Hole in the wall empanada place located pretty conveniently near MetroHealth main campus. This is definitely one of the best empanada places in Cleveland. You can seem them being made fresh in the back, and the staff seem like they're happy which is always a great sign. I think the traditional ones are more worth it than the open faced ones, but you can't go wrong with most things on the menu. It's more of a grab and go type place, and the food usually comes out pretty fast. Only complaint is I've noticed the serving sizes are slowly getting smaller, but that seems to be the trend everywhere. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

My sister told me about this place and I was so excited to try it out. My friend and I went in this morning to grab some stuff. I ended up getting the beef empanada and a chicken empanada as well as a strawberry shortcake type dessert. Haven't tried that yet but the empanadas were really good. My friends daughter couldn't find anything that she wanted so she got French fries. I had to try one since they smelled so good. They were good and very fresh. I would recommend trying it out. They are a bit on the slow side but the food is fresh.

I stopped at Half Moon Bakery one day on a whim! Now I can't stop going back! This family owned business has great desserts as well as savory empanadas! To begin, one of my favorite things is their tres leches cake. They have a huge variety! My favorite is the strawberry or the pineapple coconut! I also think their dulce de leche cupcakes are the best! So good! Their empanadas are amazing as well! They're packed full of yummy ingredients and so tasty! I love the ones that incorporate garlic oil! Delicious! The owners and staff are so friendly and kind. The atmosphere is great! I'd recommend everyone make a trip to this bakery! You won't be sorry!

A small cozy bakery located on a corner across from the hospital, Half Moon Bakery is very easy to miss if you're not paying attention. In fact, my girlfriend worked at the hospital for years and never knew it existed. But after you taste the food, the only thing you will miss is the time you went without knowing about this hidden gem that I found on Yelp. She craves this religiously now, as do I. In terms of actual sweets, they have plenty and can live up to their name. Ranging from Latin style deserts to your everyday cupcake. The sweets are good but the made to order fresh warm items are to rave about. I day dream about their Empanadas. Easily a local favorite. The establishment is family owned, to the point a kid might be taking your order. But, don't panic. They know what they are doing and can probably slang an empanada better than your granny. Consistency is on point. They are awesome. I go here all the time and have never been let down. The food is always fresh. Each order feels like it's made individually with love. Sometimes their crowded but it's always worth the wait. Usually it's pretty fast and the prices are relatively cheap. $2-3 a piece. Higher for fries and salad. Recommend 2-3 for female and 3-5 for male depending how you eat to consider it a full meal but they are very filling. They have plenty of options to serve whatever your preference is. I have tried everything and I would have to say Beef is our favorite but you can't go wrong with any of them. I like the sauces as well because I am a sauce guy but you could easily do without. Everything, quite literally everything, on the menu is good. Haven't tried a whole on the bakery side but always looks great and the few items I had were good but nothing to brag home about.

I've never tried an empanada before until I came to half moon, and I will only ever eat them from half moon for here on out! As a vegetarian, I wasn't sure what my options I'd be getting but there were two wildly different ones on the menu that were absolutely AMAZING. You enter half moon, you are greeted so kindly, you order, and like 5 bakers pop out of no where and start absolutely slinging empanadas at lightning speed. Never seen a phenomenon like it, it was amazing. I waited maybe 10 minutes max for them to be completely made, and they are made from scratch! There are also baked goods, salad options, and coffee options as well. Half moon will now become a staple in my quick but local diet, and for that I'm thankful.

