Avoid the Haley at all cost! I made a one-night stay reservation through Airbnb using Apple Pay one week prior to stay. The day prior to reservation, they offered express check-in but it required a credit card. Not thinking much of it, I entered all requested info and within one hour, I get a charge notification for the same amount on my second credit card. I messaged the Haley staff about the double charge and within 30 minutes, they responded to my message directing me to address the issue with Airbnb customer service. Their switch and bait tactic was disingenuous. Truly disheartening!

This hotel is right in the heart of DT Santa Barbara. It's conveniently located to all the eateries and make it easy for you to walk around. The hotel rooms are cute, but super small. There isn't a working space for you to have your laptop up in the room, but they do have outdoor space for you to work. They have a large chess set and games for you to hangout in the courtyard as well. They offer some fruit and free coffee from 8-11am as well. 1-star less because the customer service at the front desk could've been a little nicer! Overall, not a bad hotel to stay in.

I was skeptical to book this hotel based on the reviews. I went on to the website and noticed the booking was a little different in a sense you picked your room number. But learned it didn't matter what was selected, I got two completely different rooms. I had friends coming in from out of state and they loved it. It's a cute boutique hotel. Great location. Expect noise, you are by the busiest locations. I am sure they have had a lot of complaints since they do provide ear plugs. The grounds itself are nice. Staff is pretty much nonexistent, which was fine with me. Check in and open key app worked fine. I didn't mind that. The only issue I had was the booking rate. Wait last minute if you can. I booked three days before our stay. Price dropped drastically the day before. I called to get it adjusted and was told I could not cancel and I could not get a price adjustment m. I sent an email but received no response. So if you want to chance it, wait to book for the very best rate. I wish I would have waited considering I'm pretty local. Disappointed in their unwillingness to accommodate or adjust but I guess that's just business. Overall room was clean and in a great location with a great vibe. I'd stay here again.

So we came here to bring in the New Year. It's a quick walk to State streets and that's where you have many delicious eateries and plenty of bars to go barhopping. They don't have parking but they have an adjacent parking lot that is next door.Parking, is $25 a day. If you have a lot of suitcases and tend to overpack like myself it kind of sucks because they do not have a hotel bell cart. I highly recommend that they get a couple. It will be a huge plus especially for families with children. The property itself is beach themed which I love. They also have plenty of activities outside to enjoy like a giant outdoor chess set, and various other games to enjoy. They also have a seating area with a fire pit table. Our room was pretty small but cozy and it had one of those faux fireplace heaters. It had hardwood floors .Our room did not have a closet but it did have hooks around the room where you can hang a few items. The bathroom itself is tiny and there is no sink in there. The sink is nearby just outside of the bathroom. The shower is a nice size and they do have full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. It was extremely convenient and my husband ended up using that instead of the one that we brought with us. Overall, a very great experience and thank you to Martha who ran the front desk. She was extremely helpful. In the bathroom they just gave us a minimum amount of towels but that was okay I did request more for the next day. The bed was super comfy and I had no complaints about it. The only complaint that I had was when I went downstairs to get some ice they had a huge freezer for ice. I did bring my little ice container that they provide and when I went to go get ice they only had barely enough to fill up my little container halfway. I do recommend that they get one of those hotel ice makers.

Cool little hanging chairs, we enjoyed these

Ok so I was almost going to give a 4 star but changed my mind after thinking about all the extras outside and how close it is to the restaurants and bars. Like a two minute walk...so to start with yes this is more a motel than a hotel, but it's re done and more like a boutique motel. The staff apparently leaves for the night so there isn't any real service if you need something so plan ahead. We did a self check And the key is an app u can just lit up to the door to unlock it, so no direct contact with anyone. There is a huge ice chest with ice, there are extra towels and cups around the outside if u need to grab one. There is a great ambience at night, a fire pit with seats (but closes at 10:30pm) a sitting area with a propane fire going. There games like connect four, chess, and honestly just hanging out there was nice after we got back from the bars. The rooms are a little small, but very comfortable and clean, for two people it's perfect. The rooms are a little pricey but you're really paying for the location and all the little things to do around there. Would def go back again if we choose to go to Santa Barbara in the future, but plan ahead I believe there's only like 15 rooms in the whole motel.

