Really feeling disappointed and let down by the service of this organization. I had someone help me place a nearly hundred dollar order of at least ten books to start a book club, two copies of each book I selected. They called me when the first book came in. I asked to leave it until they were all there so I could make one trip. They totally dropped the ball and I literally want to hand them my money but they have to make it hard. I've gone in, they've stopped calling. They called me six times for the first book, and never to be heard from again.... I just want to read books with my friends :( read more

Love this location in Kenwood! Great staff that has been there for years and easy way to make some quick cash for used books or movies or games or devices. Of course you only get Pennies for it but it will get that big box out of your car you've been holding onto way too long! Take your receipt to the front register to get cash or browse their aisles for something new (to you)! Parking is easy in the back. Highly recommend this location! read more

Nice book store with a rather large selection! I recently visited in order to sell some books back and look for some others. Although you don't necessarily get a lot for your trade-ins (barely anything), it's nice that you can sell books back for at least a small profit. Unfortunately they don't have like brand new books there, but as indicated in the name if you do find the book you want it's marked half price. Overall the staff was nice and again it's a nice store. Depending on where you park, you may have to take the elevator downstairs to find it. I was wondering around the upstairs businesses for a little bit looking for it. read more

Every so often I stop by Half-Priced Books to see what they have to offer. You can find some nice things here for a fraction of the retail price. I recommend visiting this store if you're looking for books, games, dvds, cds, vinyl records, etc. If you're in school, sometimes you can find previous edition text books, psych book, English lit books, philosophy books, etc. here for way cheaper than the university book store. You can always go online too though. However, I hate selling my items here. It is always hit or miss, usually miss. I've seen it where they don't want to offer you anything for a book that they then mark to sell at $7, $8, $9 dollars. If you're looking to get rid of a bunch of items and half-priced books seems convenient, go for it. I personally think it'd be better to donate the items to non-profit and get a tax right off that will definitely be larger than whatever Half-Priced Books is offering. read more

Half Price Books is one of my favorite places to go..sometimes for books..but mostly for used dvds, cds, & vinyl. The selection at this location is kind of hit or miss, like most locations. I have found some lost treasures here tho..probably more than any other location. Their prices for things are a bit spotty..sometimes they charge more than what you would spend on items new on sale somewhere. Their bargain section is really great tho..such great deals..but I've been kind of disheartened with this location lately because their bargain dvd section has been shrinking and shrinking for the past couple of months. They used to have the biggest selection out of any of the stores..now they hardly have anything at all. I hope this isn't a trend..it's one of the main reasons I come here. Still, it's just fun to come here and browse. Stores like this are dwindling..I really hope they stick around for a while. read more

this is one of those places i have to bring 20 bucks in cash into and leave my wallet in the car. What a treasure chest of literally awesomeness. I find myself walking around half price books for a good hour everytime Im in there, just because of the plethora of used books they have. the deals are so good that I almost feel like I have to get to them before someone else does (thus the 20 dollar rule). The store is well organized, clean, and well lit. There is a large music section upfront as well as a computer software section. I found myself an original copy of Warcraft one day that was in perfect condition. (nerdfest) as far as pricing goes, most books are literally half off. I love seeing how much the book would cost new right next to their sticker with their price. I hear people get upset when they bring in their books to sell them and they dont get as good as a price as they hope. The one time i brought in books I thought it was pretty low but , its a second had store, they have to make money some how. They have always provided me with quality, cheap reads, so I didnt mind feeding back into their store. the one thing i wish they had where more chairs to sit and read a bit before buying the books. read more