Hal Moon's empanadas are just what the MetroHealth doctors ordered to liven up the minimal food options surrounding the hospital. Located just a stone's throw from the outpatient clinics and conveniently close to Highway 71, this storefront is deceptively small for the growing and fiercely loyal customer base. You can stuff yourself with delicious blends of crispy shell, juicy chicken, and spunky salsa for minimal strain on your wallet. You'll find limited street parking on W 25th directly in front of the shop, but it's pretty easy to find a spot on one of the side residential streets to conduct business here. My go to choices are the Chicken Argentina Empanada and Crispy Pork Lettuce Wraps. You can't beat the balance of flavor, texture, and portion sizes of the lettuce wraps - but don't attempt to do any critical thinking through the food coma. I was a little disappointed by the Chorizo Empanada as it was more sauce than ground meat, but would happily eat their Asian and Pepperoni Pizza Empanadas all day too. The actual shop is very cute and renovated, with a fair bit of retail space devoted to pastries. I've only sampled the Quesitos and cupcakes but both were infused with the same quality and rich flavor of their savory offerings. Even before the COVID-times, most business was designed for takeaway and there's no seating to dine inside at present. I recommend calling ahead to place your order and picking up to minimize potential time spent with others also ordering food, but it's hard to browse the desserts that way. Once you're a regular though, you won't run into that problem anymore. ;)

Everyone might think your actually eating good & healthy Puerto Rican empanadas but is completely the opposite this place is infected with rats mise & cockroach every morning before we open usually find 3 o 4 dead mise on a spot roaches walking all over the backery the cooler has a hole where rats & mise goes in & ruin the food & Pastries, oh & not just talking shit I work for the place a never again got to step a foot again here is you want to get some real Puerto Rican food go somewhere cleaner like villas or Ricoh criollo take 2. I only wish I had pictures of the mise & rats & cockroaches

AMAZING, amazing food, customer service & cleanliness. I was very hesitant on getting the empanadilla because it had chopped onions & green peppers I don't like them but the young lady who attended assured me you couldn't taste them but to my amazement it was very delicious the dough was very crisp. The Cuban sandwich was phenomenal just the right amount of meat ratio to bread amount of meat ratio to bread which is baked in house very delicious crispy yet tender inside, the mustard complemented well just add a few slices of pickles would be great, we just picked a few off. Hand cut fries were fresh as it can be crispy but soft on the inside they had a mango peach fruit drink which was great, Flan was on point. Everything were had was very flavorful not short in flavor... This place is at a prime location across the street from MetroHealth Med Center. If you are at an appointment or work at Metro have lunch here I guarantee you won't be disappointed, I see this place being very busy in the near future, I wish them the best of luck, we certainly will be back, this place is an up & coming spot rivaling others around town even the ones that are reputable with in miles from here. ***BUEN PROVECHO***

I'm ashamed to admit that I was clueless as to the existence of this place having passed by it countless times; however as they say it's better late than never! One morning as was heading back to work I noticed the signage and was immediately enthused with intrigue. I walked in and was pleasantly delighted at the sight of sweet concoctions and freshly made items. This is by all accounts a Spanish/Latin bakery, with tempting items such as empanadas, sandwiches, bread, and a host of decadent sweets (tres leches, flan, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and donuts). There was a short line but I didn't wait long as one of the attentive employees took my order. Having an insatiable sweet tooth, I went with a tres leches and opted for a chicken sandwich. To say that both were excellent would be a grave understatement - they were superbly spectacular and oozed with flavor! But that's not the best part, the prices are reasonable and won't put a hole in your wallet.

The quesitos are amazing and i ordered a dozen for a presentation on Puerto Rican coffee i was doing and they came delivered hot and fresh even after a ways travel with delivery! They paired so amazingly with my coffee and i will be a repeat customer! read more

