Hey Yelpers! This is…read morea super easy mostly flat hiking trail with the most beautiful views. This is the best time of the year to hike it, too. You can easily drive into the parking lot like you are heading to the visitor center, but drive past it down to the restroom parking lot close to the trail and it's perfectly marked for easy no brainer adventure. About half way or an hour in there is another restroom with a covered picnic table for a break. Then you can continue on down to the Boulder Dam. There are amazing views there as well as awesome retro restrooms , memorials, and water. There used to be a cafe. I forgot to look if they are still open. Before the dam is a parking structure. You can take the stairs or an elevator. We usually start our hikes about 8 am. The restrooms were still clean and stocked. I bring hand sanitizer. Be sure to bring water and a snack just in case. Dogs are welcome but please pick up after them and keep them on a leash. The later it gets the more busy it gets. I like to go here at least once a year. It's just so nice to get out into nature and experience Nevada. Parking is free. You can check out the visitor center while you are there. They have cool stuff. I recommend this trail. Check it out!

I won't recommend it during the summer though as I am always out on trails ... with plenty of drinking water in your backpack, it's still doable all year round. This part of the trail, we hiked, located inside the Lake Mead National Park, so be prepared to pay a fee to enter. $25 entrance fee is valid for 7 days or $80 yearly pass. During our hike, I truly enjoyed the weather, and of course the blooming wild flowers! Prickly cactus flowers are colorfully outstanding from the boring desert landscape! The white poppies are popping everywhere, too! Beautiful yellow, white and purple flowers are covering the hillside all around the trail. The water is flowing in the wash and giving energy during the walk. I practically felt the energy from this beautiful sight! According to the sign on the trail entrance, it said that the trail is not maintained, enter on your own risk! Well, I found that the trail is very well maintained! You can't really miss it. The side of the trail has large rocks all the way. Especially on the beginning, on the upper level. Once you reach the narrow section, where the steps begin, you need to be careful going down. Then, when you reached the waterline you can follow the path carefully. The scenery is amazing! There is an unpaved parking area off of the road where you can find restrooms too.

There are two Wetland trails. One is the 14.1 mile loop that starts from the Wetlands Park. This is a short hike from the downstream side of Lake Las Vegas as the Las Vegas Wash goes to Lake Mead. From the parking lot, you have two options. The fastest route is straight ahead where the trailhead sign is. The other trail is to the left of the pit toilet. It's not as steep, but it is a longer trip. After starting on what I'll refer to as the main trail, you'll soon come to a split in the trail with a section making a 90º turn. If all you want to do is see the wash from the top of the cliff, turn right here. If you want the full experience, keep hiking straight ahead. The trail will narrow, and you'll, descend to a point where there are two cautionary signs. This is also where the trail from the pit toilet comes up from the service road below. I recommend here that you take the right fork here. The steps are not as dependable straight ahead and it's steeper. Go to your right and soon you'll be almost at the level of the wash. Once on the road below, walk the opposite direction of your hike to this point and you'll get close to the weir that helps slow the water so more of the wash doesn't erode. Understand that about 200 million gallons of water gfo down this wash daily. The Las Vegas Wash is our river, if you will. It's lovely to see and listen too. Stay out of the water as it's both regular runoff and treated sewage. The easiest way back is to return the way you came. My friend and I did a harder way. We walked downstream until we came to the service road. We truned left and hiked the road back. While the footing is easier, the entire trip is uphill. Had we returned the way we came, ascending would be tougher, but once over, we'd have had flat going back to the car. We wanted the extra workout so we hiked the road. This is why we get the 1.5 mile round trip. Happy trails!

I hike part of the Shoreline Trail several times each winter when the temperatures permit. The…read moreShoreline Trail stretches from the former Las Vegas Bay boat launch area to the 3 Islands Overlook at 33 Hole about 2 miles south. When I hike this trail, it's because I'm hiking through what's known as White Owl Canyon and after going through some pipes to get to the old road, I return to the car by joining the Shoreline Trail about a mile from the parking area for 33 Hole and the 3 Islands Lookout. Some volunteers have done some nice work over the last couple of years by placing boulders along the trail so one knows where to go. This section has changed over the 7 years or so that I've been hiking the trail. The boulders work now because the level of the lake has fallen so much there's little danger that the trail will be covered by water and the rocks become useless. In fact, it has been very discouraging to watch the level of the lake drop so much that you now have to leave the trail to get to the edge of a stream that was once the lake. It is nice to see the water fowl and it's a pleasant hike when temperatures permit.

Add to that, a bunch of great people and our resident hike expert Norm leading the pack, you got yourself one heck of an excursion! There were 10 of us on this chilly morning and it was my first time inside the Lake Mead Area. The views here are so breathtaking, pictures and reviews don't do any justice...you gotta get out there and experience this yourself! This hike is about 3 miles and involves different elevations, a bit of rock scrambling, going through a few tunnels and a brief time inside owl canyon where we saw great rock formations, and even an owl who was guarding his/her huge nest nearby. there were also tons of clam shells scattered around and old Budweiser and Coors cans from the peel tab era. There also was a random wood frame kinda thing during our hike which made all of us clueless as to why anything was being constructed. After a short walk on the paved road way, we looped around and began the trek back to our cars along the rock formed trail taking in the awesome scenery and a last scramble up the same hill we first went down back to the parking lot. Hiking wise, there are 3 entrance paths that enter into a gravelled open area that was unclear of where it would end up. Pretty much turning left or right, you kind of loop back to the parking lot from that gravel area.