We had a nice, quick 1-night stay in Room #6. Great location, just 1 block from State Street; walking distance to everything. Room had fun, colorful, beachy vibe, and nice touches like coffee, tea, and honey. The gal at the front desk said the air conditioning worked and was set to 65, but it definitely did not. Fortunately, it got cooler in the evening and we opened all the windows and door to cool the room off. Then slept with the windows open. Not too loud, at least when we were there. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed here in July 2020 for one night (thank god). It would have been a really good stay except for the smoke alarm gone rogue. Hotel is cute and hip, a remodeled former motel. Easy to walk to restaurants, bars, etc. Rooms were small but good enough for 1-2 people. They had lots of things to do in the outside common areas (outdoor games, hammocks, drinking areas). The really bad part came around 5am when the smoke alarm in my room went off. There wasn't anything around that should have triggered it, but it was triggered. I tried fanning it but that didn't work. Finally, after about 15 mins of blaring (it's not just a beeping sound), it stopped on its own. Still, it ruined my sleep, especially since I'd been lacking sleep the previous two nights and wanted some Zzzs. I tried to get back to sleep when it went off again at 6am. I finally went to the front desk and asked to be transferred. The woman said that unfortunately, they were fully booked. I asked that they send someone to fix the issue asap but she said she needed to wait for the person replacing her on the next ship. I had no choice but to sit outside just to wait for the alarm to go away. Even other hotel guests started coming out of their rooms to find out what was going on. I was beyond sleepy and exhausted and had to make do with trying to sleep on an outdoor hammock. About 30 mins later, I checked the lobby again and found the person on a new shift. I explained the issue again but she said they didn't really have anyone at maintenance available. How is that possible?! At this point, I figured no one was going to help me so I went back to the room to get whatever amount of sleep I could before checking out and driving back to LA. Alarm went off again after an hour but stopped after that. When I checked out, there was no apology or even acknowledgment of the issue. One would think they would do so and at least try to make amends with a discount or a voucher or something. The hotel really needs to invest in training their staff on how to handle incidents as well as in the area of client service. I would have rated them higher if they only did something to right the wrong.

The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

It is not, however, somewhere I would personally recommend unless you are mainly looking for a place to crash. We booked a room over the phone the same day we arrived and were happy to receive a discount, which brought the total to just over $300 after fees. Having been away from Santa Barbara for many years, we were excited to have a restful and celebratory evening and trusted the internet's recommendation of this place. The service was nice enough when we arrived, but the lack of amenities and the quality of the bed and pillows were a real letdown. I wish I had called the other hotels nearby to ask about their rates before committing, but we were on a road trip and didn't have the patience. Our room was modern and clean, but it faced and was right above aneighboring parking lot, and that combined with the street noise, was not especially conducive to rest. The AC unit also made a remarkable amount of noise. It did not bother me too much, but for light sleepers it could be a challenge. The best parts were the exterior, which feels very Santa Barbara, the free parking, and the complimentary pastries at breakfast. That said, there are several inns and hotels around the same rate, or sometimes only $50-$80 more after fees and parking, that offer on-property bars, restaurants, pools, and amenities I had assumed were fairly standard at a $300-a-night inn or hotel, including things as simple as Q-tips and comfortable pillows, and bathroom doors which actually insulate your private moments from the rest of the room. We should have done more research beforehand and noticed that this place did not have a pool or any facilities beyond a vending machine. However, it appeared in online results alongside full-service hotels rather than motels, so I expected a little more. My primary complaint is the bed and pillows. The pillows were barely more than bags filled with an extremely lightweight, shapeless foam material, and the mattress sank so deeply that the bed felt more like a nice pull-out couch than a proper hotel bed. The pillows reminded me of what I bought at Target for $11 before moving into my college dorm room. Fine in a motel for $150/ night, disappointing for twice that. The free parking seems to be a major draw, and it is certainly convenient, but I would still encourage people to explore other options if they have an extra $50-$80 to spend and care about the quality of the room where they spend the night. With one exception, the nearest restaurants and bars are about a 10-15-minute walk away. State Street is at least a 12-minute, 0.6-mile walk, while many other inns and hotels in the area have bars and food on the property or immediately nearby. The beach is technically one block away, although this property is toward the far end of it rather than near the main activity. We ended up ubering from state street back to the hotel. I think that if you are traveling with children, do not need many hotel amenities, or are really just looking for somewhere clean and convenient to sleep, this is a perfectly fine spot. I also should have done more research beforehand, and I cannot blame the property for amenities it never claimed to offer. Still, I do think its surprisingly glowing online reputation creates expectations that the actual experience does not truly meet. In my opinion i would describe this place as a nice, well-kept two-star inn /motel, and if that is what you are looking for, it could be a lovely choice. Many other guests were happy and that is certainly worth something.

