I won't recommend it during the summer though as I am always out on trails ... with plenty of drinking water in your backpack, it's still doable all year round. This part of the trail, we hiked, located inside the Lake Mead National Park, so be prepared to pay a fee to enter. $25 entrance fee is valid for 7 days or $80 yearly pass. During our hike, I truly enjoyed the weather, and of course the blooming wild flowers! Prickly cactus flowers are colorfully outstanding from the boring desert landscape! The white poppies are popping everywhere, too! Beautiful yellow, white and purple flowers are covering the hillside all around the trail. The water is flowing in the wash and giving energy during the walk. I practically felt the energy from this beautiful sight! According to the sign on the trail entrance, it said that the trail is not maintained, enter on your own risk! Well, I found that the trail is very well maintained! You can't really miss it. The side of the trail has large rocks all the way. Especially on the beginning, on the upper level. Once you reach the narrow section, where the steps begin, you need to be careful going down. Then, when you reached the waterline you can follow the path carefully. The scenery is amazing! There is an unpaved parking area off of the road where you can find restrooms too.

There are two Wetland trails. One is the 14.1 mile loop that starts from the Wetlands Park. This is a short hike from the downstream side of Lake Las Vegas as the Las Vegas Wash goes to Lake Mead. From the parking lot, you have two options. The fastest route is straight ahead where the trailhead sign is. The other trail is to the left of the pit toilet. It's not as steep, but it is a longer trip. After starting on what I'll refer to as the main trail, you'll soon come to a split in the trail with a section making a 90º turn. If all you want to do is see the wash from the top of the cliff, turn right here. If you want the full experience, keep hiking straight ahead. The trail will narrow, and you'll, descend to a point where there are two cautionary signs. This is also where the trail from the pit toilet comes up from the service road below. I recommend here that you take the right fork here. The steps are not as dependable straight ahead and it's steeper. Go to your right and soon you'll be almost at the level of the wash. Once on the road below, walk the opposite direction of your hike to this point and you'll get close to the weir that helps slow the water so more of the wash doesn't erode. Understand that about 200 million gallons of water gfo down this wash daily. The Las Vegas Wash is our river, if you will. It's lovely to see and listen too. Stay out of the water as it's both regular runoff and treated sewage. The easiest way back is to return the way you came. My friend and I did a harder way. We walked downstream until we came to the service road. We truned left and hiked the road back. While the footing is easier, the entire trip is uphill. Had we returned the way we came, ascending would be tougher, but once over, we'd have had flat going back to the car. We wanted the extra workout so we hiked the road. This is why we get the 1.5 mile round trip. Happy trails!

The trail is well marked with a descent incline. The views are pretty up there. It's a short trail with only a summit view so 4/5 stars. The trail has some loose gravel. We went on New Year's Eve and had the entire trail to ourselves. We also saw some wild mustangs right next to the road. It was super peaceful and great way to spend the day.

Simple tips: Wear the right shoes- This hike can get pretty tricky and steep at points so you want to make sure you're prepared, or at least your feet are prepared. Bring water- lots of water. It gets out in the desert. Don't be silly and think you won't or don't need some H20 because believe me you will. Navigating for me was simple because I made sure we came back the way we started which to me is always the simplest way to navigate any situation. Take your time and enjoy the views. It's freaking stunning. Bring your camera, but also be careful. It's easy to slip. The last thing you want is to get hurt trying to take a selfie. Take the time out to go this hike/trail. It's totally worth the time and drive out there. It'll take your breath away- and not just because the altitude is high.

They were just coming out and they explained to us that you basically have to go to the anniversary narrows through the slot canyons and out the other side and then hike up to the bowl of fire. We may try this again another day. By the time we ran into the hikers, we were already tired and picked up another hiker who was lost and we had to get him back to his car, which was a ways away.. It looks like a great place that we wanted to try to find though.

