Dr Laur had previously provided orthotic care for my mother for a different condition, so when the appropriate brace for my mom's arm fracture could not be obtained by the hospital, I called Dr Dagny Laur at American Limb and Orthopedic Company in Valparaiso. Although the hospital where my mother was a patient is located quite some distance away and was not normally where Dr Leur provides her orthotic and prosthetic skills, Dr Laur traveled to that hospital and expertly applied the appropriate brace to stabilize and protect the fracture. Dr. Demko sees me twice, gives me exercises to get my muscles to work together. He shows me there are things I cannot do with my arms that I should be able to do. Then he has me do exercises and I can do those things. After two visits he told me he couldn't help me anymore and that I needed to see a physical therapist. He recommended one that also understand the muscles need to work together. I go to that PT for about 6 months and am now pain free with no surgery. Thank you Dr. D! He could have strung me along for more visits but he did not. He knew what I needed and delivered for me!

Some guy came into the examinattion room and told me to touch my chin with my finger and lightly exert pressure. Then he goes into a big sales pitch and explains how they "don't intervene". He said that their philosophy is to "help the brain find the muscle its trying to talk to and get them working together again." Then another person led me into a room with a bunch of gourneys separated by shower curtains. There, she hooked some wires to me and dialed in a machine that caused some slight muscle contractions to occur. This did not help at all. But I don't think they are in the business of helping anyone. They just help themselves to your insurance card, collect a deductible and send you on your way. The Body Back and Joint Clinic in Chesterton is a bunch of quacks. I've just wasted my time and $200. Now it's time to go to a real doctor.

I'm scheduled for a follow up surgery to repair what should have been done initially. I was consistently made to feel that my pain was manufactured by the PA Alyssa (who needs to practice a little empathy) and Staff and come to find out there is a confirmed issue that needs surgery.