Best Feature: GREAT book prices and fantastic selection! Worst Feature: The service is hit-or-miss. This is my favorite and most preferred place to buy books. I'm all about bookstores - I love the lounging, the reading, the smell of printed paper and the feel of worn covers underneath my fingertips. However, places such as Border's and Barnes and Noble are generally a bit pricey for my modest budget. If you don't mind getting used products, this store is perfect for the frugal book-lover. The location is great - right around great eateries in Kenwood and only minutes from Kenwood Towne Center. I love what they've done with the interior - over the past few years, they've worked hard to make this not only a place to buy books, CDs, DVDs, records, and more, but also a place to lounge and enjoy the reading experience. They have assorted furniture pieces around the store that make for a great break in the shopping experience. Another great feature is the fact they will buy books, CDs, DVDs, and other media from you. Recently I moved and decided to make some money off of the items I wasn't using anymore. It's not always for a lot of money, but even a couple bucks is worth giving up things that aren't needed and could be loved by someone else. The only complaint I have is that for whatever reason, I tend to meet unpleasant employees who make the shopping experience feel awkward and unpleasant. Don't get me wrong - I've met splendid people at Half Price who are helpful, friendly, and make the visit a memorable one. However, I recently stopped in to sell back books and buy a book, and I got one employee who was helpful and pleasant; the other two I met looked at me blankly and were not helpful at all. No food or drink, so that is one drawback that might disappoint those who enjoy grabbing coffee and reading a bit. I grew up going to this store! When I was in high school, I would sit and go through all of their music and soundtracks, looking for a gem. I still have fun doing the same thing with their movies. They always have a clearance rack and you never know what you'll find! There's free coffee and comfy chairs, so this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon! read more

This one in particular is great because it's in the middle of Kenwood. People in Kenwood buy very expensive things. And, when they're done with them, they sell them. And, I gain! So I've been living under a literary rock!!! How did I just discover Half Price Books?!?! I'm so happy I stopped in, I was in heaven: books and not just ordinary books, half priced books!!! Since I'm not responsible enough to return books to the library on time (I banned myself), I purchase printed books frequently. Never really caught onto downloading electronic books either. So I couldn't contain myself when I started using my book list to help me navigate to the appropriate sections of the store to find my next reads, all at majorly discounted prices. The books I picked up were fairly easy to find, the large signs and stickers on the shelves really help out! I love browsing in book stores, it wasn't too crowded and I wasn't in a rush, so I took my time. Although newly released books are more difficult to find here, they carried three of the books I was looking for (two in hard cover I might add)!!! My favorite thing about bookstores are the cute girl workers who parade around looking like innocent librarians. My second favorite thing about bookstores are the books! Nothing gives me greater pleasure than an afternoon spent in the bookstore perusing through multiple novels. Half Price Books is THE place to buy books in the city. But it's more than a bookstore. They sell DVDs, CDs, calendars, pens, bookmarks. It's like a veritable Walmart without all the riffraff and no food, electronics, toys, or clothes. Okay, well I guess it's not like Walmart but more like Barnes and Noble, but everything is half price! I'm not sure but I feel like that's where they got the name for the store: Half Price Books! If you're like me, you never finish a book. Well thank God for Hollywood cause they take all the best books and turn them into even better movies. Half Price Books is perfect because I can stop in and buy the book, the movie, and the soundtrack (because I already know The Hunger Games soundtrack is going to be beast). My favorite thing about going to Half Price Books is the fact that it feels like I'm walking into a Scholastic Book Fair, like they had in elementary school. Half Price not only sells an assortment of books for cheap, they also have oodles of papergoods and things that compliment reading material...like book side dishes. Some of what you can find here: - Notecards - Journals - Sketchbooks - Thank You Cards - Holiday Cards - Bookmarks (the old school ones with the tassels, like at the book fair!) - Gigantic reusable bags with bibliomaniac themes - Tiny lamps for your book - Ink stamps - Calendars - Records I nabbed some classy thank you cards for only $2.50 for a 20-pack. Also, those bookmarks with the tassels start at 49 cents. With all my epic Yelp Bookclub reading, on top of my own read-for-pleasure and work-research books, I need all the snazzy bookmarks I can get! The Half Price staff has always been helpful here too. Tye helped me hunt down items and knew exactly where to look. We had a friendly chat about our current reads too. There are always plenty of people working both on the salesfloor and keeping the line short at the register. While I love purchasing from Half Price, I'm not as big a fan of selling my used books. Half Price sells books for half of the retail value, so, in turn, the most you can get is half of half, or a quarter of the current retail price. Chances are, your used books are selling for $2.00 on the Internet, so Half Price can't offer you much to stay in competition with the web. One of my favorite stores. I'd live here if I could. The amount of money I have spent in this place is pretty scary. I even do my Christmas shopping here. They have a huge variety of books for very good prices. You can't expect to find exactly what your looking for but you may get lucky. This branch is probably my favorite but they all operate in a similar fashion. They seem to spread out their inventory so the the selection is similar in each store. You can sell books here though you can't expect to get rich doing so. If you love books you have to visit this place. If you want to clean off you book shelfs to make room I suggest you stop in as well. I used to bring all my used magazines and advertisement stuff here as they used to recycle it but they have since stopped doing that- which is unfortunate. In addition to being cheap- I'm no mathematician but there stuff is close to 50% less than normal, they have a lot of sales and coupon offers for even more off a select item. read more

