Hamilton is playing at the Orpheum as part of BroadwaySF (formerly SHN SF) extended through May 2020. As with most mega popular shows, I wait a few years for the national tour to come to California. Usually San Francisco gets them first, otherwise I wait a few more years for Sacramento to have even a short run (e.g. Avenue Q, Wicked, RENT, Phantom 25th, Les Miz, Book of Mormon, Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen). Sometimes the splurge is worth it to drive out to the city and pay extra for renovation fees of the "charming" tiny old theaters (Orpheum, Golden Gate, Curran) if planned right. Didn't bother with the $10 lottery on the Hamilton app, but what convinced me to go was a $75 deal on Goldstar (only $3 fees, so total $78 for a rear/side mezzanine seat). They had seats in the rear/side orchestra and balcony levels as well. Attended the 1:00PM matinee on 11/2/19 with fellow Sacramento Yelp Elite Judi M, a bigger fan than me! Orpheum is convenient to the Civic Center BART station, but we drove in and parked at the SOMA public garage which is easily walkable distance to the theater as well. No trouble printing eTickets from Goldstar, scanned in fine at the venue, seats pretty good. I had listened to the original Broadway cast recording many times before seeing the show live/in-person so understanding the lyrics wasn't as much of a problem. We did get the understudy for Alexander Hamilton, which wasn't the end of the world, but I do hear that the lead playing Hamilton is ah-mazing so I did get a little bit of FOMO. The guy who played Aaron Burr was my favorite. I was surprised how the supporting cast played multiple roles between first and second acts, and how little the set/costumes changed. How hard could it have been to give Eliza a white wedding dress to complete the scene? I have seen some pretty creative "transformation" costumes so it is not impossible these days. All the vocals were great, the "King" was hilarious, and I definitely cried at the end. Bring tissues! Attempted the women's restroom line during intermission but gave up and wished the other ladies all the luck, it was quite a cluster. Merchandise for sale including apparel, magnets, keychains, calendars. Donations to Broadway Cares got you a pen, drawstring backpack (Women in the Sequel -- Work!), or autographed poster. Hamilton is quite the hit -- I'm glad I could check it off my bucket list. Also, with ticket prices so low (weeknights as low as $45) I would see it again in a heartbeat -- although the thing to save up for these days is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Zero accountability! They probably just wanted my tickets for their friends.

BUYER BEWARE: Do NOT trust any online purchase through BroadwaySF.com or Orpheum Theater! I personally bought 5 tickets to Hamilton on my phone 2 months before the showing and planned an entire family trip around the purchase. Two weeks before the show I get an obscure email from BroadwaySF (Orpheum Theater) saying I was "in violation of ticketing polcies...(my) orders have been canceled...no future online orders will be possible." Through email they claimed I had used bots and/or created duplicate accounts for reselling purposes. I emailed back that it was a mistake, and they coldly replied "we will not be providing any additional details about our security procedures, or your canceled order." I called the box office and they confirmed that my account was blocked and only accessible by their fraud department. I asked to speak to a manager (Mike), and he said the only way to contact that department was by email. I told him that I had tried but hit the dead-end. I repeated how their computer was making a mistake because I bought the tickets myself and never attempted to resell them anywhere. I asked him to escalate this to head of that department, and he refused. I again emailed the fraud department explaining that computers make mistakes, and requested a conversation with me so they could rectify their error. They again responded coldly with the same vague response "we will not be providing any additional details about our security procedures, or your canceled order." I called back and was told that no one would attempt to contact that department on my behalf. So we had to reneg on our holiday gift to our children as well as cancel travel plans that took much time and effort because of the faulty computer assumptions made this company, and hideous customer resolution policy. For all I know, someone else wanted our great seats we secured months in advance, and someone high up in this organization simply makes unsubstantiated accusations so they can revoke our tickets and give them to their friends. The entire situation stinks and this organization cannot be trusted!!! If you don't have tickets in hand, I wouldn't make any solid plans.

Words cannot express how awesome this musical show was. The hype is real! I thought maybe the show was going to be okay but it was crazy fun! Wish it lasted longer because time flew and before you know it the fun is over. If only history class was like this in high school I would of paid more attention haha !

Absolutely amazing! Powerful voices. Beautifully done. I was in awe at the performances by the cast and I was enlightened as to the history of how things came to be in our country. This was well worth the ticket prices. I'd see this one again, for sure!

    Just beautiful!

We really enjoyed the show tonight. Even my 10 year old did not mind staying up so late and loved the performance. Dancing, singing, and acting were phenomenal. Our favorite character was the KING. The actor is just amazing! FIRST ROW: we were seated in the first row of the orchestra, right next to the stage. I would NOT recommend it. You can see just half body of the actors most of the time. PARKING: We parked on 79 8th St at Trinity Parking. It is so close, the lot is light and bright. Also, if you show the tickets to Orpheum, the price was only $15. The staff was so sweet, kind, and polite. Made our experience very special.

