Just purchased a car , advisory on previous mot showed minor corrosion on discs. So booked in for a full brake saftey test and told them about my concern of minor advisory and due to this I wanted all brake pads and offending discs changed as i am going on a 2000 mile rd trip. The brake test come back with pad measurements 3.5 mm rear and more on front. I asked if they were dangerous to be told min legal limit 1.5mm advisory at 3.5mm.
And the car is safe to drive.
Mechanic asked to pass on job as rear a pain to do due to handbrake incorporated into system .
Not happy i got a 2nd opinion on the brakes ... Lucky for me i did the rear pads actually had zero and the calipers were siezed both sides so i had zero rear brakes. So Halfords clearly didnt carry out the checks , told me my car was safe when infact the car should not have been driven as illegal which could have lead to a 2.5k fine , banned from driving and a 3 month prison sentence. Let alone how many other people this could have potentially killed if i had an accident. Dont trust Halfords.... I urge you to get a 2nd check if you have had a brake saftey check with them. read more
