My friend treated me and my daughter to see Dracula Ballet here and it was amazing! This old venue near Civic Center is so ornate and unique. People working here were friendly helpful and polite. You could smell the popcorn inside with well-dressed people buying wine at the concession stands, which can be brought inside while sitting on the red velvet seats. On the mezzanine level, two tall guys sat in front of me, blocking the view of center stage. At intermission, I asked the couple in front of me to switch seats so I could see a bit better. However, I noticed the girl in front then couldn't see, because there was a tall bald guy in front of her! Short people should always get the front rows, lol! Well, the music could be heard by everyone and from what I could see, the ballet was striking as it was beautiful. read more

We had a fabulous night at the Orpheum Theatre, the first time we had ever been there! We love to see the Phantom of the Opera and it did not disappoint! This is about the fifth time I have seen the play and it was very similar to my previous views with some very minor differences. The venue is fantastic. Originally called the Pantene's Theatre opening in 1926 it has many of the classic furnishings and feel such a historic theatre should have (which we enjoy)! It seats just over 2,000 people so it's not overly large or too small either. The stage may have been slightly smaller than some of the other venues we saw Phantom at but it did not change the show much. Other notable shows which have appeared here are Wicked, The Greatfull Dead, and the Conan O'Brian Late night show. I would recommend getting the priority pass to get inside quickly which also gets you priority access to food and drinks. You can order food and have it delivered to your seat as well which is extremely nice! If you are using Uber or Lift, drop off and pickup is along side the venue as they are not permitted to do this in front of the theatre. Highly recommended the venue and look forward to coming back! read more

I went to see the Dracula Ballet . It's a great building haven't been in here forever since Dr Zhivago before the world now a happier time. The production was wonderful the costumes were fabulous. The walk up to the balcony was really no big deal. Beautiful everything in this building it's a real treasure. They offer snacks and drinks you may purchase in the different sets of stairs or have it brought directly to your seat if you wish . No photography is allowed during the performance due to copyright and other rules but it was really a lovely treat. The ushers were quite helpful and very professional. For a limited engagement one week run it was pretty much a full orchestra when I went on Tuesday night after the 3 day holiday Fourth of July weekend. Fantastic bring Dracula from the movies live on stage was cool and fun and I never knew ballet could be fun and entertaining and did provide laughter and ooohhs and ahhhs. Came here to watch beauty and the beast. Beautiful historic theater and easy access via civic center Bart , although we drove this time. We got our tickets via stub hub and were able to use our csr credit. They also occasionally have last minute specials- as I know some ppl were able to score some $10 tickets. First time at this theater and it was a great first visit. The theater is easy to find and the check in process is quick and easy! My husband and I chose to take the BART in which was nice to not have to worry about parking. The civic center station is the closest one to BART. You have to go through a quick bag check which really just entails a flashlight being shone inside your bag and a metal detector. Then you get your tickets scanned and BAM! You're in! They have ushers everywhere helping you find the right spot and your seats. There are men's and women's restrooms on all floors. There's also a bar including light snacks in each floor as well. The show started soon after 1:00 PM and it was absolutely amazing! Would definitely return to see another show. read more

Got a chance to see Hell's Kitchen and it was absolutely beautiful! The venue was incredible, you know, I rarely see musicals and honestly I think that needs to change this year. First of all this place is beautiful and honestly there wasn't a bad seat in the house. Staff was great and directed folks in a kind and courteous way. Scored $40 rush tickets on TodayTix app for opening night of, Hells Kitchen. It was fairly easy to grab as minutes later they were still available. It was our first time sitting in lodge and we got first row. We were on the far side, so a bit of the view was obscured. I personally did have trouble hearing the words from the actors and it may be due to the music being louder than the vocals or it's from the seats. Nonetheless it was a great price and a good show. read more

I think the Orpheum theater is one of my favorites to watch any play. It's always clean and the staff is very friendly. The Orpheum theater is right by the Tenderloin in SF, so location-wise it's not the greatest. BAR/LOUNGE: Upon entering there's a Bar/Lounge to the left of the entrance, and we hung out here for a while. There are comfy seats and couches, but after a while it got very crowded. The prices for drinks and snacks were outrageous. $20 for a glass of mediocre red wine. STAFF: Most were helpful, but the lady at the top of the stairs to the mezzanine was not in a great mood. Instead of directing people to the right entry, she made a point to telling us we came up the wrong stairs in an admonishing tone. SEATS: We were seated in the mezzanine, and the seats are tight. There is no leg room even for a medium size person. I also found it kinda stuffy. If you have a tall person in front of you, your view will be obstructed because there isn't enough of an incline between the rows. Overall, it's not the worst and not the best. I thought the sound was good, and everything else was average. read more

