Shepshed Building Society
I have recently been using this building society more as I have been trying to save up and I find…read moreit easier to put money in here as it is harder to get out! The staff are friendly and helpful. I have always been served quickly. They do offer a wide range of savings and other financial products, some of which I am not aware of as I use a basic savings account. The do have a website. They are independently owned which I know some people prefer. They do not have parking facilities as they are based right in the town centre, but there is free parking close by. They open normal working hours and are open Saturdays.
Lloyds TSB Bank
ABSOLUTELY APPALLING SERVICE!!!!!…read more Always hideously long queues, staff just love to ignore you... I wanted to open a current account for myself, told one of the girls there who then took me into a room where one of the team helped me open an account... FOR A BABY! WHAT BABY?! (FYI I'm a size 8 so there's no mistaking any lumps or bumps for "babies") I wish I could remember this girl's name so I could tell you to avoid her at all costs but to be honest, I've had the WORST EXPERIENCES with this "bank" and have since closed my account and taken it to Barclays where they actually acknowledge your existance and take note of what you have to say!!!!! She listened sympathetically to my problem and then in a committed and professional manner she set about solving the issue. How am I supposed to have food and living expenses paid. Wish I read the reviews before banking with them because now I see many others dissatisfied with their company as well. Wish this had the option to give it a no star rating!
HSBC has relocated to a much bigger property in 2008 and the standard has only continued to get…read morebetter. You are always greeted warmly when you enter the bank and the staff have a lot more time to help you with any queries or problems you may have. I also like the new technology enabling you to pay money in coins, cash or cheque straight into the electronic machines instead of waiting in queues for a long time. I also had an overdraft issue a while back in which money was unfairly taken from my account and I went into the branch and found them to be very reasonable and helpful. There are also various cashpoints located outside the branch and the interior has a very modernised and patische feel that will always make you feel welcome.

The thing about banks is that they think that they are doing you a favour. However, year on year,…read moretheir customer service gets worse and worse. They seem less and less interested in speaking to you in person - with automated machines replacing real people. The layout of the bank is irritating to say the least. It used to work quite nicely, as all customers could move through to the back where the tellers are. These days there are annoying sweepers trying to stop you getting to the tellers and making you use a machine. Therefore, where all the machines are situated (at the front of the bank) there forms a series of large queues. These queues have to cross each other as there isn't enough room. Sometimes you can't even get in the door of the bank. I say, don't bother. Use an online bank, and if you need to go to an actual branch, use an out of town branch where there is still some level of customer service.
This is definitely my favourite HSBC to visit, because since recently they have installed all-new…read moremachines to do your cash deposits or cheque deposits on. They allow you to just pop your stack of cash in the hole, once you've scanned your card in and tapped in the transaction. It counts your cash, pops up the sum for confirmation and then immediately adds the money to your account. This is loads more convenient than the old system of writing up the transaction and enveloping it with your money etc then waiting for the cash to get into your account. And of course it's also quite nicely laid out since the refurbishment, in such a way that as soon as you walk in and look a little lost you are approached by an employee who then helps direct you to the right person. Altogether good location, good service, conveinent and easy - as banking should be.
