I've been visiting Greenlanes most weekends for two years now (and have just moved nearby), and it just continues to surprise and excite me. Hala has just opened up in the space left next by the departed Cafe Lime (next to Cafe Lemon, going for maximum imagination round these parts). The people here are incredibly friendly for starters. Imagine three rather worse for wear individuals bumbling into your restaurant at 9.30 on a Saturday night after a day at the cricket. Wearing penguin suits. Too many places would sneer or turn people away - this lot on the other hand furnished us with menus and helped us decide on a feast fit for a king (penguin). We chatted to the head chef who said he'd make us up the house special - mixed grill for two with a few extras to bump it up to feed three. We put away lots of bread, yoghurt and salad while we were waiting - the bread is as it is everywhere round these parts, soft and pillowy with just enough chew. The salad was great - refreshing with tomatoes, lemon juice and superb small olives. And then. Oh and then, the kebab arrived. I have never seen such a plate of beauty. We had a little of everything from the menu - chicken wings, lamb and chicken shish, proper bits of adana and lamb patties - my god, it was good. So so good. It all came in on a huge bed of fluffy and slightly creamy rice that I could have eaten on its own. We waddled off into the night as only drunk and stuffed penguins can. Very, very happy. Well done Hala.

The kids being fascinated by the ladies in the window making gozleme (as we found out when we went in), we decided to have a bit of tea here. The place used to be Cafe Lime and apart from the enormous cooking area that has now appeared, the decor is much the same, wooden panelling and muted colours. Being teatime, it was very busy but we didn't have to wait for either service or our food both of which were very good. We went for a big plate of Gozleme: Potato, Spinach, minced lamb, and cheese flavoured, washed down with the fanciest Ayrans on Green Lanes. All Delicious! The menu also has all the other stuff you might expect; kebebs, pide, meze, fish but a quick nose round the table and the speed with which the other customers finished them off suggested that the other food on offer was equally good. Price: 5 gozleme and 2 ayrans = £12. Highchair available and kids made very welcome.

I've only been to a handful of Turkish restaurants here in London as I'm still on a mission to find one that closely resembles the food I had in Turkey. I came here for a friends birthday as we lost our table from being overly fashionably late for a restaurant next door to this!lol! Nevertheless I love trying new places and so as soon as I stepped into this restaurant I was expecting good things from the immediate sight of fresh meat and veg on display. The menu is huge for you meat lovers out there but if fish is what your craving, I'm afraid you only have 3 dishes. However, the portion of fish you get is generous (from what I saw). As we were a large group, we usually expect to have a little bit of delay when we go out to eat, but oh my the service that night was really delayed. Though the food came out quite later after it was ordered, the staff were apologetic and polite about it so it wasn't too bad. We were also offered a dessert of rice pudding on the house to make up for the late arrival of a pida (Turkish pizza). Food wise, it wasn't what I had expected. I ordered a small lamb shish, which when it arrived I had been given a 'large' which seemed more like a small to medium portion. Chips were a little scarce on my plate, the meat was nice but maybe more effort on the garnishing of the plate would've made the dish more presentable (possibly a small salad on the side perhaps?). They also keep topping up the bread servings on the table which was a good touch (especially when your waiting for a while on your food). Oh! But be warned! One of my friends were very close to overpaying because they were told that their transactions didn't go through, even though the 2nd attempt was fine so just keep hold of your receipt! This could've just been a one time thing, but thought I'd mention it just incase I'd be up for trying somewhere different if I'm totally honest, but glad I tried nonetheless

Another Turkish restaurant growing in Harringay. Hala has make an extension to compete the other Turkish restaurant and closed for 2 months. After reopening, foods is still tasty and big portion. Set meals for the price below £40 for 4 persons come with free Turkish teas, free salads; and free breads. I have been tried many Turkish restaurants in Harringay green lanes. This is one of my favourite. Friendly staffs, cool decoration and nice foods. One of recommendation restaurant if you love meaty meaty foods.