The Orpheum gets 4 stars from me because you get to experience a little bit of Broadway in our city by the bay due to the touring Broadway shows that play there. Just saw "Moulin Rouge" and it was fantastic. The stage itself is not as great as something you would see in New York or Las Vegas, but it is fine. One drawback is that the rows are pretty close together. That makes for a bit of a challenge sometimes when someone has to pass through. It also makes a difference in terms of viewing if the person sitting in front of you is tall. read more

Moulin Rouge! Is easily one of my top favorite musicals, and seeing it live was nothing short of breathtaking. The production was magnificent. The second the show began, everything else around me disappeared. My mind was completely locked onto the stage. Second time coming to see a musical. The stage area is pretty nice. The second time I was towards the back on the side but I still had no trouble seeing the stage. The inside is pretty navigable and the staff give instructions to find your seat. I got told off by an employee for using my phone during the show but he was still nice about it. Ticket checking and bag search going in was smooth The railing on the top seating area is very low though so it feels a bit dangerous. The restrooms are clean and I didn't have to wait in any lines. The lights and effects for the musical are cool. Seats are a little cramped but guess it's worth it for cheaper tickets. Still I had almost no space to place my bag and also feet. read more

I went to a Broadway show at the Orpheum Theatre. We got great seats in the orchestra section near the center and the acoustics were clear and I could almost make out the performers' faces. It wasn't a sold out show so after the intermission many people ended up moving closer and changing seats. Drinks are overpriced like most venues. They let you buy bottles of wine to bring in with you but keep in mind there's nowhere to put it as the rows are very cramped. It made me feel a little nervous as it wouldn't be easy to immediately exit in case of any emergencies. The seats are small, rows narrow, and it's almost impossible to get in and out of your row once others are seated. Sometimes people will get up for you and sometimes they won't. I wish it was more spacious and accessible for more sizes. There's a paid parking lot near here but we came early and got free street parking about a block or two away. It's also right next to the Civic Center Bart station! read more

I've been to the Orpheum several times, and it's always a beautiful, nostalgic venue. This time I came to see & Juliet, a modern take on what would happen if Juliet didn't die and instead chose to live her own life. Coming out of a divorce, that theme resonated deeply. It felt fun, empowering, and meaningful in a way I didn't expect. My seats were Orchestra Row P, Seats 20 and 21. The view was close enough to clearly see the stage, but as someone who's 5 feet tall, I found myself having to lean around taller guests in front of me. If you're shorter, I'd recommend sitting a few rows closer, like M or N, where the seating dips down slightly. You're more likely to get a clear line of sight. The show itself was filled with familiar pop songs that made the energy feel more like a concert than a traditional musical. By the final number, people were standing, singing, and dancing along. The cast was incredibly talented, and while the set design wasn't as intricate as larger productions like Wicked, the performance and overall message were strong. It's a great show for women, young girls, or anyone who appreciates an inclusive, uplifting take on a classic story. read more

I have seen several shows at the Orpheum Theatre and recently saw Hamilton. I've been meaning to write this review and hopefully my experience can help you as well. This review is strictly about the theater and not about the show. First off, the staff is very nice and very helpful with answering questions. I was able to pick up my tickets at the box office effortlessly and then go have dinner nearby. The best parking is at the Civic Center which is a short walk away from the theater. If you park there for several hours, it will the $29 max which is a little expensive but what else can I do. I arrived back to the show about 15 minutes before the show started and was able to get in easily after security and the ticket checks. I went to the bathroom and staff directed me to my seat with no problem. So, a lot of the shows at the Orpheum Theater are 2 hours or more and those seats are tiny and very uncomfortable. I am a short guy but there is absolutely no leg room and I can only imagine the uncomfortable feeling that taller people would have sitting in those seats. Also, if you're short person and there's a tall person sitting in front of you, good luck because they might be blocking your view. When intermission came around, there was no mention of how long intermission would be. The lines for the bathroom are incredibly long. I had to pee very badly and the lines for both men and women barely moved. By the time I got back, the show had already started, so I missed a few minutes and absolutely heard no announcement that the show was starting again. It's very hard to exit the theater especially if you're sitting near the front. I would be terrified if there was some kind of emergency and it would be hard to exit the theater. Hopefully the owners of the Orpheum Theater can consider adding more bathrooms, swapping out the dated seats to more comfortable seats and also making more announcements about intermission and anything else that's important. When the audience is paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to watch a show here, it should be an amazing experience but the theater is a big letdown. read more

We went to see notebook musical the production was hortible. Low budget the main girl's voice was really bad screaming if you haven't seen the movie you wouldn't figure out the story which was about true love between different class of society and of course sad ending. They portrayed different race which was unnecessary cuz the story wasn't about that. My husband left at intermission he said i rather walk around. So we spent 500 for two tickets we bought two glass of wine and a cheese/cracker package(very little) 100 so for $600 Not Worthed at all. The funny part is they had standing ovation at the end like all musicals . They had great posters made great designs. So we decided for a while we wouldn't go to orpheum. Bad experience. read more
