The most embarrassing time was when I thought my windscreen wiper had broken and wanted to get new ones. It turned out that someone had just tried to pull them off so all the guy in the garage had to do was fix them back on. So I didn't have to buy any new ones and he didn't mock me for going in for such a minor thing! I'm certainly no car expert so places like this are very useful.

Ooh and once, when I lived on Victoria Road, my car wouldn't start, and it was something to do with a little button down in the passenger footwell, and the Alba man came to my house, fixed it, and didn't charge me. The shop-keeper knows exactly where everything is so you can easily find what you want if you just ask. Being independent makes things perhaps a little more expensive than other chains store but the locality and convenience may over-ride this factor.

Droping the car off in the morning and getting that call a few hours later to let me know the car is ready, I have always left a satisfied customer. Halfords sell a good range of car maintenance, push bikes and camping equipment as well as baby and child products and toys and games. The Selby branch of Halfords is a two level store. Like other Halfords branches they will replace light bulbs and windscreen wipers for you as well as more major items like batteries for a small charge. I brought the children's bikes there last year as they have good deals on and even let you 'talk' a bit more discount if you are buying several bikes. The staff are friendly and offer good advice . and if you are polite often don't charge for changing light bulbs and minor items :)

Champion Auto Care were the only garage that were open all day AND said they would be able to source and fit the part that day. The manager also recommended a chap with a recovery van who could take us across town to his garage for a very competitive fee (we couldn't even bump start the car as the battery had nothing at all). The service was brilliant, very friendly and helpful, and the price was incredibly competitive (far cheaper than we feared we'd need to pay). Thanks for saving us Champion!!

I would have given 0 rating if that was possible…read more They book you an appointment for repair and you turn up and they make you wait for half an hour and after asking them repeatedly "When are you going to look at my car", they tell you "we can't look at your car today you will have to come in tomorrow". When asked what is the point of appointment then ? the manager said "I don't have time for this" and walked away. Don't bother with these people! Look elsewhere.

Just like the name says its run by two brothers, they've been there as long as I remember, and I recall my mum always took her car there for fixing, servicing and MOT. Because of their size they're not always the quickest around, but can usually sort stuff for you within the day. They are friendly and I don't think they'd rip you off or recommend something you didn't need. I would recommend booking in advance, but they would be my first port of call if something started rattling on my car and I was in the area.

Unacceptable customer service. when I asked why it wasn't repaired, I've had a string of different excuses. First, they couldn't find the bike that I dropped off with staff. Second, the appointment had to be moved as the parts were (this is the best bit) in store. And lastly that it was a inspection to see what work needed doing. Already had that. complained and had no resolution. clearly been lied to and fobbed off. disgusting.

I went to this Halfords to buy some oil for the car and really didn't know which kind to get. I…read morethink it was obvious I didn't really know what I was looking for but no one asked if I needed any help (despite the shop being completely dead and several members of stadd being in the shop) so I went to the counter to ask. The member of staff was helpful in telling me which oil to get but when I said I wasn't really sure of where to put it into the car I wasn't offered any help despite this being a 30 second job and my car being parked outside. I know they probably charge for this service but I wasn't even offered any help for a charge.
