Such was the case around Christmas of last year, so I went to a competitor who cut hair like mowing a lawn and the medium trim I requested became a modified high and tight! When my husband's usual barbershop didn't open on time, we decided to see what local Yelpers had to say about other barbers in the area. Thankfully, the recommendations for The Barber Shop were spot on! We called ahead to see if they were busy. They said that while it is a first-come, first-served shop, they didn't have a big crowd that morning. When we walked in, Heather showed my husband to her open chair and got to work taming his shaggy locks. (It was pretty bad. He hadn't gotten a haircut in almost four months, so the back of his head was getting dangerously close to a mullet.) We chatted with Heather as she snipped away. She was very friendly and told us more about the shop. Heather said she's been working there for almost 24 years! Her experience showed, since my husband looked like a very professional-headed man once she was done with the job. The prices were reasonable and we were both pleased with the entire experience. I've now brought my boys in here twice and it's simply fantastic. Haircuts use to be a very dreaded situation, but both my boys were excited when I said it's haircut day. My youngest has sensory processing disorder and things like this are typically hard for him, but Brandon has made it an enjoyable experience. He instantly asked, "can the cool guy cut my hair handsome again?" This is a kid who typically takes a year or so to warm up to people, so it's huge for him. Found it on yelp after reviewing barbershops near me. Walked in without an appointment and noticed 4 barbers working on folks and another 4 people waiting. It seemed to be a clean shop and had a couple of tvs playing as well as animated conversations between barbers and customers. I waited what I considered to be an average 15 minutes to be called for my cut. With my minimal requests I was given a very good and fast cut that has stood up well several days now since my visit. No frills (massages, drinks, hot towels, etc.) were offered so I'm not sure if they have them. My haircut, less a tip was $19. All around a good experience from my point of view for this area. First of all, don't come here expecting to just jump in your favorite barbers chair. They're also a favorite of probably 100 other people too. Expect a possible 20-40 minute wait during peak times, weekends can be even longer. The wait is worth it, you can bet on that. If you don't want to wait then head up to Fairfax City to the local hipster barbershop and make an appointment for two months out and pay over double what this place charges. Heather, Brandon, and Stacey have done exceptional jobs when I've sat with them for a haircut but I haven't tried any of the other folks working here. If you come in the door here and don't like that there's a 30-40 minute wait, make sure you verbalize that you'll try tomorrow....at the same time....because they'll probably have the exactsamewaittime!!! Really the worst haircut of my life and I had to wait for it. I thought awhile before saying it was the worst. Did I have a worse haircut ten, twenty, thirty years ago? No, I don't think so. I had a pretty bad one when I joined the military but that's what you expect. Diedre did an okay job with the razor on the sides of my head but kept going. When I felt her using a razor on top, I was a little concerned. She finally stopped before butchering the front third of my head but the damage was done. It really is amazingly bad. There's an old saying that the difference between a bad hair cut and a good haircut is two weeks. It's been two weeks and the haircut is still embarassing. Right now, I'm looking forward to another two weeks when I can go to a different barber and, hopefully, get a decent hair cut. read more

Walked in with around 3.5 inches of length on my beard. I had never let anyone touch my beard before. And I will never let anyone at this shop touch my beard ever again. I walked in with extensive pictures of what I wanted. With a quick glance Dave assured me that he can do it. I make it very clear to him I DO NOT want any length cut off from the front. I let him do his work. The entire time he never asked me my opinion or showed me the mirror. Instead I left with more than half my beard chopped off and a shape that looked nothing remotely close to the pictures I showed him. Months of growing and maintaining a beard just to have it chopped down to one inch. Absolutely appalled with this experience. After I tried to tell him that he cut off too much he tried to justify it by telling me the picture has x,y,z when CLEARLY the picture has a beard that is most definitely 2.5 to 3 inches in length. I brought my son here for the first time a month and ago and we went back for his second cut this past Friday. Brandon did an awesome job both times and my son was thrilled with his haircut! As a mom, I was nervous for his first trip to an actual barber shop (even though he's 12), but Brandon just worked magic on my kid's massive mop of hair (including a swirly cowlick in the back!) and he has never looked better! This will definitely be our go-to barber for a long time. As for the rest of the shop, the staff is very friendly and welcoming, conversations are clean, a tv is set up in the back to keep you occupied while waiting, and it's a visually pleasing little shop-clean, interesting decor, bench seating. First time I went there I was satisfied. Returned only to have to wait and wait and wait and... There were four barbers and each one was slower than the next. One guy, Davey, I think, would snip, snip, snip and I swear most of his snips were cutting nothing but air. The guy at the end, can't remember his name but he has the super heroes display, was busy BSing to his client about their golf games all the while trimming and trimming and trimming at nothing. The guy two down from Davey kept trimming snipping at a guys hair which was already about an eight inch long. Then each would show the client his cut in the mirror and I figured "ok, FINALLY finished" just to go back and begin snipping and snipping and snipping. After twenty minutes of waiting while the same clients were still in the chairs I left. I think these people are trained to snip and trim at nothing and make it look like they're busy. I've been going to various barber shops in the area for a few years trying to get the right one: one with consistently good haircuts that actually take into account what I ask for, and one with an actual barber shop feel. This one is great on both counts. I like the sign in system and I also like the feeling that the barbers know their regular customers.
