I genuinely do not enjoy giving negative reviews, but giving anything higher than one star feels dishonest. I booked CanaryRock to do both my makeup and my hair for my wedding, and came to the salon a week before the big event for my trial. The stylist was talented and kind, and I loved my look! Unfortunately, at around 7 pm the night before my wedding (my appointment was at 1:00) someone called me and told me that my appointment was cancelled due to sickness among the staff. I understand that things like this happen, however I was shocked by the lack of professionalism. The person I spoke with did not offer any solutions, provide any referrals, or even offer a refund on the trial I had already paid for. I had to ask if the refund would be possible myself - only after I asked did she agree. I would not recommend trusting this salon for your big day. read more

Unfortunately I have not had the best experiences with Canary Rock. My stylist has been kind, and I really like her! However, I don't like her work on my hair. Specifically, I have had big issues with color. Visit 1: I recently moved and wanted a new salon closer to home. I scheduled a haircut and root color touch-up. I explained to my stylist the cut I wanted (nothing drastic; trim ends and reframe/relayer) and how my color needed to be permanent, color grays, and be in the neutral/ash tone. The cut was fine, but the color did not deposit at all on my roots. I did not notice this till I got home. I called the salon and scheduled a re-do. Visit 2: This was the re-do of the color service above. Then my stylist used such a high-volume developer and much darker than natural root color that the color did indeed cover grays, but it left an odd 'stripe' of dark brown at my scalp. There was no blending between my dyed roots and the rest of my hair color. Visit 3: Two months later, I came back for another haircut and color. My stylist did a fine cut, and I mentioned the issues with the root color. She changed the root color to a lighter brown, but instead of keeping it in the ash/neutral tone, this was a super-warm, brassy brown color. It covered grays, but was not a good shade. She added highlights to try and blend all the hair colors I had going on at the time. Visit 4: Okay haircut. At this point, my hair has these stripes of various shades of permanent hair color my stylist has used on my roots. I tried to address this: I was concerned with all the shades of color plus how brassy and reddish my color was becoming. My stylist went back to a good color on my roots, but the low-volume developer she used meant nothing was actually covered. The permanent color basically washed out and did not cover grays. She put a color gloss on to try and change the tone to ash/neutral, but this also washed out. I was charged for both a color gloss as well as a toner in addition to my root touch-up permanent color and haircut. I knew that that point I would not be coming back. I went to another salon the next week to get corrective color. I need a stylist who listens to what I want regarding color: cover grays, neutral/cool/ash brown, and blend well with the rest of my hair. I gave this salon several chances, but I won't be back. read more

I've lived in Charleston for almost 3 years and wish I had found Kristi when I first moved here. She listens to what you want and does just that with slight improvements. I haven't like my hair this much in a long time. Her recommendations of products have been spot on as well. I have thin straight hair and she has some how made it look much fuller. I went to Ziba a few months ago and had an okay experience. The front desk person was disorganized and didn't believe I had an appt when I did. When she finally realized it she paired me with my stylist. There was a lady getting her hair done with an infant in toe. I love kids but this baby would not stop crying. It was so bad I almost walked out. Then came the haircut. My stylist did a decent job but failed to ask if I wanted anything to drink. Little did I know they have wine and beer they offer their clients. The stylist seemed rushed and I didn't feel like she gave 100% effort into making my hair look perfect. Also, if going to pay over $50 just for a haircut, I expect excellent service yo accompany that. I just moved to Charleston and was looking to get a haircut. I found Ziba on yelp and it had good reviews so I checked it out. When I went in the salon was tastefully done. It was chic and cute on the inside. The atmosphere was like that of any nice salon, I waited about 10 mins for my appointment time. I had an appointment With Laurie. She was amazing. I have long hair, but I had ombré done for the past 2 years so it's been damaged and I always get afraid when I get my haircuts because all the hair stylists I seem to go to LOVE to cut off more than I ask for. I told her to cut off the dead ends, and a trim. She suggested a restorative treatment and I agreed. It was wonderful, my hair came out beautiful and exactly what I wanted. She was able to salvage more than I expected and she recommended some tips for me to keep the health of my hair. My hair looks wonderful. My picky boyfriend even liked it!!! If your hair needs some r&r I definitely recommend this place! I also got some glam strands that are red and sparkly that I loved! I met my best fried while she had her trail run hair for her wedding. Her hair turned out great, almost exactly what her inspiration image looked like, if not better. We decided to have our nails done while we were there. We pulled up another image and the nail girl (sorry, I cannot remember her name) was SO excited to make our pinterest nail dream come true. She was very personable and we both enjoyed talking with her while we had our nails beautified (all while sipping on wine). We both chose pink gel polish with a glitter ombre. After moving back to Charleston I went through a handful of stylists. I tried salons Downtown, Mt. Pleasant, and West Ashley ---- then I FINALLY found Kelli Smith at Ziba Salon on Maybank Hwy!!! Kelli is AMAZING!!!! Usually before my hair appts I'm a complete bundle of nerves...by the time I'm done with my appt and I'm leaving the salon I have sweated through my clothes (no joke!). NOW I look forward to my hair appts -- it's a relaxing experience where I actually feel like I'm catching up with one of my besties while she styles my hair :) For the 1st time EVER family and friends actually notice and comment on my hair (FINALLY!!!!!). I'm relatively new to Charleston and have been putting off getting my hair cut for far too long. When I finally decided to get it done, I was a bit overwhelmed by the options presented to me. I chose Ziba because 1. it has solid reviews on Yelp, and 2. it isn't downtown. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision to book an appointment at Ziba. I called on a Tuesday, and they were able to schedule me an appointment with Laurie on the immediate upcoming Thursday. When I arrived at the salon, I was given a chair immediately -- no wait at all! I came in wanting an asymmetrical lob and to add kind of blue coloring to my medium/dark brown hair. Laurie was really personable and helpful, and she helped me refine my ideas so they'd work for me. I felt really comfortable with her, and never doubted for a second that her suggestions would work. After a little over an hour, I left with gorgeous blue highlights, a veeeery slight allover blue tint, and a perfect cut, all for a really reasonable price. I've already scheduled my next appointment, and will recommend the salon to anyone who asks. read more

