Had a great "corrective" haircut with Jodi this past weekend. She spent time on my cut, asking questions and incorporating my answers into the actual cut. I left very happy and will definitely be going back for a color "correction" in the near term. The shop is small and quite lovely. Very clean! When everyone talks, and boy do the staff talk (:-), it can get very loud. The acoustics aren't great at all but it's not that huge a deal. The second best part of my visit, in addition to a really nice cut, was that the price for the cut and blow dry was about 1/2 of what I have been paying for years (for cuts of a much lesser quality). I was incredibly disappointed in this salon. After reading the reviews on here, I was incredibly eager to go . However, after having to constantly call them to set up an appointment (they don't return phone calls),and having to correct them several times on the services I'd need done, I was completely taken aback by the rude behavior by whom I was told is the owner. As a potential customer,ready to spend a lot on a treatment here,I would not consider them ever again, and cannot in good faith recommend them. UPDATE: If you need further proof of their un-professional behavior, the comment below speaks for itself. Calling out a fellow island salon, and attacking a person's review/views with this business indicates further reasons as to why this salon should not be frequented,and a clear lack of both respect and professionalism. I had to update my previous review because since then, i have gone back here twice for a haircut, and both times I have left so happy. My appointment was at 3:30, and I was shampooed and in the chair by 3:36. Once again I really can't stress enough how reasonable their prices are! At least for a haircut, I'm not sure about other services, though I can't imagine they would be much more expensive. Previous haircuts I got in Brooklyn cost me 60.00 and up, so to find a salon that I never need to wait to get an appointment, or need to wait once I get there, and that only charges me 20.00 is absolutely awesome. read more

I found this using yelp, because I was sick of paying high prices for a horrible color job. I found the place finally that can color your hair correctly and then they keep a card of what they did so next time you want the same color you dont have to go through crossing fingers hoping you picked out the correct color. And the price was under $40, which is how it supposed to be for full color job, not $100+ read more

First time I went in there, I left crying. Never Had I had a beautician make me feel pretty. I have health issues and take meds that have caused hair loss. Marie cut and styled my hair making the larger spots less noticeable and also had a hair fiber to fill in other smaller spots. For someone to do that after so many other salons just made me feel more self-conscious (and at twice the price I might add). Yesterday I had my appointment, everyone remembered me from previous visit, I was so relaxed just being in there. I spent more on non hair items then on my hair cut, it is such a relaxing, pleasant place to be. Again I left confidant and feeling pretty. Thank you everyone there, especially Marie!! read more

I love this place!!! I was sick of paying high prices and not getting what I wanted. I took a chance and gave them a call on a Saturday afternoon and asked if i could have a cut and root touch up. They gave me an appointment and took me as soon as I walked in - I had Helen and she is amazing! She gave me a great cut and touch up and yes I will be going back to her. I can't think of one bad thing to say about this salon! The service was amazing and the prices are soooo reasonable! The hair dressers care so much about their clients and only work to make them happy. They are also so funny, I feel like I am in a comedy club every time I am there! I can't imagine why there would be any bad reviews about Joseph Ashley. Some people don't recognize greatness when they see it! The owner is nothing but nice and has so much passion for her job. If I could give negative stars I would. I made a Yelp account explicitly to write a review on this salon because I was so dissatisfied. I asked to have my hair lighter and I left the salon with my hair considerably darker and uneven. The owner of the salon, Helen, was entirely unprofessional and RUDE. When I tried to explain politely why I was not satisfied, she refused to rectify the situation and instead told me it was not her problem. PLEASE do NOT give Joseph Ashley your business. read more

I got my hair done for the first time here and I absolutely love it. I have not one negative thing to say about this salon. The staff is very friendly and professional. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door and waited not even 5 minutes to be taken. It is clean and the prices are very reasonable. The stylist didn't rush and took her time with my hair. Great experience. Went today to get my 3 yo and 19 month old girls haircuts before Christmas. Called around, everyone was charging way too much for what I wanted done (just a trim for the both of them, my kids have very short hair). Helen was great, the kids enjoyed it, and I left there not feeling like I got ripped off and the place was very kid friendly, and the staff was very nice. Would def recommend it !! read more