    Paca soup

We visit this place a lot, not a bad meal here. Gozleme is always fresh and yummy. Paca soup is excellent. Only criticism is that icli kofte can be better-hope they are not using old mince meat-. They do daily meals as well. We like their complimentary deserts, something different and tasty. Staff is always welcoming. Highly recommended!

Although there are all the usual mixed feelings about gentrification, I can't say I'm not excited about the current influx of posh cafes and coffee shops just outside my door. EZ & Moss is a delightful new addition, serving up vegetarian & vegan fare (fantastic brunch!), great coffee and wonderful baked goods in an atmosphere that isn't "too" hipster - nowhere near the level of extreme hipster you'd find a few miles east. (Part of the reason I love Islington -- cool, but not too cool). The *only* reason it loses a star is because of the lack of meat on the menu -- I'm an unapologetic carnivore who is partial to a bit of bacon with my weekend brunch. The most amazing freshly baked Turkish bread is placed in front of you before the meal, along with a spicy tomato dip and olives. It's so good, it's hard to stop, and then there is no room left in your tummy for the feast of your main! Also, for drinks- the house red is quite tasty for the cheapest option. When I asked the waiter he said it was due to swapping it to eliminate the waste of people not eating all of it (no apology or offer of more toast, btw)...so? The cost should of been covered in the price you charge for it which is: £9.50!!! Change the price and menu if You are changing the meal, please. Was a perfect meal before and now it was a mound of mush with the only different texture being cubes of chorizo... The original review: Been here a half a dozen times already but I'm a bit lazy with reviews lately! Starting off with the food, delicious breakfasts, particularly like the eggs, bacon and Parmesan dish, they use good bread, no baked beans but a tasty posh version using chickpeas, flatmate really liked the Veg burger and is currently getting again. (This review is very much in the moment!) They have a burger menu that I'll be sampling for the first time today. Good coffee! It's kind of the only nice little cafe restaurant in the area so definitely recommend! This is sweet little cafe/restaurant, the premise being we are sat in view of the kitchen of a flat and we are eating home cooked food. Initial impressions is that it's nicely decorated, good lighting, brick wall adds some character and small garden of plants out the window to pretty up the view of Hornsey Road. The service is good hence the repeat visits so unless this particular dining experience goes completely wrong I'll def be coming back again

I had only a ten-quid note and so I made a deal with the owner to put together a nice selection for this money. Popping in I was stunned to see so many smoothie juice combinations on the board. Almost too much. Another customer spotted me. Must be a regular cos he said...it's a lot, but it's a lot of goodness. It's what you put into your body that makes you what you are. True I thought, and well said my friend. I noticed a meal deal to make it all the more easier. Phew I thought. £6 for a healthy wrap and a small smoothie. £8 for a salad bowl (8 different mixes) and a small smoothie. I opted for the former going all out healthy with a avocado, chicken and sun dried tomato wrap. They have other options to wrap but this is best way of lowering carbs and keeping the filling packed in. I also went for a beet, Apple, carrot, orange. No.14 in list which is called Beet basic. Fresh beet is rarely bought by people as opposed to cooked ones we get in supermarket so I wanted to get something I'd rarely make at home. It took a while to come. Maybe 15 mins after my juice came the wrap appeared. They were busy inside I do know that and I was going to say something but I realised they were making everything fresh. I say this because the chicken to my surprise and delight was nicely weak Inside with a very lightly toasted wrap with avocado and chilli sauce and sun dried tomato inside. It was perfect. A side of lettuce and olives too. The beet juice was fantastic. Can't help but think they should have named it Bettlejuice surely guys?! Overall I will definitely be back to sample more juices after the gym with some more food. The healthy food vibe seems to have finally spread this way in North London with numerous places popping up in Crouch End and Hornsey. And I mean a lot but I do love these options so very happy at these developments.

Now, my favourite item on the menu is the masala dosa. But really any dish has been tasty and I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes if you are with a group and then share it all.