I honestly cannot think of a single bad thing to say about this place. I'm extremely particular about takeout in general, but honestly I feel as though Half Moon has really secured a spot in my top takeout choices. It has the advantage of being in a great location, offering the centrality of being on West 25th, but it's on the Southern end near Metro hospital, offering a little more convenience in terms of parking. Their parking lot is small, and honestly quite rough with lots of potholes, but it is nice to not have to find street parking. Both times I ordered takeout from here (lunch and dinner), I was quoted 20 minutes and my food was ready as soon as I arrived, which I have to say is much appreciated. I do notice they get a pretty decently sized lunch crowd, something to be aware of in terms of calling ahead and social distancing. I do wish they offered more extended hours in the evening to accommodate dinner orders, currently they close at 6pm. As for the food, all I can say is that I'm so impressed with how fresh and delicious everything I've tried is. I've tried several of their empanadas, and they are deliciously crispy and if you get their specialty empanadas, well-layered with toppings and sauce. It's all the crunchiness you love in a hard taco, without all the mess! My favorites are definitely the chicken taco and the Columbiana (which has an interesting masa filling similar to an arepa on the inside). All of their empanadas are priced at $3-$4 each, and I would say 3 empanadas is probably a good portion size for an average appetite. I also tried their Cubano sandwich, it's not something I would come back for, but I can say the sandwich was very generous for the size ($10.99) and could easily feed two given the portion. In addition, their fries are also a great addition to the menu. I usually don't like fresh cut style fries because they tend to be soggy, but theirs are nice and crispy. I even upgraded to the Chipotle fries ($1 surcharge with their sandwiches) and I was so impressed that despite being loaded with cheese and sauce, the fries stayed decently crispy. I also can't leave this review without mentioning their sauces and drinks, both definitely worth getting to compliment your entree! The sauces are $.50 surcharge; I am not sure if they are made in house, but from what I tried (avocado aji, tomato garlic, aoli) they are super unique and punchy. The drinks are also really fruity without being overly sweet. Oh... and did I mention they offer a variety of desserts made in house? There's so much to choose from here, I definitely see this place being a regular in my rotation. Decent price, convenient and efficient takeout, and freshly made food definitely makes this a winner in my book. read more

Half Moon Bakery - or Bella Luna now, is a local gem! They make everything to order so it may take a little patience, and of course the line is always long. Best tres leches cake I have every had, and their guava pastries are delightful. Their sandwiches and empanadas are all superb. Do yourself a favor and stop in. The food is made from scratch and to order. It's absolutely delicious. I challenge anyone to find a better empanada, especially with these creative fillings! The baked goods are wonderful and unlike most places, priced so reasonably you can buy a whole box of them! And the staff? The nicest around. Seriously. These folks are top notch. They overcame many obstacles to get the shop open and never gave up on their dreams. We are so very lucky to have them in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood! read more

This restaurant is part of my eat at "under 100 reviews" tour. I've basically tried every empanada and sandwich at this spot, all delicious. If you get a sandwich, upgrade the fries to chipotle fries for a $1 more; absolutely worth it. The "open faced" empanadas are basically fried dough tacos, which anyone would be a fan of. They have ~6 tres leches flavors; I like the strawberry the most so far. I will say, this isn't their strongest item on the menu, but still delicious! read more

My son and I stopped in the Half Moon Bakery this morning around 9:30 AM. We were the ONLY ones in there. There were THREE women behind the counter and NO ONE even acknowledged us. We waited THREE MINUTES on the clock. I understand if one of them was doing something and could not stop, but two of the three switched tasks. Customer service goes a long way, and this place does not understand that simple concept of acknowledging the customer. This may be the best new food spot of 2020 in CLE. I'll start with the empanadas. They are large and filling and there is quite an assortment. My favorite is the taco empanada. I'm usually not a ground beef fan but this had all the hallmarks of a taco - shredded lettuce, ground beef, generous helping of cheese, etc. IN AN EMPANADA! It's slightly open face. I smashed mine fast so no pics to show right now lol Asian empanada was wonderful too. Lots of flavors and the slaw was a tasty crunchy complement. Now moving on to the dessert. There are cupcakes. And I don't mean basic ones. I had a strawberry lemonade cupcake that was phenomenal. It was both tasty and beautifully decorated. The complexities of something as simple as a cupcake - which was ridiculously reasonably priced - is going to be lost on me but I'll give it a shot. There was a generous amount of frosting on the cupcake and it had the sweet and sour that strawberry lemonade should have. In addition, the cake itself was moist and light. The frosting was creamy and packed with flavor. I have been craving Half Moon since I last had it two days ago. Can't wait to go back. read more