Now there's a large parking lot with several picnic tables and benches and bathroom facilities. The tables are mostly shaded but that depends on the sun and the time of year. It was a pleasant place to spend our after hike time and plan our hike for next week. There are two trails leading from the parking area. One of them splits into a third and they end at an unpaved trail that is the south section of the Wetlands Park Loop Trail. You can take any of these trails from the picnic area to the Nature Center at the Wetlands Park and then come back here for a picnic. It would be a nice family outing!

I'm a local here, This is my favorite place to come and detox. The view from your window is nature all around you. All this because we live in the desert, this is our "oasis." We don't have water here. We don't have nature in its truest form . The created bliss of Lake Las Vegas is something to see and experience. You need to stay here to truly appreciate and love what is happening here . You have your choice of a few places to stay for the evening. There is a Westin Resort and Hilton Hotel. I prefer the Westin mainly for the views and the quality of the resort style stay. You might think that a room at the Westin would be "resort," pricing . Not so ! They need to fill rooms. Our room, a lake view king suite was around $100, plus the resort fee. The Hilton is priced a bit lower. You decide what your best options are . Just know that you have options! It's all in what you are seeking to do. Come and play then stay a while and see what happens. Make sure and let yourself get back to normal and enjoy some rest. Life is busy sometimes and this is a great way to down time and recharge.

I don't come to the Pabco Trailhead very often despite it being so close to home. I usually visit…read morethe Wells Trailhead a couple of miles down stream. Starting a walk at Pabco has its perks though. More trees and more densely packed brush. Plus some side trails taking you close to the water's edge. Also some elevation change making the walk a little more challenging and interesting than plain flat land. Then, about half way to Wells Trailhead is a little semi-hidden outpost. An oasis if you will. A tree covered xeriscape garden space with access to the weir. A hidden gem off trail in a somewhat secluded setting. This is usually my turn around point where I head back to the car. Nice to have the peaceful landmark to look for.

While out driving, who knows what's along the way !…read more Shall we get out and stretch our let's. Let's do this . Ladies for those of us whom need to have the potty close stop here ! Here's to a real hot springs in the middle of no where. Truly we are in the middle of nowhere . Maybe the moon would be a better description. This hot springs is a geothermal phenomenon that provides life right here in the middle of who knows what? Life exists in many respects. The microbes that are present here are very small in a lot of varieties. The water even has fish that are swimming around in it. Don't drink the water . Again, don't drink the water . Do not swim in the water! Do not swim in the water it will cause a serious health condition and hazard. Are you needing to have a picnic and stretch your legs this is the place. Get out and walk and let the family be free. So many attempts have been made to make this springs something else and special . The original inhabitants of St. Thomas started to divert the water for agricultural purposes. Though many attempts many failed because of lack of funds to help pay for it. The fish that exist in the water are from a hatchery that was established still has some fish left over from the 1940s project that was never completed. The views of the water and this natural hot springs are absolutely stunning. The water moves at over 1,000 gallons per minute. Come and take a break and enjoy the beautiful views of nature.

Rogers Hot Spring in the area of Valley of Fire State Park is a beautiful place to visit, with…read moretranquil running water and great picnic spots. The restrooms are kept clean but they are definitely port a potty hole in the ground with a seat style. However, the signage is VERY poor and hidden behind shrubbery. It's vital that warning signs about the Naegleria fowleri amoeba in the thermal water are posted clearly and visibly upon arrival, as this amoeba can cause a VERY serious illness, or even DEATH if it enters the nose. People were swimming when we visited, highlighting the urgency of this. Despite this, it remains a nice stop to make in the area.

This park is always well maintained and has plenty of parking which already puts it ahead of a lot…read moreof places. The restrooms are about as clean as you can reasonably expect for a public park (which honestly says a lot), and there's a water fountain where you can easily refill your bottle before or after a run. Small detail, big win. It's about 1.3 miles from here to the Wells Trailhead, and the pavement is pretty evenly laid out, making it great for running. There are posted signs warning about coyotes and rattlesnakes, so definitely keep that in mind nature likes to remind you who was here first. I've only seen a pack of coyotes once in the late afternoon, closer toward the Pabco Trail where it's a bit more wooded. I ran into them from about 20 feet away my heart probably skipped a beat but they didn't even look in my direction. Apparently I wasn't interesting enough that day. Overall, this is my favorite park and trail to run. It's peaceful, well kept, and just wild enough to keep things interesting.

Nature she is surrounding us. We are basking in her glory. Come and play. This little park is a beautiful spot to rest and fill up that water bottle and use the restroom. The wetlands park is under you and all around you. Stay and play for a bit too. Can you ride the big road runner. Come up out of the egg. Use your immersion of your mind and be a kid. Walk out onto the outlook and see what nature is. This is not a casino. It's the real outdoors. The beauty is all around you . Enjoy !
