I've searched for a good salon for a while. One with good service, a good vibe, and decent prices. I finally found it! Andi Nelson did me right. She's got some serious skills and certifications. She specializes in pixie cuts but my hairs mid length and wavy. I love hair dressers like her because she asks questions before getting to it. Like what my routine is and how much I wear my hair up. Those kinds of things. I've never dyed my hair before and when searching for a hair dresser I always ask "should I dye my hair?" The ones that say yes are just trying to make $$$, the ones that say no, know their stuff and genuinely care if I mess with chemicals in my hair and stuff. I am new to the area and I recognize I went to a "junior" stylist, but she stated that she had over 2 years of experience in the industry. The color I received didn't cover my roots and I was given a mullet haircut. This was months ago and I still cannot style the sides. I can barely put my hair behind my ears and it is the entire side of both sides of my head is about 5 inches! I had to have an additional 4 inches cut to try to "match" the sides to my back. My current stylist said "you have a lot going on here". I have never had this bad of a cut and it will take me a year to get it to something manageable again. I am considering a wig at this point. ***COVID Update*** At the beginning of quarantine, the last thing I considered doing was getting a haircut. I have to wear my hair up every day for work, so by now it's gotten too heavy and too hard to manage. I was confident that Strawberry Blonde would have plenty of procedures in place and they did. When you arrive for your appointment, they have a board outside telling you to send them a text that you've arrived. There is no more waiting room, you have to wait outside until your chair is ready. I liked the extra precaution. All the employees were wearing masks which made me feel even more comfortable. My stylist was Morgan and she was very personable and easy to talk to. She took out some of the "weight" in my hair with layers and I feel great! I'm very happy with the whole experience and will be going back again for my next haircut. read more

AVOID THIS SALON. Hands down the worst treatment I have EVER received from any business at any point in my life. Zero stars would be more accurate. I was a regular customer of a woman who tragically passed away. However, a couple weeks before this happened she did a terrible job highlighting my hair. The color did not turn out well so I went back to see another stylist who did a clarifying wash and toner. This helped a bit but I had damage and breakage that I started noticing more and more of. I had scheduled highlights to be done again(which I was going to pay for) but decided it was a bad idea and instead was going to have a complimentary deep conditioning treatment done to help with further breakage. This conditioning treatment wasn't going to be done for another week though so I politely asked to speak with the manager to see if there were any recommendations on at-home treatments I could do or how this could be best handled. It's obviously an odd and awkward situation since the stylist is no longer alive but I still need to deal with my damaged hair. Instead of calling back or offering advice, I received a text message from the salon: 'Hi Kate, our owner said that we can refund your color service. We went ahead and got that refunded for you. We apologize we couldn't get it right for you, we'll go ahead and cancel your appointment we just don't think that we'll be able to accommodate your needs. Again, we apologize. Please let us know if you need anything else. SBS' I was shocked and told him I appreciated the refund but asked if they could still do the conditioning treatment. Their response was this: 'Unfortunately, since we refunded you it is outside of our redo policy to offer complimentary services after refund.' Like WHAAT??!! Low. Again, this is the worst treatment I have ever received in my life. The owner of the salon has no business being in customer service. I did not have a single negative or nasty exchange with anyone in this process. I was simply reaching out for help. I wasn't even being overly demanding or asking for a ton of free services. I didn't ask for a refund either. I see now why they offered it so quickly. DESPICABLE to turn a blind eye and not help out a customer in need. COMPLETELY INFURIATING. read more

