I got every penny I asked for and I owe it all to Tyler Luchies!…read more Why the one-star review? Well, that's on account of him representing the other party. :) The other party is my now ex-wife. Despite our falling out I feel she was entitled to competent representation and I don't believe she found that at SLL. I have questions about the integrity of this lawyer and questions about his competence. Questions that have gone unanswered despite my solicitation of explanation of events. If he answers this review at all, I'm sure he would cite confidentiality. I suggest that's a rather convenient position to hold. I spent months in attempts at good faith negotiation. Tyler seemed to prefer underhanded tactics which looked like delays that were designed to "sweat me out" in the hopes that I would accept a garbage settlement. And then complete capitulation at the first letter from my lawyer. With no material difference between mine and my lawyer's correspondence it sure appears that Tyler had one offer for a chump with no lawyer and one for when the apparent attempt to weasel out of a bill wasn't going to work. The optics of Tyler's behavior aren't great. If my read of events are correct, I believe this would be of concern to those considering retaining services of SLL.

I am told he is now the lawyer who owns 12 units in the building I also own a unit in for the last ten years. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am at my wits end with the management company he alone employs and props up. I have talked to many other former owners as they all get frustrated and sell out and move. I alone cannot as I am disabled and in this housing environment that has gotten worse and worse I am stuck. Moved back to my home town for help and support the realtor should have disclosed that Mr. Luchies own 12 units in this building thus handing over his annual votes at the condominium yearly meeting, which I have been now excluded from for the last three years for telling one person on the condo board who my family of origin are after not being able to sleep for over ten days three years ago. The tenants who live above me apparently have more rights than an owner as they have rented for twenty years. I was only able to purchase this unit as it was a for closure and now after ten whole years of everyday day being constantly harassed by the people upstairs I have had enough. I am disabled as I said and desperately need my sleep. After 8 years and another lawyers letter I am not awaken at 3AM anymore but every time I'd do get up to use the loo, they are still up, pacing and making noice, just not as loud. Then precisely at 7 AM they make so much noise squeeling and making the bathroom pipes treble that no one could ever sleep. Or they love to stand by their kitchen sink and throw empty glass bottles into their hallways closet, every time I turn on my water in the sinks they come running at elephants timber shaking will cracking sounds and stomping. Every time! Never miss a time. I have told the management company about all my witnesses and they say, it's an old building? No when some on is purposely stomping each and every time you come home to quietly close your front unit door they stomp for a full five minutes. I am so harassed I has seen many therapists, Chris is line and my Doctor has this well diarised that I am not crying and on the verge of suicide. I am writing this so my family can sue if I do something bad this weekend. I just cannot take it any more.

There's something about the Yelp review that Scott A. wrote for Jamia. I bookmarked her several…read moreyears ago, thinking I would contact her if a need arose. Jamia is an attorney who specializes in estate planning. Many people, including myself, seem to think estate planning is "optional." As a single parent in his late 40s (midlife crisis) during the COVID pandemic, I finally realized otherwise. Of course, I had no idea what documents I would need and how much it would cost. So, I sent a message from her website. Here things I like about her service: + Jamia responds to inquiries very quickly. I have almost always heard back from her on the same day. + We first spoke on the phone for a little bit. I had a consultation appointment the following week. Both of these were complimentary. + I found it very easy to talk to her and ask her questions. No matter what I do, I always have a lot of questions. She made me feel comfortable asking all my questions. + I spoke with a couple of friends who have worked with estate planning attorneys and learned that her fees are very reasonable. On top of it, she does it for a flat fee, which gives you big peace of mind when working with an attorney. I'm a linear thinker with an investigative personality! On top of it, I hate wasting things, particularly my hard earned money. That said, I usually do a LOT of research before making purchases small or big. When it comes to estate planning, all it took was Scott A.'s review. It's a really short review, and I still don't know why I was sold immediately. I did not check out other attorneys in town at all before contacting Jamia. I'm so glad that I reached out to her. I will update my review once she completes all my documents. Last but not least, I thank Scott A for his review! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If you found this review useful, please hit "useful" or "cool." We found Dawson Mullin Law to be UNTRUSTWORTHY, DISHONEST AND UNPROFESSIONAL…read more TLDR (The Long Done Right): We chose them over two other lawyers because they offered us a package deal to represent us in both the sale of a house, and the purchase of a condo. In the end they overcharged us with about $1150 of hidden, unquoted fees. They then tried to gaslight us into believing that it wasn't a mistake and ignored our requests for reimbursement. The process dragged on for months. We are extremely surprised that there aren't more negative reviews for them, as by their response, it is likely that they have done this to many other clients. We have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and with their governing body The Law Society of British Columbia regarding this. For those of you interested in the detailed version: We chose Dawson Mullin Law over two other lawyers because they offered us a deal to represent us in both the sale of the house, and the purchase of the condo (April 21, 2024). Their original quote was: $795 + $150 disbursements (house sale), $950 + ~$300 disbursements (purchase) + taxes, which is a total of $2195 + taxes: "Thanks for the message. Pleased to assist with your sale and purchase transactions. I'll do a reduced rate of 795 on the sale and 950 on the purchase with mortgage, plus applicable taxes/disbursements (which) varies slightly depending on mortgage requirements but typical disbursement cost on the sale is around 150 and closer to 300 on the purchase/mortgage". The final charges were a total of $3223 + taxes charged. This was $1028 + taxes higher than original quote, with no explanation for the difference from the quote given: (UNTRUSTWORTHY on their part) $895 + $403 disbursements + $199 software fee + taxes (sale), $995 + $532 disbursements + $199 software fee + taxes (purchase) + taxes. We followed up multiple times starting on June 18, 2024 about overcharges, finally heard back a month later on Jul 21, 2024 with an explanation. The explanation for the extra charges was: "You would have incurred the same disbursement cost or more at any other firm", "As to the Dye and Durham fee - there is nothing I can do about this - this a transaction cost which does not form part of legal fees or disbursements and again a fee you would incur at any other law firm or notary office that completed your transaction.". After looking into this, we found that it is incorrect that we would have incurred the same cost at another firm. Quotes from other places were not this high. Many other firms would not have charged this software fee. Our previous condo purchase with SIHOTA & STARKEY (totaling $1087.17) did not have this fee. It is a choice on Dawson Mullin Laws part to use this software. There are other, cheaper options available, and as professionals, they would be aware of that. Either way, these fees should have been quoted up front, so that we could have made an informed decision. (DISHONEST on their part). After 12 written requests, we finally received partial reimbursement of $295 months later on Aug 19, 2024. The rest is outstanding. (UNPROFESSIONAL on their part) We wish we had not chosen them, hopefully this information will help you avoid the same mistake we did.
