My dog Max can be a sweet heart. With people he knows he can just be a complete goof! However, if he doesn't know you, WATCH OUT. He will bark, he will growl, he will run around you, and it's just NOT a good situation. He's always had these issues when I first got him as a puppy, and I thought it would just get better with time. I knew for a long time that I wanted to take Max to training, but with his anxiety around strangers, a regular group class wouldn't be practical. Our dog: a 90 pound German Shepherd/Lab puppy with a penchant for eating prescription glasses (5 pairs!). High energy and low impulse control. Loved to counter surf and snatch things for a good game of chase and chew. Our problem: We were walking him up to three miles to keep him exhausted and out of trouble. After interviewing three other dog trainers, we finally found Dawn. We immediately loved her attitude towards dogs and her knowledge of dog behavior. She was positive and encouraging. Our 4-year old golden retriever, Hailey, was VERY high strung and acted crazy whenever we had visitors. In just four training sessions with Dawn, Hailey is calm when people come over. Everyone is surprised at her transformation. We had tried many different ways to get Hailey to behave, but until Dawn explained dog behavior and how to change Hailey's behavior, we had no idea how to deal with our dog. Dawn is a wonderful trainer! She has been working with my very fearful dog for the last several months and we couldn't be any happier with the progress she's made so far. My puppy's previous owner was a drug addict homeless person and the dog was so fearful of people when we first brought her home. Two months ago, we were having difficulties managing our 6-month old golden puppy, Sandy, and asked Dawn for help upon recommendation of a friend. The main issues were: 1) unlike the rest of my family, I did not know how to handle and groom Sandy (used to be afraid of dogs before getting Sandy four months ago); 2) it was very stressful to walk Sandy outside with her straining and pulling on the leash; 3) getting things done in the house was nearly impossible with her pacing around and needing attention constantly. Dawn showed me how to touch and handle Sandy, and in general, how to read dog body language. In less than two months, I am now able to confidently touch, control, and take care of Sandy alone. My relationship with our golden puppy has changed from being tentative to being comfortable, relaxed, and incredibly enjoyable. Dawn also trained my whole family how to walk Sandy outside on a loose leash, and calm her down inside the house. Her tips on the type of leash to use, correction methods, timing and the type of treats to use were simple and clear, and easy to follow.