I just moved to the area from the NYC area. A fter doing a little bit of research I decided to try Canary Rock. I walked in and was promptly seated. The Atmosphere was terrific as well as the stylists. When I arrived my hair was totally oxidized and in need of some serious TLC Savannah worked very hard and it was very easy to speak to. I needed my hair done asap while in Charleston visiting my sister. It's always nerve wracking when you try a new place on a whim but Baylee was AWESOME. Not only did she do an amazing color and trimmed my ends but she added a gloss and some anti-frizz products to protect my hair in this massively humid weather. THEY RUINED MY WIFE'S HAIR! Avoid at all costs! This salon was completely terrible. They made it very obvious that they despise children, they kicked my 19 month out daughter out of their salon! I told them when I made the appointment that she would be with us and they did not express that this would be an issue. When we arrived, my wife went in first. I brought our baby in a couple of minutes later asked if I could go back to see my wife, "sure" they replied. So l carried my daughter back and was talking to my wife. I let my daughter stand beside us, then someone came up to me and told me that my daughter could not be walking around in the back. Ok that's fine, I can understand that. I took my daughter out the salon and walked around for a little while. After they worked on my wife's hair for a little while they said they could go ahead and cut my hair while they were waiting so I handed my daughter to my wife and sat down, they immediately stormed up to us saying that my daughter couldn't be in the back area at all. They had not said anything like that to begin with. They said that she could go to the waiting area with my wife. The waiting area was allele easy being over utilized by a bridal party that had set up a whole event in their tiny waiting area, so my wife took our daughter outside and waited. My wife then brought our daughter back into the waiting area because she knew my haircut was going to be done soon. After being in the waiting area for about ten minutes they approached my wife and told her that they cannot have children in waiting are for long periods of time because they have a spa in the back. Seriously!!! My daughter wasn't even disturbing anyone! She was sitting there playing with her toy. We were so angry that we didn't even want to finish my wife's hair. Then they completely messed up her hair. When we got home we were rinsing dye out of her hair for 45 minutes. Her scalp was still covered in dye when we got home. Now her hair is complete fryed. It is stingy and frayed and not at all what we wanted. This was the worst experience we have ever had with a salon. I suspect that most of the reviews on here for them are false. Because I have spoken to other people who have had bad experiences with this salon also. I WOULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!! read more

Christina Ghoreishi is an absolute pleasure to work with and communication was a breeze. When I showed her the pictures of different hairstyles at my trial, she went right to work and it was everything I wanted and more. On top of that, on wedding day she was able to squeeze in an extra bridesmaid hairstyle! The wedding was in the morning and my hair held until midnight. I've been bouncing around Charleston since I moved here six years ago looking for a stylist, and I'm so happy I found Sarah! She listened to the concerns I had about the current state of my color, and provided excellent advice and technique to achieve the most natural looking blonde/bronde hue. It's so natural looking that I know the color is still going to look amazing as my hair grows between appointments. Sarah definitely worked wonders with my ultra-fine, (over)processed strands, and gave me the best looking cut I've had in ages. I've had so many compliments on my new 'do since she worked her magic; I could not be more pleased.
