The service here is equally friendly with snappy reliable awesome food which is the best halal in the surrounding 4 neighborhoods (Madison, Homecrest, Midwood, Gravesend) says I after trying so very many vendors. NYCers know most halal carts have a unique variation stemming from their operators' varied origins, and the unique taste here is challenging to describe but one of more freshness and depth of flavor that's not masked by excess spices. Freshness is especially trying in COVID times as the turnover rate is down as are business financials. I am very intent on giving Best Halal my most honest representation and review so they improve their business, product, and publicity all. I've eaten here about 10x in the past 3y which is to say, too few, but everytime I, wife, and the family enjoy it so so much because everyone has a sharp detector for freshness which is tops here, even during COVID. It's a great relief to eat here especially lately when so many eateries have closed and we can't eat indoors so we're mostly grabbing and going for which Best Halal is perfectly long suited. Excellent signage is typically easy to read on the vinyl color wrap and the same as so many halal carts with a reduction in sheer width to focus on what he does best. There's call-ahead ordering for pickup to be more COVID compliant. He uses gloves uniquely for every order and was sanitizing aggressively even well before COVID. Pictured here is their "mix over rice" with big, steaming chunks of lamb and chicken, and the hot and delicious triangle samosas they've just recently added to the menu, made to order. 631-507-2618 is the published number and they accept phone orders, although you still need to pick it up yourself. There are naturally times when they're busier, during the peak of the lunch and dinner rush for instance. But preparation has always been surprisingly quick, in my experience. Usually open 7 days a week, late morning until around 9:00pm. Never super late; 10:00pm on weekends, all times approximate. Guy's name is Mohamed, and he and his sweet wife are from Bangladesh; she only works in the daytime. He has kids, lives nearby, and he owns the cart license/ business himself. Super nice people, a valuable part of the neighborhood, a fixture! He's been on this spot forever, and apparently is also allowed to leave the cart there overnight, on the sidewalk. Since it's also his business, sometimes they just choose to close; be aware. But he's open 95% of the time, during expected hours. I took these pictures at his request. My wife and I swung by, on a casual Sunday morning, and it was exactly where it was supposed to be located, on the corner of Coney Island Island Ave. and Brighten Beach Ave. As expected, there was no one waiting on the line on the busy street. What was surprising was that we were only charged $5 for each box of food! In the year of 2018, it's like finding gold when you find a halal cart that still sells chicken/lamb over rice for $5. By now, most carts are at $6 or even further north of that. So the verdict? Excellent quality! Being native New Yorkers, we considered ourselves halal cart food connoisseurs and Sammy's was right on with the best of them. We had a lamb over rice and a chicken over rice box and the meats were hot, fresh and tasty. The rice was also cooked perfectly. Besides the flavors, we loved the big portions too. We both added barbecue and white sauce onto our boxes of rice and the sauces were exactly as we have had elsewhere. Tip: Yes, barbecue and white sauce are the combination of sauces to go with! (not hot and white sauce) The bottom line is that you can trust the food quality and portions of rice from this halal truck. It's exactly what we were looking for. Yep, still one of the better BBQ meat on a stick carts around. The great thing about this place is that they marinate everything very well and it shows with each bite that you take. Once cooked over charcoal, they sprinkle a generous amount of cumin seasoning to everything then they ask if you want chili powder added on top of it. For me, the answer is always a yes for the chili powder. The choices on a stick here is beef, lamb, chicken wing, tofu, fish balls, and hot dog. My favorite is the lamb (really tender), but the tofu, beef, and chicken wing isn't too far behind. Everything is a dollar a stick except for the chicken wing, which costs $1.50 each. This is as cheap as good street food gets. It's very small though so it's only good for a snack or else you would have to buy a lot to fill yourself up.