We were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. The room location was very quite, no noise issues. Plenty of room in the living room, bathroom and bedroom, a lot of charm. The rooms seem very clean and well equipped with a mini refrigerator Nespresso machine and robes. The only item missing oddly in the rooms are hotel luggage racks. We went up to the roof to see the pool, looked nice, it was empty due to the cooler weather temps in Santa Barbara during our stay. We did enjoy the "Wine Happy Hour" and the complementary Coffee station in the morning. There are ice machines on every floor and on the ice machine you can also get filter water for your water bottles. To note: it is a dog loving paradise at the hotel, dogs everywhere, big dogs little dogs, I love dogs so I had fun watching all of them. OK, so our only 2 criticisms are is the fee for parking per day $55... crazy! The second criticism is why can't the hotel spare space for a small gym? Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. If you need a pet friendly, walkable place to stay, and you aren't on a super tight budget, I would definitely recommend looking into this hotel.

Beautiful outside property, poor customer service for our anniversary…read more Pros- There were a few positives during our stay. The bed was very comfortable, the evening wine and cheese service was a nice touch, and the continental breakfast had a decent selection of pastries. There is a pretty courtyard in the front with comfortable outdoor furniture. Also, the room we had included a little kitchen with a stove and full fridge. CONS- Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The room had a damp, musty smell and the towels were rough and uncomfortable. The biggest issue was that the hotel was renovating the room directly next to ours. We endured CONSTANT construction noise and workers yelling throughout the day, and it continued well into the evening. My husband and I brought the issue to the attention of the front desk three separate times, both to daytime and evening attendants. Each time we were told, "I'll let the manager know." Unfortunately, we never heard from the manager, no one followed up with us, and nothing was done to address the situation. The noise continued for all the days we were here. We were not offered another room, an apology, or any form of compensation. Even a simple gesture, such as a complimentary bottle of wine, would have shown that the hotel cared about our experience, but nothing at all was offered. In fact we were told by the female evening attendant to "Contact your booking agency to complain". To make matters worse, one of the reasons we booked this hotel was the advertised back patio, but it was not accessible during our stay. If an advertised amenity is unavailable, guests should be informed before booking. If a hotel is undergoing renovations, guests should either be notified in advance or not placed directly next to active construction. Between the constant noise, the musty room, the unavailable amenity, and the complete lack of customer service and follow-through, this stay fell far below expectations. Truthfully, we would have stayed here again if the manager or staff showed any kind of care for the situation. I cannot recommend staying here.

Perfect anniversary stay -- peaceful, friendly, and right on the beach…read more We stayed at Santa Barbara Inn for our 25th anniversary and paid for the beachside view. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. If you're looking for a peaceful, clean, friendly place that's perfect for couples or a special occasion, this is absolutely the place.

never giving this pretentious place a penny ever again…read more nothing like traveling for hours, finally getting to your destination, and having the rudest staff harass you, waiting for your bf to come out to the patio area. this hotel is the dead zone of phone service, so how am supposed to let my bf know i'm being kicked out of an empty patio area we agreed to meet at? i stand by the front door of the hotel entrance to wait, but no, once again asked to leave. guess after traveling for hours, my biggest concern should have been getting glam, so i can be allowed to stand by a entrance. this horrible service is as bad as the gap under our room door. nothing like wanting a good night's sleep, but all you hear is the banging and clanking at 6 am from the housekeeping staff. way too many cute, boutique places in sb to have to deal with this attitude and lack of hospitality.

We stayed here for 4 nights while attending a conference…read more Pros: Great location, right across the street from the beach, the room was spacious, the pool was nice, the greenery was typically nice and maintained. The lobby looked clean and nice. Cons: Saying that this resort needs a refresh may be an understatement. Perhaps saying the report needs a full remodel may be a more accurate statement. There was mold in the bathroom and in the ceiling tiles, the carpet was stained in our room, the decor was dated, the parking lot needs to be repaved, and basically many of the small/finishing touches are worn, broken, chipping, faded, etc. The customer service is bad. We had our room "cleaned" daily and on one occasion they did not replenish our bath towels. I called the front desk to request towels, and I was on hold for 30 minutes before I decided to hang up. We ended up walking to the pool, and grabbing beach/pool towels. We will not return.

