Make sure you know the way or travel here by day. The little cottages are situated in an isolated spot near the famous National Parks. Just down the road is Mount Field. The accommodation is very comfortable. The King room has a little kitchenette with everything for cooking a meal. Then there is an enclosed verandah area that lets the afternoon breeze flow through. Walk around the property of a night or morning and enjoy looking and smelling all the beautiful flowers and fruits. A meal can be ordered if you don't feel like cooking. There is a choice of two mains and maybe something can be organised for the vegetarian or the vegan. The host is extremely friendly and helpful. She knows the area very well and gave good directions about travelling in the area. read more

Located on a 36 acre property in the magnificent Derwent Valley, Tasmania. 1 hour drive from Hobart and 10 minutes drive to the fabulous Mount Field National Park. Travelling between Strahan and Hobart? Stay at Hamlet Downs for a well earned break before proceeding. Don't book for just 1 night - allow at least 2 days to see this fantastic region. Hamlet Downs has modern private suites each with its own separate entrance, lounge/dining area and bathroom. Some have a kitchen. We also cater for groups up to 10 persons. . The property features beautiful gardens and a 1 km walking track past the orchard, historic hop sheds and around the ponds specially designed to view the wildlife. We offer the option of accommodation only, Bed and Breakfast or for the discerning traveller, the complete Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. Meals are served in the privacy of your own accommodation with fresh ingredients from our property such as free range eggs and seasonal fruits & vegetables*. History

Established in 1985.

Property was an old hop farm which stopped in the early 1970's. It then had berries and finally became accommodation in the early 1980's.

You know a mechanic's going to be good when it's in a literal garage, right?…read more I've driven past this place a bunch of times but had my car serviced elsewhere because an actual literal garage was a bit intimidating to me. Just give me a chain store with low prices. Except nah, because you have to support the local little guys... so when my car started making weird noises every time I drove it, I figured the closer the better and gave G. Christian a call. Firstly, I described the sounds my car was making and what it was doing, and he asked me to drop it off so he could check it out. No cost to me. I went to pick it up a couple of hours later, and he handed me an A4 sheet of handwriting and price breakdowns of things he thought my car could do with. I'd told him I wasn't flush with cash, so he prioritised it for me. The weird noise was my clutch slipping and it needed a full replacement STAT, which isn't cheap... but after checking out his costings with a few people, it turned out that G. Christian's pricing was super reasonable. Based on that first experience, I'm actually looking forward to keeping my car in shape with these guys, and I know what to budget for over the next few months. I'll happily give them a few extra dollars to give my car a proper service and know it's in good hands.
