I referred my mother to get her hair colored by Isabella on 06/21. I wanted to treat my mom. Unfortunately, my mother had a horrible experience with Isabella's work. After several people noticed my mother's hair, my mother also noticed so many demarcations in every section. The colorist also left out so many sections of outgrown greys, etc. My mother went out of her way to show the manager/owner that she's unhappy and upset. $400+ and the work was absolutely horrendous. The owner was not only rude to my mom but she also behaved unprofessionally as a business owner. She kept interrupting my mom non-stop and called her a liar. Not to mention my mother is a professional hair colorist and knows how the job should've been done. She also showed inspo photos to the stylist on the day of her appointment, obviously the girl took the easy route. Long story short, she told my mother to leave and to never come back. No client should leave the salon in tears. My mother is not the type to cause a scene or put down the colorist in front of the owner, she just wanted to be heard. My mother was asking for the coloration difference not the full refund and her request was still denied. This place may be super busy, but don't know how to treat their clients with respect. First time clients or not, this is not how you do business. At the end of the day it was never about the money. I'm posting this review on multiple platforms. Good luck to your business! read more

I don't know why I came back here. I took my daughter for color. Top half, black and the bottom half, blonde. It was parted uneven. You can barely see the blond half when the hair is loose or tied up. The ends of the blonde section are black. For a job that costs $260 + $50 tip, you'd think you get 100% customer satisfaction. I even spoke to the person at the front desk and requested someone who knows how to do the desired colors. It was a very upsetting experience. Waited 30 minutes to be seen considering we had scheduled the appointment a week before. Lesson learned, never going back. read more

My new place to get my hair did (done)! Hair Essentials is located in the corner of a strip mall. Yes i know. You may think its like all the rest of the generic hair salons on this island, but this place has great talent. When walking in your greeted promptly by a pleasant receptionist. The stylist are made aware you arrived and you are taken in the back and draped. You are then prepped and made ready for the stylist. I have to say things are run very well. The salon is modern and clean. The girls are very nice, down to earth, and you never feel uncomfortable. The prices are reasonable, and they never change. The dye is top quality. I am a red head and the color and shine stays in for about 7 weeks. I use Theresa or Julia. Def check this place out you won't be disappointed! read more

My daughter had a balayage done and was disappointed with the pathetic bleach job. She wanted her hair light and bright but the end result was darker than what she started with. It's to bad I couldn't go in with her due to Covid-19. It's very disappointing she is not happy her hair and she must wait and have it redone elsewhere. I went there for the first time for highlights . They washed my hair and as I so call colorist was combing my hair a bunch of hair came out of my head ! She over lapped the beach and burnt my hair off my scalp! They had me leave the place with double conditioner my hair was soaking wet. The owner was there a name is Nina. She saw this all happening and pretended not to be the owner of the place and charged me $120 for all the damage that I colorist cause in my hair called the owner the day after and I went to see her. She looked at my face and said oh your hair is fine I can give you product to fix it. Terrible businesswoman terrible place I would not recommend anyone to go there you go in there with healthy hair and you come out with your head Philip damaged. So now my hair I can't even get a comb through it because it's so damaged and I showed the owner and she disregarded it. Terrible place ladies don't go there you go in with healthy hair you've come out with damage hair and the best part is they don't care they just want the money they probably use a cthey products.! It's really clean and friendly. But the girl did not blow dry my hair correctly. When I left and ran my fingers through my hair it was like kind of wet and like moist. Did not like that all. Hair Essentials has become my go to salon; I refuse to go anywhere else now. I used to go to other hair salons that people recommended me on the island, but my hair came out butchered EVERY time & plus the prices were too high! I always passed Hair Essentials on my way to work & I looked up reviews. They had really great reviews so I decided to call in. The front staff is great & they were so nice! Nicole does my hair & she's amazing. She knows what she's talking about when it comes to dying my hair. Other colorists @ other salons would never really inform me the way she does. i was nervous to do my hair again after a bad experience at another salon but this one changed my mind. nicole was amazing with color, placement and blend and got me the prettiest balayage, i'm serious when i say this is the only time when i didn't walk out of the salon disappointed. the staff were very friendly and listened to my requests, i was comfortable for the whole four hours that i was there. their patience and diligence is amazing, along with it being a really nice and modern space. thank you guys read more

The Haircut itself was good, but the customer service was bad. She actually told me to hold on three different times she was cutting my hair and just left me their in the chair by myself while she went and helped someone else or talked with her hairstylist friends. I would rather have a mediocre hair cut at another salon with good customer service than a nice cut and feel like a second-class citizen. It's a shame. read more

