" I obviously declined cause she said that was what she was going to do in the first place and didn't. I went home again only to find random long strained I had to cut. my right side is longer than my left. but here is the worst part. I WENT INTO THIS SALON WITH MY HAIR DOWN To MY BUTT NOW IT WAS UP TO MY SHOULDERS. what made me want to punch the stylist is she kept saying it was still LONG! it WAS NOT LONG. I LOST A FOOT AND A HALF OF HAIR AND HAVE THE uGLIST HAIR STYLE EVER. Finally, YES finally I was the victim and she learned one more style by cutting my hairs! Recommendation for the salon is, they must put professional and experienced staff! It all started with an appointment I made with Deanna more than a month ago, which she said she would take, despite that day being her day off. She said no problem, she would take me anyway. Fast forward to the month and she cancels on me through a colleague minutes before I was supposed to arrive at the shop. Super frustrating since I had other consecutive hair appointments lined up after hers to have other treatments done. The woman I speak to asked me if I wanted for someone else there to do my hair and I initially said no because Deanna came recommended as the top colorist there. Looking at my calendar and realizing I don't have a lot of time I call the salon back to try and schedule with the next best person. From there it became a teenage girl kind of sh*t show. I'm talking to Netta and without asking she puts me on hold while I can hear the conversation she's having in the background with a colleague. Suddenly the phone hangs up. I called back and talk to a woman with a heavy accent still trying to get an appointment, and she tells me Netta is not there when I ask for her, and then hangs up on me as well. Between the lying and the disrespect of being hung up on multiple times I obviously would not recommend this establishment. It's not run professionally. I WISH I could give ZERO stars because I would. CHRISTINA absolutely ruined my expensive wig. I went in for a bob with a long bang with a shorter side. She asked me about 3 times what I wanted and showed her each time. She did it at first exactly how I wanted it. Then she turned me around and basically did her own thing. I thought she was just making the cut a little less blunt, which I was fine with then I saw a chunk of hair fall off and I had to check. Absolutely NOT what I asked for. To make matters worse, IT WASN'T EVEN. She was nice, but absolutely not. I called to get a refund and they told me I could get store credit as if I would ever want ANYONE at ANY Hair Cuttery touch my hair ever again. And the nerve of her to put "see you soon" on her card knowing what she did. I don't understand what was so hard about the simple cut that I asked for and why she felt okay with doing whatever SHE wanted with MY expensive hair and mess it up at that. If you're going to do all that extra, you should at least make it cute and even so there's too much I can say. If you can't tell, I am absolutely livid. I had to come home and cut it more myself, which is more money going down the drain; I still have to cut more than the picture that I posted as well to make it looks at least decent. Just moved around here a couple months ago and was due for a trim. I don't know any good hair places around here so I just chose one close by. I don't usually post reviews but I thought maybe this might help someone else. When I came in, my hair was at mid point of my shoulder blades. I needed a trim because of dying my hair at home and the ends were getting really dry and ugly. Any-who, I called, scheduled an appointment, and went in on the same day because they had an opening. They took my boyfriend as well because they weren't busy. I told the lady I needed a trim of about an inch and for layers so there's some style in my hair. The base minimum is shampoo/conditioner and cut. No blow dry (that's extra). She cuts me hair and I think all is good. I leave the salon with my hair soaking wet but happy I got it trimmed, right? Of course! I get home and dry my hair. And i was so sad.... My hair is now uneven.. the longest parts are fine, she trimmed that well. But the layering is TERRIBLE.. the left side of my face looks fine but the right side is short to my chin, and is that length until it reaches the back of my ear, THEN goes into a longer length... honestly if she did that on both sides, I might be happy because at least then it would be symmetrical.. I really had high hopes for this place but sadly I will not be returning. My hair is uneven and there's no way to fix it until it grows back... on the other hand, the other lady who did my boyfriends hair, also made his uneven on the top. His is less noticeable so it's not too big of a deal. I hope this helps someone out that might be interested in going here for the first time. I've attached a picture of my hair to better explain what I mean by "uneven" and the sudden drop into the longer hair. Maybe other people had better experiences, but this was mine. read more

I've been going to this Hair Cuttery since 2006. As with any salon your experience will probably depend on which stylist you have. I'm a black woman so it's not easy finding a stylist in a chain that knows how to do black hair. Zulfi has been my stylist from day one and she's excellent at doing black hair. She is not the one to go to to get the ghetto fab look. She will take care of your hair and keep it healthy. She's always professional and so so nice. I love her! With that said, I've seen this location go thru many managers. They finally got a good one, I thought, Wayne, but sadly he's not longer there. He was a lot of fun and brought a nice brightness to the place. The new manager seemed a bit standoffish when I first saw her, she didn't even smile and speak as most managers did when walking thru the salon. The stylist there are pretty good people. There's a couple who sit in the back that can get loud; especially on weekends. While they may not all do their part, the salon is always kept very clean. I've gone to a couple of other stylest when Zulfi was on vacation, and I won't do that again. No one does my hair better than Zulfi, so I usually just go to another hair cuttery location when she's gone, just so I don't 'offend' anyone LOL. I've never had an issue with my hair or any run ins with anyone since I've been going there. I'll probably go to Zulfi until she retires though. When you find a good thing, you just stick with it. Besides I get a relaxer, cut, brow wax and wrap (dryer) all in no more than 2.5hrs. You really can't beat that! I will NEVER go to a black salon because I'd be there 4hrs just to get my hair relaxed. and Ain't nobody got time for that! 2/9/15 - Sadly Zulfi has since retired and is no longer at Hair Cuttery. read more

