Awful!!!! There is no worse feeling in the world than calling to check up on a dieing loved one to hear things like, I'm in so much pain! My nurse should have been here yesterday but never showed up! I can't go to the hospital to get out pain because they said I have to call them and they won't help me. They never submitted the papers for a care nurse. And my friend hasn't had a bath for 2 weeks because there's no body there to help him! It took a month to get a bed delivered, and nobody has ever considered getting him a walker. And icing on the cake they have done nothing to find him an impatient or long term facility. But why would you, if he were to go into a long term care facility you wouldn't get paid. I think it's shameful that you allow people to die alone and in pain. Additionally the case worker, didn't fill out the correct paperwork for his insurance. So at the last minute there's a jump through hoops to get the paperwork in last minute. I would never recommend this facility to someone I hated let alone someone I loved. Find a facility that cares and ensures your loved ones are cared for. Not this place. read more

My wife has end stage dementia. From the start, I kept being told what they could not do(I don't work those hours, for example). When our nurse(Victoria) called in sick the agency did not find an on call nurse. They also did not call me, so I had to call them and hold for 15 minutes. When the Nurse's aide did not show up, they had no idea and offered to reschedule. I had to explain to 4 different people why that would not work. The next week, the aide did not come out because she was not advised by management. She cam the next day because management did not originally put her on the schedule. The next week the nurse's aide was not aware she was now handling my wife's services and did not show. You only get to say "I'm sorry" so many times. I terminated the service. Their job is to make an end of life transition easier and less stress filled. In my case, they only added to the problem. read more

I found them to be unresponsive, duplicitous and not at all plugged into what my mother needed. I was told repeatedly my mother was getting sustenance and water and it turns out they never provided it. What was worse was they left directives that the local caregivers were not to do it. I asked for them to update my family when they visited which they never did. In a 5 month period, we went through 3 nurses. I had to find another Hospice group, which so far is doing what they say. They talk a good game but they can not execute. read more

I am deeply offended by the comments the owner makes to people who leave a negative review. You say they will help you improve, pure lip service! You've been in business long enough to have improved. When we call for help at the end of my husband's life and you tell us you don't have the staff for that, then you are NOT providing end of life care. I've used home hospice for mom and a nurse administered drugs and stayed with us until mom passed. You don't have staff! Does Medicare know that? You have caused much pain and suffering by not providing the service you are supposed to provide. read more

Halcyon Hospice is part of a mega-conglomerate called "Care Synergy" with multiple dba's in this area - The Denver Hospice, Halcyon Hospice, Colorado VNA, Pathways, etc. It's become a "big box" hospice marketing under different names in the front range. Decisions are money based rather than patient based. They cut experienced staff to the point that they are severely understaffed, in particular at night (often 1-2 nurses covering from Castle Rock to Greeley) and no spiritual care or mental health care available. If your loved one has a crisis and the nearest nurse is 60 miles away arriving at another patient's home, how well will you be served? Think twice before calling Halcyon or any of their affiliates. Be careful using this agency. They translate comfort care to how they can help you drive family members for expedited passing. They also say "we can't afford that" so even if your loved one as adequate medical insurance they will short change you. Be cautious and learn from our experiences. read more

We have always heard about how hospice can make final days into a more meaningful and comfortable experience for both patients and families. Halcyon did not do this. The intake and initial contact with the case manager was smooth and efficient, but the first hospice nurse we saw had a personality like a ton of bricks. He was Kevorkian-esque while talking about pain killers (my husband was still quite comfortable and conscious), to the point that it scared me. I called the case manager and thankfully, she was very responsive and assured me that the nurse would have no further contact with our family. The most distressing issue was in the moments after my husband's death. We had both stated very clearly - both verbally and in writing - that we were atheist and non-spiritual, but the nurse present pushed his philosophy that "he's done this job for 10+ years and knows that spiritual things are present after a person passes". This was MOMENTS after I saw my husband dead. It was absolutely, positively out of bounds. Halcyon also failed at family support follow-up. I had requested support from a therapist, but no one bothered to get back in touch with me for weeks, even though I had submitted all of the necessary counseling paperwork. In general, I feel that the experience of my husband's death would have been better without Halcyon. I hope that no other family has to have a similar experience with a hospice. read more

Halcyon hospice took away the last hours from family and friends of a wonderful person who was suffering from Pancreatic Cancer. They added more stress and pain that wasn't necessary in his last hours. I would never wish this type of suffering to anyone. read more

Struggle for a 1. Don't use if you love your loved one. Horrible. They disregarded my Dads wishes. When he was in the worst pain and Unconscience they gave him pills instead of liquid form which he desperately needed. He was in hospice 1 day before he died. After he passed there was no follow up but a cheap chard a few weeks after he passed. To this day I continue to get a bill even thought he had Medicare. I have called several times to get it resolved with no call back. Every time I get the bill it is forced to relive it and feels like being assaulted each month with no call back. You would be better off shooting your loved one then use this money making scam. read more

I'm sorry to read Sandy's experience with her loved one and her loss. Our experience with Halcyon was incredibly helpful. Our father was ini a VA nursing home where the care was less than safe, trustworthy, honest or caring. It took them over a year to get Dad hearing aids, failed to give him the appropriate meds prescribed by a neurologist and the exhausting list went on. The family literally took over in getting the things he needed. Anyway, during Dad's last week on Earth, we relocated him to a different facility 'ourselves' to oversee his care and so he would be closer to us (much to the VA's chagrin, big wonder why they didn't want him leaving). When we took him to the new care center, Halycon was there within an hour, ordered a high back wheelchair, a wave bed and all else he needed. To see how much faster a private organization can move than a government taxpayer-funded VA was mind boggling. I can't understand why people want bigger government or socialized healthcare - it will only severely diminish the present care we have to below subpar. read more