It took quite some time to get through check in as both employees were very slow and the process appeared to be outdated and inefficient. After check in we went to the Set restaurant for a bite to eat while we waited for our room to become available. We waited at the restaurant check in while several employees walked by ignoring us for several minutes. Eventually one of the employees who had walked by us a couple of times finally showed us to a table. We were at the table for over 6 minutes before contacted by our server (she was very pleasant). We noticed a charge to our credit card of approximately $200 more than our stated total. I assumed this was a security deposit. I attempted to phone the front desk, on several occasions however the AI attendant continued to advise that all front desk personnel were busy helping other guests and AI could help. When I advised AI what I needed they attempted to send me to accounting or finance, not sure which but there was no answer. The following day I went to the front desk in person to ask about the $200. When I entered the lobby I was first in line and three employees were helping other guests. When the first employee finished she stared at her computer for a minute or two, looked up at me and walked into the back room. A second employee then finished with his guest (now there were three other guests besides myself in line) and he too ignored us all and walked into the back room. About 7 minutes later the first employee returned and assisted me. When I inquired as to the $200 increase on the credit card and mentioned could it be the deposit, she said they charge $150 a night (we were staying 2 nights) so the charge should be an extra $300 that will eventually come off the bill. When I asked why it shows up on your invoice as $200, she couldn't say. I asked if I could check my room bill from the tv in our room, she said no. We then went to the Set restaurant for dessert. When we arrived there were about 7 people at the bar and 6 parties total at the various tables inside and out. Guessing about 20% occupancy. After 3-4 minutes the hostess came up and asked how many in our party (3) she said the servers told her they were backed up and to hold any new customers for 10 minutes. We told her we were here just for dessert. She checked with the servers again and they told her we still had to wait. After approximately 8 minutes we were seated. Housekeeping has been fantastic. However, the Set restaurant and Front desk staff did not deliver. For a four star property the customer service was atrocious and very disappointing. No communication from the front desk, you can't make eye contact with a customer then leave the room with speaking. The restaurant crew was more concerned with the group at the bar and engaging with them than assisting other customers.

4.5/5 stars! Stayed for a quick weekend getaway at the start of summer and had a great time…read more Stayed in room 314 Pros: - GREAT location. Literally around the corner was State Street which is full of restaurants and ships. A nice 15 min walk to the pier - Room 314 had beautiful huge windows that overlooked the street - Staff are all very friendly and professional - Cute outdoor balcony/patio area on the 2nd floor, right off the elevator. Nice comfy outdoor couches, chairs, tables. Shaded and cool. It was a great spot for a quick afternoon drink, or if you need to do some work. We were the only ones there both times we went during the weekend - Lobby was small but very cute - Free bikes for rent (see picture)? DTSB is very bike friendly so it was a great way to get around - Valet used a text service (scan the QR code on your ticket to text the valet to bring your car around), so minimal wait time - Room had a really nice sized drink fridge. I was able to put in an entire pizza box - 2 sinks - Keurig coffee machine in room - Smart TV, I was able to sign into my streaming services - Lobby has a small bar that served coffee and continental brekkie for a fee - Relatively quiet on the 3rd floor. My room was right off the elevator and you could definitely hear some people walking to and from, but honestly pretty quiet. The ice machine was across the hall and that could be noisy but I only heard 1 person getting ice my entire stay Cons: - I can only speak for the room I booked 314, but the shower was a stall with the dreaded flappy shower curtain. If you're uncoordinated (like me) or big and tall, you will definitely feel the slap of that wet curtain on your body while showering - So the showerhead was actually leaking, spraying water above the showerhead onto the ceiling. It not worth my complaining or changing rooms, so I never said anything, but the last morning, before I checked out, it miraculously stopped spraying water. - If you're sensitive to city noises I suggest opting for a room that overlooks the hotels parking lot, away from the street. Our room faced the street right above corner on State Street and Haley, and even being on the 3rd floor, we definitely heard some night life noises - Expensive! This was on the pricey side but, due to location. I thought it was definitely worth it - The hotel is definitely older, but they worked hard to renovate it. It's not just a motel with a facelift - No pool, but the beach is just a 15 min walk away Tips: - Definitely sign up for the Hilton honors app, it'll make it easy to check in and you can pick your own room, get room key access, and check out, etc Would I come again? Yes

The one downfall of this hotel is breakfast. This hotel gives you the option of points or credit toward breakfast. Definitely take the points. One morning there was only 1 person working breakfast and she could not handle working the floor, the second day I guess the breakfast staff called in sick, because they were closed. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes just down the block from the hotel. So, just don't go into the expectation that there is a restaurant at this hotel.