As someone who would consider herself mildly active, I found this trail not to be too challenging and suuuuuper enjoyable! There's just something about getting out in nature that is unmatched. My dear friend Terri C asked if I wanted to go on the hike and she picked out this trail for us. We literally brought our coffee with us and had a really nice and pleasurable walk-n-talk date! It was amazing. Most of the trail is paved, which is nice, but once you get more toward the top, it's dirt paths to follow. There's not wedging yourself between rocks or fully climbing boulders or anything, so I found this hike to be sooo enjoyable. You also get unmatched views of the valley! Towards the end, you do have to climb some rocks if you want to get to the tippy top and find the box with the notebook to sign. I loved that someone did this. From looking at photos, I was excited to see an American Flag up here, and literally practiced my poze for it, but the flag was taken down sadly. However, there is still the box with the notebooks that you can sign. We both signed it and dedicated our hike to my late mother and her late father. Definitely recommend this hike to people who are kinda like me, not inactive but not the most physically fit. It took us about 2.5ish hours and was so pleasant.

Burkholder Trail is a valuable connection for the River Mountains Loop Trail. From Lake Mead…read moreParkway to Racetrack Road it runs along the south side of Burkholder Drive. Approximately 2 miles of it is landscaped with lighting. The trail switches to the north side of Burkholder Boulevard at Racetrack Road then continues as a 10-ft wide paved trail uphill and connects to the River Mountains Loop Trail. Horseback riding is permitted east of Racetrack Road. The total trail distance from Lake Mead Parkway to the River Mountain Loop Trail connection is 3.2-miles. Along the north border of Heritage Park the trail is landscaped with lighting and benches up to Racetrack Road. Heading south at the Burkholder Trail connection onto River Mountain Loop Trail will take you to Railroad Pass and the option into Boulder City at Industrial Road. From the River Mountain Loop Trail at Burkholder Trail connection, the trail system runs north to the Lake Mead Parkway Trail to Lake Mead National Recreation Area with connection back to the River Mountains Loop Trail and connection to the Wetlands Connector Trail. Best trail head parking will be at Heritage Park or Heritage Aquatic Complex. The Burkholder Trail is 3.2 miles of paved asphalt all the way to the River Mountain Loop Trail. A landmark is the Water Treatment Plant at the southwest corner of the trail connection.

The is the South Loop section of the bike trail. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead. The lot is dirt and there is a fair amount of parking. One can easily walk a short distance from the parking area to the edge of the bank and get a great view of the river that flows from the water treatment facility to Lake Mead. It's a good place to view some wading birds and enjoy a hike or ride your bike. Adjacent to the parking area is a trail that goes up some wooden stairs to a bench on top of the ridge. From there, you have a good view of the wetlands, the Las Vegas Strip, and the mountains on the west side of the valley. This is not a very busy trailhead so it's a good place to start out from here.

Found the turn off from Lake Mead Blvd and slowed rolled it out to the butte looking for a place to begin our accent for a Geocache. DO NOT ATTEMPT DURING A HOT SUMMER DAY! We finally decided to park next to the the three power towers and make our approach from the NW side. There is a slight trail to follow on the way up which is at times marked with cairns (stacks of rocks). MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF WATER! Once you hit the ridge line it's an easy climb up. Don't forget to look behind you every now and again...the view is amazing and just gets better and better. The GF was the first to summit and located the summit log. I made it up at the beginning of evening nautical twilight. WHEN YOU DO MAKE THE HIKE, MAKE SURE YOUR FOOTWEAR IS SOLID! We hung out for only a moment but enough to enjoy the kangaroo rats, being pin high with helicopters and watching the lights in the valley bellow. GIVE YOURSELF TIME & BRING A CAMERA! By the time we made our decent it was dark. Though we had lights they were not really needed as the moon light was enough to navigate. We made it back to the vehicle and determined that it about a 2 hour 15 minute trip.

This is a…read moregreat cardio hike, even thought it's a short hike, the peak itself is steep, will get you breathing fast and that heart rate up. The hike is over lava rocks so make sure you wear a good pair of shoes. It's an out and back type hike with 1000 ft elevation gain, and about 2 miles roundtrip. When you get to the top, you will have a panoramic view of the entire city, Lake Mead, and Lake Las Vegas. If you have knees like me, you will be hurting on the way down, my knees hurt for a day after this as it does pound them in the hike down. It offers great views tho, about the same as Frenchman Mtn so it's definitely worth the pain