This is my third visit to Hair Cuttery-- each one at a different NoVA location... and each one a little worse than the last one. I came in as a walk-in and had a few minutes to wait for someone to become available. I noticed that their menu of prices was either different than other locations or the pricing structure in general had changed. They now have a different charge for simple blowdrying v. blowdrying 'straight.' And a separte one for flat ironing. I decided to take the $24 shampoo, cut and blow dry deal and not pay $4 extra for the 'straight' blowdry. The listing was a little unclear, but I think I would've paid $7 more for straight ironing. I found out at the very end of my appointment that they had also charged me a $10 upcharge for having long hair. My hair is not extremely long, but slightly below my shoulders. This *was* in the fine print on the menu, but I didn't notice it. I didn't feel the haircut was worth $34 being at a Hair Cuttery, to be honest. I just wanted a simple trim, enough to cut off the dead ends. I don't get my hair cut enough so that's usually my main request. She said one inch would be sufficient, though I had doubts. It wasn't until I was back in my car that I grabbed the ends and noticed they were still FULL of split ends. I pretty much paid $34 + tip for nothing. I'm only going with a 2 star because my hair did sort of look phenomenal after she finished with the blowdrying with a round brush. The stylist also made me feel a little bit odd after she told me that I was 'so pretty like a doll' and that I looked 'like an angel.' Definitely wouldn't recommend this location. I thought I got lucky because they were open on Sunday and by 9am ; so i booked my appointment and got there at 8:55 ; there was a line of people outside waiting to go in. Needless to say the "lead" manager didn't open shop until 9:20. Apparently this is a regular occurrence too. In addition, one customer was begging for free service and would pay them back tomorrow. They actually allowed it! And this customer already owed them $27 from doing this already. Register was broken when it was time to check out so I had to use Cash App and my stylist paid the business later in the day. point is, NEVER AGAIN. read more

The "lady" who cut my hair basically ATTEMPTED to cut my hair in a "straight" line, saw my phone in my hand with the images of the cut I wanted, didn't bother to ask me what type of cut I wanted and proceeded to cut my hair for a whooping 5-8 minutes, didn't bother to show me the back of my head with a mirror once she was done and sent me along my way. Most unprofessional, disrespectful, inconsiderate place to get your hair cut. I want my money back!!! When I got home I blow dried my hair and got to see the final product, she left loose hairs in the back that were completely and noticeably uneven, I had to cut the parts she didn't because it looked that RIDICULOUS and embarrassing!! I went in on Friday 10/5 because I needed my hair done well the lady did my hair she did like a balayage and not even a full balayage that I paid 177 for so I notice when I got home it was the same color hair I had before and i could see a little green in it so I called back and they told me to come in and they can change it to whatever it is I wanted so I went with a different color like a dark copper brown to cover up everything when I got home I notice that my hair was only covers in part I still have some blonde and then some copper brown in my hair and not only that but my hair is so damaged that it feelings like it's gum of how damaged it is and so my hair is basically falling out everytime I brush it it was so bad that last night I even did hair mask my self at home and they helped but im scared that it's still going to fall out the worst experience ever I feel like I should get at least half of my money back especially because I even bought some products that she said would help my damage but I don't know even if it's going to work or if I'm going to have to get my hair chopped off. Kim Smitit is your girl. Coming from a early 30 Latin woman. Defin was worth my money. Very impressed with her work. Didn't know what I wanted and hair before the color was light light. She recommended and suggested to not go so dark since summer is around the corner and because of my pale features in the winter lol I let her do her thing. And I am so impressed with my results. Defin shows that she can do hair and knows what she is talking about with going light to dark and all the damage I did to my hair got a "Trim" and when I say "trim" an actual trim.... She consulted with me on the "trim" I was looking for since I wanted to keep my length. Most hair Cuttery you get kind of worried of what the results will look like but this one time I go randomly no appointment I got a great one. Now that I know she works 9am-2pm defin come check her out more often. Don't let the looks fool you she brings personality and is very hip to what the younger generation is looking for. Very impressed. She suggested to not go so dark since it was summer and kept my tips light and save me some bucks since she didn't have to bleach the tips, just used toner after the one color to make it look more natural and blend in. And it worked and came out even better than I thought. My trim was a real trim and she don't get scissor happy as most stylists tent to.. defin worth going back and use her as my main stylist. I am very picky about who can touch my hair. I have very unique hair it isn't exactly curly but it isn't straight either. I have large waves which gives me an Afro when my hair is short (shoulder length) Only one person is allowed to do my hair. I followed June to this location from the previous place she was at, June has been my stylist since 2008. She does a great job every time. Afterwards, she followed with a deep conditioning treatmemt to make sure my hair didn't feel damaged. I loved the way it turned out and I will be coming back for a haircut.