I am new to Yelp and must say it is a great site. So far most of the reviews I have read are pretty accurate. I have been going to Hair Essentials for about 8 years now. I am a young woman and my hair is extremely important to me. I have had my hair done at other places (because I was in a party or what not and because that is where I was asked to have it done) but I am a regular at Hair essentials. I have seen it grow into the Salon that it is. It used to be located at the other end of the strip mall (Greenridge Shopping Plaza) and about 6 years ago moved into the larger space that it currently occupies I had started to use Nicole S about 5 years ago when my Stylist went on to have a family. Nicole is just an awesome person. I have YET find a stylist that can consistently do such an awesome job while maintaining a calm, down to earth demeanor. She clearly loves what she does and it shows in her work. I have yet seen such a clean neat non frizzy Up Do, and her regular color and cut is awesome.Not only do I see her on a biweekly basis but I recommend all Brides that I know use her for there hair if they want a stress free experience. I have had Up Do's done at other Salons on Staten Island as well as in Manhattan and Brooklyn, some expensive and really popular and some not so popular and expensive. STAY AWAY of this place. CHEAP PRODUCTS, DIRTY TOOLS. I WISH I WOULD NEVER WENT THERE. TERRIBLE experience ever for my whole entire life. The artist has no license probably, because she has no idea about makeup, skin tones and etc. Might be couple YouTube lessons that's all. She started doinng eyes first. Than base tone to my face. May skin tone is fair, she used nude ( maybe even dark nude) I asked something neutral for lipcolor she did brown. When she gave me a mirrow I was speechless. I looked at least 50 years older. She said it just seems to me. Make up was just terrible. I looked like racoon with sun burned face and that "gorgeous neutral" (brown) lipstick. She used cheapest products. Dirty cheapest plastic brushes. Everything was in makeup and dust. Even sponge what she used for me had been durty someones's dark skin tone make up already, disgusting. I can only imagine how many different kinds of infection you can get here. She applied lipstick with lipstick not with brush. Had she ever heard about herpes??? And all this pleasure for just 55$ with no lashes. Thanks God I didn't see them. ( They probably also used) Why for $ 55 for the moust 10 minutes, people cannot spend 5 more minutes to clean their tools? And spend $1 in next door store to buy sponge to avoid skin infections. Thanks God, I had 30 more min to clean my face from this nightmare, and put some sample makeup on. And I apologize that I was too upset to make a picture of all this. This was my first time at Hair Essentials Salon. The place is Beautiful and extremely clean! The service was so nice and welcoming. You feel like you are at home. I tried to do my hair on my own and it did not work out. I came in the salon with a head full of messed up colors. I looked like rainbow bright. When I met with this very nice hair dresser Carlie . she sat me down and asked me what I want. She recommended what she thought but it was mainly what I wanted. That is what you want in a Great Hairdresser. I told her what I wanted and took her advice and what she thought. She was quick and to the point. When my hair was done I was so HAPPY!! I really loved my hair done by Crista for my wedding. In regards to makeup, it came out nice but they didn't really listen to how I wanted my eye makeup done. I wanted mauve and nude colors and I felt she made my eyes silver and put a lot of eyeliner on me where I looked a little racoonish. I would definitely recommend hair being done there, but would reconsider where I got my makeup done. It seems like the makeup artist don't have a large selection of colors. read more

I cannot tell you how fooled I was reading reviews about this place. Please don't waste your time or money going here. I went in my first time for a blow out with some waves. The lady who did my hair obviously has never done my type of hair before. It was frizzy as hell and when she saw that I was not happy she tells me I need a haircut in order for it to look better. Ummm no sweetheart. I just cut my hair the week before fresh new layers. If she wasn't too busy chatting to the other girls what she wants to eat for lunch she would have noticed. She finally uses a curling iron cause she saw that she was not doing the hair correctly. Let me tell you, I have curly hair so if you blow it out right the curls will stay without. We'd if a curling iron. Also, instead of them being friendly since it's my first time they didn't even try to make conversation o retain me as a customer. Believe me I will never go back. I took my 7 year old son to get a haircut. The person who did his hair was great. So I figured I would go there to get my daughter hair done for prom. Worst mistake!! The person who did her hair was horrible!! She was rude, unfriendly, And didn't take any interested in doing her hair. We would talk to her and she would ignore us.