I really love this store because I can find a lot of good books for a cheap price. My biggest thing with them is that they rip you off when you go in to sell your books. I took like 100 quality books and I believe I received $30. Not good for me. Instead, I started swapping them on swaptree. Anyway, I love the clearance section. I have found a lot of good, up to date books in the clearance section. The store is very neat and organized. They don't have an inventory list, but if you tell them the author they can lead you to the book if they have it. They also have very good DVD's and CD's in the store. Half Price Books is a great used bookstore. You can find books in great condition of all genres as well as other supplies and music! Most of my experience is selling books to this store! Yes make a few buck off of those old books you'll never read again! They tend to look through whatever you bring them, select only a select few of the newer looking books, and then send you home with the rest. So don't hope on making a lot or getting rid of your books. The store is packed with books. Each little nook is a different genre and they have everything that you'd expect to find. This store also has a huge collection of Cliff's notes for those of you in high school and need some extra tips. The store also has a nice selection of stationary, notebooks, and other paper supplies. The music section is in the front and you can find records and CD's for sale. It takes some digging to find something that you may like, but you'll be sorting through lots of music you won't like to find the stuff you do. read more

Away from the snobbery of Kenwood Mall, Half-Price caters to book-lovers who wants the most bang for their buck. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They also do cash trade-ins for those of us who have way too many read books lying around (or those of us who are just low on funds!). I love books and I love a store that recycles and sells used books! I think the idea is amazing and I love the thought of taking my books in to sell to them to be resold to others while being able to shop for books I can replace the with. Unfortunately it is just not hardly worth the time to gather the books up and drive them in. They give you pennies for your books (no kidding!) and the purchase price of the new books isn't in alignment with what they paid for the book from the previous owner. It's frustrating. I think the idea behind the business was incredible but they have definitely gone too far into the "business" side of it. They are definitely making 2-3x what I think they could do and still easily get a profit on. After the last time I took in my books and got the estimate on what they were willing to pay for them I haven't been back :( read more

I found this location to be hard to get to. The parking lot felt unsafe to me. It was dark when I left and not very well lit. I'm not from this area and it was a little hard to find. The employee who helped me find a book was super polite and very helpful. The cashier, not so much. I bought 5 books and he didn't offer a bag or anything. He wasn't overly friendly. One piece of advice is to put the clearance CDs in an easier to get to area. They're so cramped on the bottom shelf and it seemed like a popular area. read more

I think I may have found my new favorite place. Great place to sell old books. I also come here for their vinyl record selection. They have a great variety and some good pricing. The only addition I would add would be a receiver and a record player so you could preview the records before you buy them. read more