Very unassuming place but those empanadas are MOUTH WATERING. I've tried a good variety but am a fierce and loyal supporter of the chicken and the beef Argentina open faced empanadas. The chicken might even be better than the beef and i love beef. The chicken is so well seasoned. And that aioli type sauce is so good. Always amazing tomatoes and so fresh. One of my favorite places. Every time i go i look at the desserts but exercise restraint. One of these days I'll cave because their tres leches and other cakes looks amazingggg. read more

Got the Cuban sandwich and chipotle fries. Seriously, you can get two meals from the portions they give you! Only $11 for so much food. And it's amazing. One of the best sandwiches in the Cleveland area. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. I hear the Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake is fantastic. read more

Once again I must say half-moon bakery makes a great Cuban sandwich among other things and their pastry is out of this world they have empanadas tacos and they have vegan gluten-free they have stuff for everybody here you will not be disappointing the staff is friendly there's no eating inside but you can always buy it here and take it to the lake but five STARS read more

Went to try their empanadas and they did not disappoint. Had the vegetarian + Asian flavors and they had a sauce that came with it. They were very good and tasted very fresh. They also have a array of baked foods to choose from along with drinks. It is located across the street from Metro Hospital and there is plenty of parking. A neighborhood spot I was happy to stumble into! Got a few empanadas and was pleasantly surprised they were better than ones I've had not only in Cleveland but elsewhere. Since we've had all three of our children at Metro across the street, and frequent the Cleveland Zoo, we find ourselves stopping by this bakery often. While it is a bakery, it's really all about the empanadas here, all of which are delicious. We've also had breakfast takeout (burrito is great) and sandwiches for lunch (all are huge and delish). Now I just wished they'd fix their parking lot! read more

Literally the best. I've tried maybe 5 bakery items and they all are sooo good. Everything is made in store, donuts, cakes, straddles, including the bread used for sandwiches. I also always get the breakfast sandwich, add bacon, and it has never disappointed. Their other lunch items also look delicious, excited to try them. 110% recommend. Yes the parking lot has potholes, but I'm going for the food. read more

Great empanadas! It has an American twist to it (ie tacos empanadas, etc) but the taste is very good. I enjoyed the chicken tacos empanada and the chicken argentina tacos. I also likes their french fries loaded with toppings. They also serve desserts and other typical latin food (cuban sandwiches, arroz con pollo, sancocho)- which i haven't tasted yet. Looking forward to it though based on how solid/good the empanadas were! Will be back soon. read more

The guacamole trio, flautas, remolacha, salsa and chips, and drinks. We were there to celebrate a birthday and I asked staff (maybe a manager) if they do anything to celebrate. He mentioned they have a fried ice cream and can put a candle in it. I hadn't confirmed what dessert we planned to order, but before I knew it they came around with the fried ice cream and candle. So, we got to try that. Overall, good food.

I just love the story; this brewery is downtown in a huge building that looks almost too big for what's inside. It's an old newspaper building, hence Masthead. But even more fun, the original name of the city was "Cleaveland" but it couldn't fit on the newspaper masthead, so they simply shortened it to "Cleveland" and here we are today. The brewery name is in reference to these stories. They have a ton of seating, and a well planned ordering area as you enter. They have high tops, bar seating, and huge long tables for large groups or to share. They also have a great outdoor seating and standing area along the city streets lined with trees. The bartenders were all super friendly and efficient with all the customers constantly coming up. I got a great flight of styles, I wish I had the time to have had more; next time. Our table ordered a bunch of different pizzas to try; I loved the crispy yet soft crusts, cheeses, oils, and fresh ingredients on tap. Prices on everything is reasonable for the quality. This was definitely a favorite stop of the day, and a must-visit if you're on a beer tour of the area.

I stopped by to see what all the TikTok hype was about. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it wasn't horrible. The lack of communication surprised me. There was no greeting when I walked in, and the only words spoken were to let me know my food was ready. Not sure if that was due to a language barrier or just the general vibe.
