I looked for hair salons all over Charleston. Looking for a basic color service without additional flares and required booking services. This salon was exactly what I needed, it gives you the option to book just what you want, and the prices are true to the advertised ones so there are no surprises. The prices are also reasonable and some of the best I found around town The salon is very nice and clean and they offered me a soda while I was getting my hair done which was an extra nice treat. Plenty of parking in the lot and a lot of great professionals available. Will be coming back. read more

I went to this amazing hair salon for the first time and I absolutely love it! I was welcomed so warmly as a new client and I felt very appreciated. I admire the story of the salon and its owner, Karen. The beloved salon has been on James Island for over 25 years. Karen started out as a stylist here years ago, and bought the business in early 2020. Karen really listened to me and made great recommendations on how to achieve the look I wanted. I appreciate her focus on healthy, shiny hair and that's what I got. I am so excited about my new cut and color! I highly recommend this salon and I am now a regular customer. Too expensive $60 for a haircut that lasted 20 minutes. partial highlight and blow dry $120. I've been going there for years and had to switch to a different hairdresser just this once, and U couldn't believe what she charged. Kelly has never charge me over $150 for highlights, cut, and blow- dry. I spent a total of $120 for partial highlights and blow-dry. So altogether (without a tip for the highlights and blow-dry, I paid $192. I wasn't ready for that. Blew me away. No pun intended. I'm going back to Kelly next time, no matter how long I have to wait for an appointment. I've always been pleased with my hair until this time. read more

Yesterday, 7/11/24, Susan cut my hair for the first time. She provided me the best result by far since we moved to the Charleston area nearly two years ago! She actively listened to the way I wanted it done. She was meticulous in her approach to achieving my desired look. She's clearly a knowledgeable hair stylist. Ok so I needed my hair braided, explained I needed/wanted TIGHT braids so I could wear for few days take them out for body... Well before I left they seemed loose... She (Angie) said no thier tight, they won't come out... Well... I've been wearing them two French braids (when I wanted 2 on each side) only got 1 on each side) wearing them for 4 hours now and their almost falling out... there is NO WAY these braids will give me the kink I'm wanting... And I can't even go back and have her fix it cuz they close at 2 on sat and won't open till Tuesday. The girls were VERY NICE... FRIENDLY... BUT NOT HAPPY with my hair!!! I've had the same haircut since I was in 4th grade, 20 years ago. I walked into Hair du Jour on vacation a couple weeks ago, and that all changed. I was welcomed upon entry and didn't have to wait long for a stylist. Kelly, the stylist, was warm, personable, and confident in her skills. After telling her I wanted "a trim, the same trim I've known all my life," she said, "I don't want to suggest something out of your comfort zone, but if you're looking to change your style just a little, we could try a small layer." I hesitated, but in the end, I trusted her suggestion. After 20 years, this stylist convinces me to give a new look a try, and a couple weeks later, I still love it. Worth every penny. Honestly devastated... I only give two stars because Bobbi the owner tried to fix why a hack job her new employee did. I hate to write this review but I would not let Taylor the new hair stylist touch your hair if you want anything done that's not super easy IE quick cut... I asked for a brown hair color and mine came out black with red tones to it. It took 7 hours to fix... yes 7. Bobbie tried her best to fix what a mess was made with my hair but it still did not turn out how I wanted it too and she knew that. The worst part was when it came to paying I was only suppose to pay 90$ but they charged for 135$... so I got charged extra because of something that was there fault? Yes I know it took extra time and products but that was not because of me.. if anything I thought she would have discounted it. I didn't have the heart to not pay plus I'm just not that type of person but I did not tip. I know Bobbie tried hard to fix what Taylor did but I just want to for warn anyone out there... do not go to Taylor she is very novice and it shows. I know everyone has to start somewhere but I'd rather her gain experience then work on me... it was a horrible experience. read more

Hair wasn't done the color i wanted at all(wanted ombre just did full highlights) and a chemical was put on it in the washbowl that literally made my hair start falling out in the chair. Like 1/3 of my hair fell out! i was almost in tears and the stylist still had the audacity to charge me $120 even after giving me a free moroccan oil because she saw how how bad it was to hopefully keep my hair from falling out more. read more

Love Hair Du Jour and Bekah. This is the most friendly place to have your hair done and since I have lived on James Island for the past 25 years I have been to a few. Bekah is marvelous. I have very thick hair and have a head full of irregular growth patterns. Over the years I have seen my head scalped as much older people than Bekah have "tried" to cut my hair. Not Bekah. She just listened to what I wanted and gave me that perfect cut. Coloring my hair is my hang-up but Bekah is patient with me and we have worked together to achieve the look I like. Really can't say enough good things about this place. I travel all over and I've had haircuts everywhere from mom & pop barbers to celebrity hairstylists. Nothing has come close to Hair Du Jour. I always go to Bekah when I'm in town. She's a genuinely nice person. Perhaps even the kind of person you could see yourself being best friends with! She's the most knowledgeable with hair of any stylist I've ever worked with. I have NEVER had a bad haircut with her. There are no two sides of the story Bobbie. I am sad you are making this personal. The reason I chose to leave the first review is because my child did not sit there happy while being humiliated. They called me confused, frightened and scared. They was not at any point comfortable. For you, who claim to have NO knowledge of the situation before you saw my first review is both disemgenious and untrue. For you to presume to know what my child felt during the event that she called me during is trying to save face after contacting me and not getting the result you hoped for. I expressed what I felt about the situation and outside of trying to buy me off you have given me no concrete information to insure that kindness and no predujuice would be installed. Instead of owing any part of this unfortunate experience you attack the victim and me in trying to learn and grown with correct behavior and pronouns. Anyone different in anyway or part of LGBT community should be cautious about seeing that you may have learned nothing from my daughter's humiliation other than to throw blame on the person not responsible instead of owning the error and growing from it read more

This was a big Christmas surprise to my girls and me, but unfortunately due to circumstances we didn't make it till 4:45 they only took 2 of us and then rushed through the cuts. This salon is awesome! I have had long hair for the last, oh, 20 years or so, and went here on the recommendation of a friend to have my hair cut for Locks Of Love. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! My stylist, Bobbie, listened to my ideas and questions before starting to cut, and then walked me through each step of what she was doing and how I could best style it on my own. Don't let the building fool you...it looks a little "warehouse-esque" on the outside, but once inside, you feel like you are in an upscale salon. Best haircut I've had in years! I have very thick hair that has a mind of its own. I had just about given up on my dream of finding a cut that would look great either blown straight or left to its natural curly state. Bekah worked magic! I am VERY happy! While I was there, a number of people were having color - from highlights to multi-color strands. They all looked fantastic. Every stylist here is a talented professional. Highly recommended.
