I must say, this DMV system seems a bit more organized than many states, like in California where I…read morespent most of my life. I was here in June 2025 to get my TN license and only needed a walk-in. The cops standing guard inside are very nice and will answer any questions you might have about your appointment. I however had to visit this place 3 times because I didn't have all the documents they needed. Found out that since I came from CA, I needed to have a printed MVR (or Driving Record), since CA is one of a few states that doesn't participate in the S2S records program, where state DMVs share their information with each other. Thus being said, they need to build a new profile for you in this system if you're not in it yet. Even though the online policies say an official certified copy of your driving record from your previous state's DMV, I was able to get the $2 unofficial one printed from CA DMV's website and TN accepted that without an issue. One part that kinda sucks is that they also need proof of citizenship so I had to bring my legal documents too... They also make you do a vision test where you look into a device that has numbers you read out loud. When I took this test they had me read one of the lines that looked to most blurry (my vision isn't that bad, it was something to do with the lenses and how I angled my viewing angle). The numbers are an interesting font too which can make it a little confusing to read. I honestly wish they just had the normal white boards with black letters (like at a doctors office) hanging up above the counters because those tests seem more accurate than looking through lenses that would be distorted.

Employee lost my documents. When asked about it, the only explanation she gave was "I think it may…read morehave been shredded" And speaking to others who have been there, this isn't a one time occurrence. Thankfully it was just an old bill proving my address but what if it had been an important document?

City of Chattanooga is so nice. I've been to Chattanooga many times and always loved the atmosphere…read moreand surrounding areas. Tennessee is definitely an inexpensive place to retire. I can't tell you how many relatives and friends moved to Tennessee. I've got lots of family in Chattanooga. Recently my aunt and uncle moved to Chattanooga because their children didn't want them to be alone in Georgia. They rented a very nice apartment for 18 month lease! The landlord even held it vacant for two months while they were in the process of moving. That's Tennessee folks for you. I'm posting photos of their home. You can see my uncle in one looking gruntled about getting in the photo. I love their space and the look of their housing community. I believe it's gated. My aunt and uncle are in their 80's but still drive. You have to have a car in Chattanooga. They do have a convenient parking space near the apartment. I'm recommending you retire to a nice size city like Chattanooga!

Chattanooga is a nice town! Growing up, my family visited the Chattanooga Choo Choo frequently and…read moredined at the "fancy" Choo Choo restaurant, which was a rare dining experience for us. At that time annually a train would depart from Huntsville and make round trips to Chattanooga for folks to see the fall foliage from the trains. My sweet Grandma always wanted to take that train ride, and I don't recall if she did or not; however, I sure hope she did. As others mentioned the Chattanooga Aquarium is a good one! It's fun to view the one location where you can see seven states atop Lookout Mountain! I still fondly recall the Kid Rock show I attended at McKenzie Arena in Chattannoga! There is a lot of history in Chattannoga! From Trail of Tears landmarks to prominent Civil War landmarks. Chatanooga truly does offer something for everyone!