I love this salon! I've gone here for haircuts since I moved here 2.5 years ago and have always had a great experience. I typically see Alex. She is wonderful, always understands what I want even when I'm bad at explaining myself. I've also seen two others when Alex wasn't available and they did a great job as well. The place itself is very cool. Eclectic decor, good music, plus a free drink when you come for an appointment. Wine at noon? Yes, please. I've always liked their small amount of boutique offerings (earrings, jewelry, makeup) but the last time I was in they seemed to be getting rid of most of that. They do sell all of the Bumble & Bumble products you could ever need. I'll stick to Dove, but if I want a $30 bottle of shampoo I know where to go. All of the staff I've dealt with are knowledgeable and friendly. You can also sign up for text appointment reminders which is helpful. Lastly, I love the location in Avondale. I used to live in West Ashley so this spot was handy, but even since moving to James Island it's only 10 minutes away, tops. Plus you can go grab a drink or shop around Avondale after your appointment (or go back to work, which is usually the case). Highly recommended! No complaints. read more

I absolutely love this place. I'm one of those people that gets a haircut maybe every 6 months (so sue me), and I've never really committed to a "stylist" or whatever. Plain and simple. They also sell some jewelry, which I really want to buy but somehow resist every time- not sure how long that will last... I've been here a couple times and never been unhappy but I came in yesterday and saw one of their master stylist and I am absolutely in love with my haircut! I am always unsure how I feel when I leave salons and they curl my hair because it can look a little "cutesy" and again not the case here! Loved it! I also get skeptical too when I have to style it at home but today I am again happy to be wrong... super easy to style!! She did an amazing job listening to me and the salon in general is just a good vibe! I have been looking for a great salon and stylist in Charleston for years. I would only go in for a "micro trim" and get charged upwards of $65 (without tip included). I couldn't get over such a crazy price point for a trim. Half the time, I would come out with a bigger trim than what I'd asked for. If it wasn't that, I would try to get talked into color. Anyways, I chalked it up to the Charleston scene and Charleston prices, until I found Heather M. at Strawberry Blonde. I went in for a trim, and almost choked over the cheap price. Never mind the price point, Heather M. is fantastic. I felt comfortable around her instantly - no awkward silences and conversation flowed smoothly when we did talk. To me, this is a big reason I'll go back to the same stylist. Getting your hair done is important, no matter how small the trim is, and if I'm not comfortable, I am hesitant to return. I told Heather exactly what I wanted, and that's what I got. She didn't try to push anything on me, but after one session with her, I decided to come in a few months later and chop off a lot of length and change the color (first time in over 10 years having my hair colored). To top it off, Heather M./Strawberry Blonde allowed me to come back within 2 weeks to add a little more color free of charge (and didn't make me feel like a jerk for coming back again). Unbelievable customer service! Finally, I would like to add in that I was not double booked, and so I didn't have to wait for any of my three appointments. Ok I wanted to try this place, so I called to book an appointment and first the women tells me to hold on I wait 3 minutes, 5 minutes 8 minutes at 10 minutes I hang up and call back (should have been first warning sign), and schedule a blow out. So maybe I'm a picky NYC person who is used to blowouts being sort of like "pizza" even when its bad its good kind of thing, but no. My "stylist" was 12 ok maybe 18 and used half a gallon of product in my hair and it was still frizzy/not great-then she pushed the product hard (I hate that). I like the atmosphere etc, but at the end of the day what you walk out with matters. I should stick with salons downtown when I visit the parents, this was a bust. read more

After experiencing some pretty atrocious hair dos in the last year, I was pretty hesitant about going to a new salon. Booking- fairly easy to book an appointment within a reasonable time frame. Store- super cute with an artsy/urban feel to it. They have an additional part that sells fairly reasonable cost clothing. Stylist- Lauren did a great job with my hair. Because of the hack job done by a previous stylist, she had to do some corrective coloring as well. My highlights came out fantastic. I'm pretty particular about my hair cut, and it was done perfectly. Overall a great experience! ****They're also offering a special- free haircut with highlights. This is where I got the best haircut of my life. From the moment I entered, I know this place would be amazing. Great atmosphere, welcoming waiting area, and the interior looks amazing. Jojo was amazing and welcoming from the very beginning. She listened to what I wanted, put her personal spin on it, and made my hair better than I had hoped! I was relaxed and enjoyed every minute of my visit and will definitely be back in the future.