I don't frequent... ok, let me start over, I've never been to any musicals or broadway shows so this was my first. I didn't come in with any expectations simply because I had no clue what to expect, besides from what friends have told me. Pay attention because as soon as it starts, the singing, rhyming/rapping, the scenes, characters, etc are all moving really quick. The cast themselves are absolutely talented and it's mind blowing how good they sound live!!! Who knew this was going to be a fun and entertaining way to learn a little bit about US History?! hahaha Beer is about $16 a can :X but you get it in a plastic sippy cup. Other helpful details; Transportation! Its right off of the Civic Center Bart station. There's also a large public parking garage just located a block away on Mission St.

Five Star. Every seat is great! You need to go if you can. Reasonably priced tickets for an awesome musical. Book, music , and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda!

Holy smokes my second time and love the story, the music, sets, everything. It was a great mom daughter date. My daughter grew up in musical theater and so every chance we get, we go. She always blasts the music afterward on the drive home. Not for Hamilton however. Harder and less recognizing music I suppose. I have loaded this onto my phone and listen often. The cast did a great job. The San Antonio cast was slightly better. I don't know what is was - just in totality I preferred it.

I finally had the pleasure of experiencing Hamilton. It was everything everyone has said it is . Orchestra ,Row W aisle seats. The view was perfect! The energy and quality of performance was phenomenal. I can't say enough wonderful things about the production. No photos allowed during performance. Intermission was about 20 minutes. Mad dash to the Bar and refreshments. The total for two drinks (one was a double) in souvenir to go cups.. the only cups permitted in the auditorium $65 !!! I had an old fashioned that could've started a small fire My sister had the double Rose..we promptly return to our seats . A little to promptly as we had to get up to allow our row mates entry back to their seats. A very disturbing thing happened just as we were wrapping up intermission. The man/sociopath seated directly in front of me.. never clapped.. laughed , moved to the music proceeded to drag what appeared to be a 7 or 8 yo boy I mean drag! The child could not gain his footing . Dragged by the arm so violently I was sure the child's arm was dislocated. it was criminal.. I asked the usher where they went . I just wanted to make sure the boy was ok. , he said they left the theater. I was a tad preoccupied after witnessing such violent behavior. What is wrong with people?!?! I couldn't finish my too strong old fashioned..as I tried to exit the theater with my unfinished drink in approved souvenir cup I was politely stopped by the usher and advised I could not leave with an alcoholic beverage ( I guess I've spent too much time in the Big Easy) it was horrible so I had no problem pouring more than 3/4 of the drink in the garbage receptacle. Problem wasting what I figured to be 25 bucks away. I hope that child is ok. That was quite unsettling I was trying to figure was the man angry because the boy waited until intermission was over to express he had to go to the bathroom. I mean there is absolutely no excuse for the behavior. I'm just wondering what would cause such a violent public display. Deep sigh.i may have to see the show again . Thanks overly aggressive strange nan.

If I had one word to describe my experience here it would be ... AWESOME !!! I would highly recommended taking in "Hamilton" if you're in San Fran. The cast is super-talented with the singing and dancing .. world class. My special congratulations to Lily Ling ... the music director. She is so good that she deserves a standing ovation.

This is about the fifth time I have seen the play and it was very similar to my previous views with some very minor differences. The venue is fantastic. Originally called the Pantene's Theatre opening in 1926 it has many of the classic furnishings and feel such a historic theatre should have (which we enjoy)! It seats just over 2,000 people so it's not overly large or too small either. The stage may have been slightly smaller than some of the other venues we saw Phantom at but it did not change the show much. Other notable shows which have appeared here are Wicked, The Greatfull Dead, and the Conan O'Brian Late night show. I would recommend getting the priority pass to get inside quickly which also gets you priority access to food and drinks. You can order food and have it delivered to your seat as well which is extremely nice! If you are using Uber or Lift, drop off and pickup is along side the venue as they are not permitted to do this in front of the theatre. Highly recommended the venue and look forward to coming back!

Demetri was able to engage with the audience in ways that aren't typically possible in a larger venue (like the Masonic). Note that the venue can be hard to find, especially if the event was advertised as being at the "Palace of Fine Arts." The Theater is around the corner, and there are very limited signs. Like many reviewers, we spent time wandering around trying to find the entrance. It is on the west side of the venue, not near the famous dome. If you're driving/Ubering, be sure to enter the destination as the Theater, and not just the Palace of Fine Arts, as the entrance are on opposite sides of the property.
