This had high ratings so obviously as the American savvy foodie, I took to yelp to get the key of the land. The best aspects of this bar is the decor, a lot of locals so you feel immersed in small town Germany culture. The local beer gaffel kolsch is pretty much the go to beer and is delightfully fresh light and the right amount of malt/hops ratio. This is a special brew local to cologne so try it out. Unfortunately I can't add stars because this place didn't produce the brew. So food.... I'm just going to say it is subpar to standard pub fare and would not come back unless I was a drunk mess. I ordered the salmon and my friend ordered the porterhouse steak. The food here is amazing, it's pricey, but I definitely left a happy camper. The salmon here is partially rare, which to me is the proper way to make salmon. It was also perfectly seasoned. Ugh, DELICIOUS. I also liked the touch of the carrots and the sweet sauce that they sat on, yum! My friend's steak was also melt in your mouth fabulous. It was medium rare, but did not bleed-- HOW DO THEY DO THAT? Whatever their chefs are doing, they are doing it right! The price is reasonable in comparison to the quality of food that you get.

It probably had one of the best views of the city, facing the Dom and the Hohenzollernbrücke. The music is very typically 'summer bar loungy', which suits the occasion. Prices are not cheap, but you don't have to pay an entrance fee, so that kind of compensates. If you want to enjoy some shade, you can sit at the tables with parasols. This was the perfect afternoon relax spot after walking through the entire city center.

I am not the sort to sing praises of many places, but Rheinterrassen is a 5-star wedding venue in Köln! Positives The people we were in contact with were wonderful!!! We were treated so well. We were not upsold. They told us what they offered, listened to our requests, provided honest feedback based on their experience, and informed us of the minimum charge based number of guests. We had a contact person (Frau Balz) who answered all our calls including questions up until wedding day. All questions, no matter how minor, were addressed with urgency and in a timely fashion. Food was wonderful. I feared the food on wedding day wouldn't be as good or plentiful as when we had our tasting but that was not an issue. In fact, during the tasting, there was a dish I thought was a bit salty so I made a comment to the chef. I was pleased to taste that issues was addressed on wedding day. The view across the Rhine River into Köln (highlighted by the Dom) is as good as it gets in the city Negatives I speak English but the preferred language is German. Yay for me; too bad for my German wife who did most of the coordinating. Washrooms are downstairs (away from reception area) and they are public toilets for use by the entire restaurant. Honestly, not a big deal but just an FYI. Of all the people we dealt with, there was only one person who was somewhat cranky. She was a bartender who started later on the evening of the wedding.
